    Yeah pretty much.

Well if you are going to take it that far, then I'll go one more step and say that with Fiji, you'll be able to use any combination or number of tuners you want and they'll all work the same. So no more ATSC/analog difference.

I can dream about having a box with 2 DirecTV, 2 ATSC, and a CableCARD tuners, and no matter which source, NBC will always be on channel 8!

    Someone pinch me.

How good can it be, if it isn't HD?

    Actually,

I'd like just for the tuner cards for Dish to come out, which was rumored to come out the same time as the Direc TV tuners.  While I will use my FIOS/Cablecard setup for the entire house, it wouldn't be bad to get DISH's $29.99 all HD plan and just it on one extra PC :)

No kidding. I, for one, will be building a brand new HTPC when this comes out if this is truly the case. I really cannot wait until this comes out, I am half-considering pulling the trigger on the Hauppauge HD-PVR and SageTV. But I want NFL Sunday Ticket!

The Hauppauge is nice for a one Media Center solution.  But I have extenders throughout the house that I use to watch TV.  And renting 3 Setop Boxes, and then buying 3 Hauppage's is too $.

To me, the cablecard setup works great for the wife and kids.  I'd just like the Dish $30 setup on the downstairs PC to provide extra tuners, and more HD :)

Out of all the forums I have been reading over the last few months, I noticed nobody asked Dave when this thing was coming.  I emailed and got this response:

"Thanks for taking the time to write us. I have forwarded your comments on to DIRECTV Management for review.

Based on your request, I found that HDPC-20 will be available late 2008. Any proposed new equipment or enhancements to current equipment are subject to change until a formal announcement is made, so I don't have any more information that I can share with you right now. I have, however, forwarded your email on to our management so that they can have a record of your request."

I wonder if they just sent it out or do they have to install it.

Sweet, that's awesome they at least gave a time slot, now if only we knew if it would be OEM only or how that would work... but at least a generic timeslot is here.

and its great that its in 2008 and not early 2009, would hate to have a giant paperweight under my TV until an option came along.

I would like to know for sure if it will be OEM only too. The word is, floating around is that it wont need a OEM PC. I think it would be a failure if it was OEM only, as only people with cable card setups could use it and it would tick off more people than anything else.

Directv is trying to get more people to sign up, why would they limit people from getting their service with out having buy a $1000-2500 piece of gear. It would be a dumb move for them.

Just making sure everybody subscribing to this thread saw this post:

    http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/08/06/hands-on-with-the-vista-media-center-tv-pack/

Rumor is, Fiji will not have DirecTV support and that it has been pushed to Windows 7 or another Vista Media Center update later on.

    Sh*t!
