    First thing I tried, doesn't work :(

    But I changed it forward instead, because if it was a simple check like "valid xx days from file date", then setting it back wouldn't help, only make it expire earlier.

    Yes of course forward :P... sorry

    Tried de-assembeling the dll, it has a reference to this date: Feb  5 2007 16:36:39, but I guess it's nothing..

    I also noticed on file info in PE Explorer it says: "Loader Flags - Obsolete" could that be it?

    Edit:

    It also does this call to winmm.dll :

    function timeGetTime: DWORD; stdcall; external 'winmm.dll' name 'timeGetTime' index 156;

    and this to kernel32.dll :

    procedure GetSystemTimeAsFileTime(var lpSystemTimeAsFileTime: TFileTime); stdcall; external 'kernel32.dll' name 'GetSystemTimeAsFileTime' index 375;

    But I guess changing these would make the dll fail!?!?

    I'm about to go out for the day but have a look at this line:

    0042EED0 7505 jnz L0042EEE4

    I think if "75" is change to "74" then it will become a "jz". This may change the behaviour so that it will work after the normal switchoff date but not before.

    Don't have time to do it myself now but might be worth someone having a go at.

    one idea (don't know if it would work) is to change those calls to another dll.

    One you would have to write containing the same function names, however - they would return something that suits us better

    Already tried that, it didn't work. Also changed other jumps in that section, one at a time.
    Thought that routine was the one checking the date, and maybe it is but no luck.
    Could it be that the dll is signed so it's no use tamper with it?
    Tried recalculate the checksum after my change, but didn't help either.

    Re: TV Pack 2008 Beta MSDTVVDEC.DLL.

    You know a danish fellow claims he is using the beta dll and powerdvd codecs in clsid and clsid2 for both audio and video.

    And he is able to watch TV2SportHD, which is h.264...

    Am going to test it for my self this evening...

    So it seems like the beta dll, does not have a timebomb

    Can anyone confirm this?

    Re: TV Pack 2008 Beta MSDTVVDEC.DLL.

    Can´t get the bloody, floppy dtv drivers to scan those HD channels.

    Really hoping that digital everywhere, finds a solution for this. Have asked them nicely, to look into, why those channels are missing, when scanning..

    Yesterday TV2SportHD magically appeared, because they rearranged some channels. When I came to test last evening, it was gone again... arrgh..

    Re: TV Pack 2008 Beta MSDTVVDEC.DLL.

    I don't have unencrypted H.264 channels ATM, could someone record minute or so HD channel  (with beta decored by switching the date back) and upload it into rapidshare?

    I would like to try something if it works.

    Re: TV Pack 2008 Beta MSDTVVDEC.DLL.

    I tried installing Power DVD 8 (trial version) and updating my registry settings to match those linked to on recordere.dk:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Media Center \ Decoder]
    "PreferredMPEG2AudioDecoderCLSID"="{93509808-E912-46EF-BB97- 0BFFE8655E60}" "PreferredMPEG2AudioDecoderCLSID" = "(93509808-E912-46EF-BB97-0BFFE8655E60)"
    "PreferredMPEG2VideoDecoderCLSID"="{C16541FF-49ED-4DEA-9126- 862F57722E31}" "PreferredMPEG2VideoDecoderCLSID" = "(C16541FF-49ED-4DEA-9126-862F57722E31)"
    "PreferredMPEG2VideoDecoderCLSID2"="{C16541FF-49ED-4DEA-9126 -862F57722E31}" "PreferredMPEG2VideoDecoderCLSID2" = "(C16541FF-49ED-4DEA-9126-862F57722E31)"
    "PreferredMPEG2AudioDecoderCLSID2"="{93509808-E912-46EF-BB97 -0BFFE8655E60}" "PreferredMPEG2AudioDecoderCLSID2" = "(93509808-E912-46EF-BB97-0BFFE8655E60)"

    I did not try on my main HTPC but on a PC without any tuners but copied a previously recorded BBC HD show onto it to try.

    I still got the "Decoder Error" message. So no luck with this method so far. The screenshot they posted there is intriguing so I wonder if there is something else to it.

    I really wish MS would just give us the H.264 decoder... would make many of us very happy!

    I don´t think the trial version will do h.264

    I'm not going to buy it until I know it works.  Anyone have a copy already they can test this on then?

    I have powerdvd 7.3 ultra that does h264 - I can try later today unless it needs to be version 8.

    Re: TV Pack 2008 Beta MSDTVVDEC.DLL.

    ok more info -

    powerdvd7.3 ultra was no good when put in clsid or clsid2

    i have now upgraded to version 8 ultra (couldn't resist)

    when both clsid and clsid2 are set as powerdvd and i use the beta dll file all i get is digital audio service for bbchd

    when i use the rtm dll file and have microsoft dvd/dtv codec for clsid and set clsid2 as powerdvd i get bbchd with a stuttering picture, but i get digital audio service for every other channel - so h.264 is possible with the final msdtvvdec.dll file !

    when both clsid and clsid2 are set to powerdvd i get "files needed to display video are not installed.........." when viewing sd and digital audio service for bbchd!

    if i use the cyberlink audio codec for both clsid and clsid2 i get bbchd picture but no sound and all sd channels with sound but no video.

    i'm gonna spend a few hours doing all possible combinations of ms/ac3filter/powerdvd audio codecs as well as all video codecs to see if i find a magic combo.

    Good luck, that sounds like good progress! Are you using 32 or 64bit version of Vista?

    Re: TV Pack 2008 Beta MSDTVVDEC.DLL.

    This is weird. The findings so far make us think that the DLL has no time bomb inside and that microsoft's DLL has at least some H.264 code inside. That got me thinking and I was wondering whether the time bomb could be in Media Center itself. Media Center could refuse to use it's own DLL's guid past the expiration time.

    Here's a suggestion: Try creating a new GUID in the registry that points to microsoft's DLL. Media Center could be fooled by an unknown GUID and start using microsoft's DLL.
