    Re: MyTray / FireSTB Updates

    Rustyp -

I have the same STB (Motorola DCT-6412) and I am running XP Home on my Laptop.  I do not know why YourMomma said that this could not be done.  Playing recorded material from the DVR WILL output over firewire.  I guess that Comcast is not 5C compliant.

To get it working get the following files (readily available from many websites)
    1) meistb.inf
    2) meistrm.sys
    3) meistb.sys
    4) mstapeo.sys

When attaching, use the firewire port on the right (that is if you are looking at the back of the unit), do not use the one on the left.

Attach your laptop to your STB with your firewire cable, It will pick up a new device, and you will be questioned first to set up an "unknown device", cancel this.  Then it will pick up another new device, with this one, select to find your own driver, and point it towards where the 4 files mentioned above have been downloaded.  The next new device, do the same, pointing towards the 4 files.

Next, look in your Device Manager, in the Other devices tab, there should be an "Unknown device", disable this.  Next, if you look in the Imaging tab, there should be two entry's one saying "Motorola AV/C Panel Device (DCT-6412)" and one saying "Motorola Tuner AV/C Device (DCT-6412)"

As long as these are okay,  your XP Home now recognizes and can use the STB.

If you want to record, just use CapDVHS (also readily available on many websites).

Start your DVR Recording off the STB box and CapDVHS will record your program.

    Really, really Easy...

My apologies.  This was a complete brain fart.  I was still thinking about directly accessing the HD in the STB.

As to Comcast.  There have been more reports about stuttering Video recorded via FIRESTB.  It would seem that they're making system changes.  If you're using FIRESTB to record from your DVR you may luck out and get good recordings.

    Re: Help Please

I have a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD and I can't get it to work

My box sees both the Scientific atlanta AVC/Panel and the Scientific Atlanta AVC Tuner and 2 unknown devices.

MyTray Shows no drop down boxes for tuners, does not record, and doesn't change channel from mce.

I can however change channels via command line using channel -v 2 561 or any other channel.

I can also record using Windows movie maker.

Below are is the information from Channel -v and Tuner.txt

    Re: Help Please

Yes, sorta correct on LiveTV.  You can't watch true "LiveTV" over firewire.  But you can start recording something and then a second later start watching it out of Recorded TV.

    Re: MyTray / FireSTB Updates

The Motorola DCT3412 is supported as well as several other Moto boxes.  Give it a shot.  If not, then follow the instructions in the sectioon of the readme titled:
Can I use this to control X STB?

Put the output in a file attachment to a post here and I'll get it to Tim.

Ryan, please be sure to post your results.  There have been quite a few of us with SA3250HD STB's on Comcast's systems where FireSTB  has quit working.  I'd be interested if this is an issue with the 3250, Comcast, or how Comcast has updated/config'd the 3250.

    Thanks

Haven't gotten the box yet.  we're about to trade in a few 6200's for a DCT-3400.  When we get it set up, i'll let you know.

    Re: MyTray / FireSTB Updates

    Help Please.

I installed firestb for the first time over the weekend and can not get it to work.  I have a DCT-6200 and a MCE2005 single tuner system with all the current updates.  The package installs fine...I can change channels via firewire while watching live TV.  The Mytray even shows the tuner and the program on the tuner.

The problem is when a scheduled show is set to record the channel does not change and there is no recording via firewire.  I applied the MS firewire Patch for SP2 and disabled windows firewall for the firewire connections but no luck.  In MyTray - the Firewire/USB recordings is check and I have do nothing with MCE recordings selected.  The tuner parameter is properly set.

    Any suggestions?

    Re: MyTray / FireSTB Updates

I have been using the firestb program for a while with my comcast dvr box. Recently, I moved and switched to directv. Obviously, I can't use this program to record hd from my new directv stb but I would like to use it to change the channels. The problem is that the new diretcv stbs have usb ports instead of serial. However, mythtv people have already solved this using a serial to usb adapter and then using a perl script to change the channels. I have used this script from the command line of my mce box to change the channels on my ditrectv h20 stb. The problem I'm having is that I can't get the firestb program to control the script externally. I followed the instructions by adding the ChannelChange0 and ChannelChange2 strings to the registry with "c:\per\bin\perl.exe c:\perl\directv2.pl %C" as the values, but nothing happens. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can get this to work?

    MyTray / FireSTB Updates

I have searched the messages but can't find a solution to my issue.

I can record HD just fine but when I record from SD channels I get no audio.

I have one Motorola STB (Comcast) and a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 500 MCE. From the STB to my PC I am running the firewire cable and an S-Video cable. The S-Video is plugged into the WinTV card. I have nothing else plugged into the WinTV card.

I just installed the lastest version of Tim's software and the situation remains the same as it did with the "old" version. I'm sure that I'm missing some step somewhere.

    Re: MyTray / FireSTB Updates

S video only transfers video, not sound, you need to run audio cables from the STB to your pc
