Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE
jonpurkis:Is it possible to pause the playback of the iplayer with the MCE remote? My connection speed isn't quite fast enough to stream the video from start to finish, so it would be nice to let it download in advance when in pause, so that I can play it without jitters.
I wish it were possible, but the bbc flash player doesn't like keyboard or remote interaction. The mouse is the only option for pausing as far as I know. Martin

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE
I've checked the Adobe Flash forum and at present it is NOT possible to use the MCE remote with Flash.....there appears to be no plans either!

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE
This program is great and just what I was looking for - thanks a lot !!!!!
One question though, is there any possibility to change the interface so that instead of a regular black background, we can opt for the regular Vista Media Center blue background ??? Thanks again.

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE
Hello again!
Thanks for these updates, they're amazing! I haven't tried the C4 stuff yet (as I personally only access MCE via Extender). I will however release this new update on the family to see what they make of it, if the mother gives the go-ahead - I'll be impressed!
Very good work! I think we know where the BBC needs to look if they want an official release ;o)

I went for a black background because the UI was meant to be similar to the BBC iPlayer pages. Now that I include C4 too, perhaps I'll have a re-think. There was an interesting article from Microsoft's Charlie Owen (http://blog.retrosight.com/WhyOurLookFeelIsntAvailableToApplications.aspx) where he advocated making sure you have a different UI for add-ins, which I didn't particularly agree with, but in this case I thought there was a valid point. The C4 stuff probably will work on your extender, since it is wmv files, not flash. I'd be interested if someone could give it a go. I also just updated the latest release to 1.3.1. Because of the way the C4 website is arranged, it can take a long time to do a screen scrape of the content, so I multi-threaded that part and had it start caching the C4 content as soon as you open the application. It does slow down the home page rendering a little bit, but C4 is very fast now. I would be interested in feedback on whether or not it makes a difference for people. Martin

I would also vote in favor of another "more advanced" UI: not necessarily the Microsoft UI if you don't want to, but at least something a little more visually pleasing than plain old black. Otherwise, awesome job!

Well done! - your right the C4 works really well on extenders - with full control over its speed, pausing etc all available!
I would agree with a slight re-work of the UI - though it is improving with every release!
I will now be using this myself on the Extender! thats awesome!
Its a shame that BBC don't do it the same way - maybe we should protest :o)

It seems the WAF was higher with the Microsoft background too, so I have updated it to that (version 1.3.2), as well as a change to make sure that the C4 programs are in alphabetical. Martin

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE
Again - much more appealing! keeps getting better and better! - you need a donations section on your site! paypal or otherwise, I'd be happy - not to pay you for the product as such, but a contribution for the work you have put into it?

That's very kind of you. It does cost me real money in software licenses and web hosting, but I really just write the software for my own fun (yea, I know - what a geek). I did have a donate button on the old version of my web site, and although I have had thousands of downloads of my software, the grand total of donations over the past three years has been a big fat zero. When I updated my web site, I didn't even bother adding a donate button, since it seemed like not worth the effort of coding it. I have added it back now though (http://www.milliesoft.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=8). By the way, version 1.3.3 is available now, which includes the Channel 4 programs when you search by date. Martin

If it keeps going the way it is...I am sure others will donate a little too! (as they say, every little helps!). I am very impressed with the software so far! so thanks a lot! (atleast I can get some use on the extender now!!)

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE
So impressed with this. I use a media centre extender - works brilliantly for Channel 4. Shame the BBC stuff is blocky with no sound. Will go on their forums now and suggest they improve their work :-)
One comment - I dom't know how MCE allows you to add plug-ins, but I have My Movies and when I install the MCE iPlayer it gets rid of my iPlayer link under TV & Movies. I can add it back, but I can only have one or the other at the top level. Is there any way to have both?
If you can get ITV catch up in here, like someone else said, no need for some rubbish extra software they can just use yours.
Core2Duo 2.2GHz 2GB RAID (mirror) 160GB 3.5TB Hauppage Twin Digital Tuners Vista Home Premium (SP1 x32 Auto-update)
LinkSys DMA2200 (wireless g, 1.1.5)

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE
ITV catchup is on my to-to list, but it's not trivial. The extender issue is really more Microsoft's fault than the BBC's. The BBC have implemented a cross platofrm solution that works in most circumstances - even on mobile phones. The way the extender works though is that is does a kind of remote desktop session to your PC, and the content has to be moved over the LAN as a series of updates to the screen, instead of just rendering it locally on the extender, which would work fine. Microsoft really needs to rethink the way flash works on extenders, perhaps by having a special flash handler in the extender host software. As for only being allowed one entry in the TV menu bar - that's a surprise. Does anyone else know why that is happening? In the meanwhile, you can install whichever you prefer to be there last, and access the other via the program library. Martin
