Re: Music Browser plugin [New version] -- Browse your music by folder

    benster:
This looks awesome - thanks so much as I've been trying to get a solution for this for a while now.  I have a huge music collection and the standard MC navigation doesn't work well.

I have it working well when running MC through Vista but when I connect via my Xbox 360 no files are found.  My main music folder is mapped from another computer so I thought that it could be a permissions problem.  However, when I changed the config back to just MyMusic it still doesn't show any files through the Xbox 360 even though they show up when I run MC through Vista.  I suppose that it still could be permissions but I don't know enough about MC to say.  Do you have any insight there?  What user is the MC running under that I could add to gain access to the files?  I've added Read+ access to Everyone.

If I can get this working this will be the perfect media solution for me.  I would be eternally grateful for any help that anyone could provide.  Thank you so very much in advance.

Music Browser works fine on the Linksys extender.  Just place a shortcut using UNC (i.e. not a mapped drive) in your shared music folder.

GOT IT.  It didn't like a mapped drive no matter what permissions I put on it...  but it works with UNC pathing.  So I am VERY happy - thank you, thank you, thank you for this - you sincerely made my week :)

Re: Music Browser plugin v1.2.4 -- Browse your music by folder

Is it possible to change the folder icon to something with a more vmc-look?.

    For example:

    or:

Re: Music Browser plugin v1.3 -- Browse your music by folder

Original version wasn't working for me, so I waited.  Tried 1.3 and it's working just great except....

All of my music is on a drive on another computer on the network, but in the "settings" of the program, it doesn't appear to allow me to add it.  Any workarounds?  Or am I just missing it.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

Re: Music Browser plugin v1.3 -- Browse your music by folder

    Tip -

How would I do that?  It's a drive on another computer in the house.  I access it on the MCE computer by going to "Network" and then drilling down...

    Thanks,
    Shawn

I use this application with music on a network drive.  Just place a shortcut (using UNC) to your network music folder in the shared music folder on your C drive.

Re: Music Browser plugin v1.3 -- Browse your music by folder

Sorry Danno - I'm going to need a little more explanation than that.  Sounds easy enough, but I have no idea where to start.  UNC?

I tried making a shortcut of the "music folder" on my other PC on root of the c drive, but it wouldn't let me, using the regular "create shortcut" dialog.  It said it had to be placed on the desktop.  Still, the MusicBrowser setup is asking for a folder, and won't see the shortcut anyway...

Re: Music Browser plugin v1.3 -- Browse your music by folder

OK.  Place a shortcut in your c:\users\public\public music  folder.  The shortcut should not use a mapped drive letter, UNC would look like this \\server\my music .  You need to place quotes around the entire string if you have more than one word in any subdirectory.
