Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

Meatrack,

Glad the app is increasing the WAF :-P.

The information about "it only searched for a show called Season 1" is crucial. That means that it didn't parse the information correctly or the folder structure is now what it expected. You really shouldn't need the ID in the 10' UI because the proper folder name was not being picked up.

Tell me precisely what is the full path to the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia folder. What folders are beneath that folder?

meatrack:

Ok, I see it now. I tried using it on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and it only searched for a show called "Season 1" instead of the actual title of the show. Obviously it didn't find anything.

As for new things you could add...what about pumping up the find series UI more. If it can't find a series maybe you could tell the app exactly what series is in a specific folder. For example, I couldn't get it to find the aforementioned show so I had to add in the ID to the XML. If I could just tell the app which show I'm looking for by using the ID or something similar in the 10' UI that would be great.

After reading this over I'm not sure that I explained that very well....

I also wanted to say that this app is amazing and it has really made my wife love the media center computer! I owe you a beer for that alone.

Meatrack,

Thanks, I'll recreate that exact file/ folder structure on my PC and see what it does.

Senn, I got the same problem as you w/ regards to synopsis being downloaded but no images. I got this w/ my Heroes series. I thought it was a bug somewhere but it turns out, it was just taking a very LONG time to download all the fanart images.

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

hmm..so I created a folder called "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia", created a sub folder called "Season 1", then added an avi into season 1 called "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia - 01x01.avi".

Went into the app and browsed into my 'videos' folder and it shows all contents including the new series folder above then downloaded metadata for it. As before w/ Senn, it took abit of time to grab all the images but I, at least, got the synopsis and other metadata.

Jack,

I just tried to add another show and it's not finding this one either...did you possibly change something in the newest verion? I'm having trouble adding new shows now. New seasons aren't a problem though.

guys, you're killing me here. You've got to tell me which shows it's not finding..I am not a mindreader :-/...do you not get any metadata at all or just no images? What's in the series folder's .metadata subfolder? a *.folder.xml or a *.series.xml?

Also, in Add/Remove Programs, how many times is 'video library' listed?

UPDATE: I am going through all of my regex unit tests and I think there's a bug w/ recognizing "Dexter S01E01.avi" format. i.e. it's not recognizing w/ the space in between. Still unit-testing.

If this is causing the identification to fail for your shows then I'll post a build here in the next hour (hmm...gotta check if 'Skins are playing at 1PM...:-))

UPDATE 2: v 1.13 uploaded w/ some corrected regex. Meatrack, for all series not recognized, delete the *.folder.xml if it exists, uninstall old ver, install new ver, and try again.

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

I think I was just unlucky. I tried a third series and had no problems. I found out thetvdb.com was having some serious lag issues - so maybe that was it. Oddly enough the third series I tested was Dexter and it was no problem, lol.

Thanks for all the hard work man. Are you still thinking about taking this open source? If not I would really like to contribute something beyond my "bug reports" that usually are caused by my own user error;)

I was able to get this program up and running on Vista x64. It downloaded all of the images and info. However it did not work on the extender, an Xbox 360. Any thoughts?

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

Hi,

I've been trying to install this program under Vista (32bit) but have had no luck. When I install it it seems to install fine but creates no files under C:\ProgramData\VideoLibrary\

Edit: Nevermind. For some reason VMC was watching a folder on my NAS which doesn't exist anymore.

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

Dave, you shouldn't need .NET 3.5 SP1 since this is all just .NET 2.0 code.

Do you have a tuner in your VMC?

In any case, what's happening is that., when the plug-in is run the first time after installation, it looks for default folders to use to create a VideoLibrary.dll.config file. Most like like one of those folders is no longer valid. Off the top of my head, it's looking at all of your recorded tv watched folders, and all the folders dvd library uses.

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

Yep got it sorted as above. I thought I should have seen the config file after the install so I could delete the problem folder.

Ta for the great app.

Re: video library app for viewing videos/movies and tv episodes with metadata

Alright, so I managed to get metadata for all of my videos, although it still crashes after downloading info for 3 - 5 of my videos. I add new shows to my collection a few at a time, so after it crashes I just re-open the program and let it download more info until it finishes (or crashes again, rinse/repeat). Nothing is added to the VideoLibrary.log as a result of these crashes.

The only other problem I'm having is after playing about three or four videos, I start experiencing weird behaviors. "Play Random" takes longer and longer to load a video, until it eventually stops working altogether. I notice memory usage increases, from about 90MB after playing to first video to as much as 200MB after playing more than 5 or so. Eventually Media Center crashes. Not sure if that is the result of this plugin or not, since MCE's resource usage is so random and irratic anyway. But I don't experience this when playing the same files through MCE's video library interface.

FYI - here is my VideoLibrary.config file...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<configuration>
<appSettings>
<add key="ArchivedTVExpression" value="(?:\w*)\\(?<seriesname>.+?)\s-\s(?<seasonnumber>\d{1,1})(?<episodenumber>\d{1,2})\s-\s(?<episodename>.+?)\.(?<extension>[mp4|avi|mpg])" />
<add key="CombineDuplicateFolders" value="true" />
<add key="WatchedFolders" value="D:\video" />
</appSettings>
</configuration>

And all of my files/folders look like this:

D:\Video\Series Name\Season #\Series Name - 101 - Episode Name.mp4
