Re: Yougle 2.0 (for Vista) - ALPHA testers needed soon

I'm aware that Yougle isn't working currently on most machines - this is because of a change to the YouTube site layout and where they keep their files.

However, due to computer problems at the moment I haven't been able to fix it yet.

I'm working on a new technique to gather data from websites that should not change as often as they currently are. This should allow Yougle to be much more stable, and support a number of new sites such as Google Video, Dailymotion and several others.

Stick with me - I'll get it out as soon as my machine is back up and running.

    Any word yet?

I am experiencing the problem where the app appears to try and play the video (on the little VFD of my antec fusion case display it shows "get_video"), tries to display the video, and fails (loop 3 times) then states the "Cannot Play Video" error message.
I am yet to actually get this up and going on the htpc.

I am current running Vista home premium Englush (australian)

    Nevertheless hope it goes well.
Keep up the awesome work.Big Smile [:D]

    luiznunes,

I am by no way or means an expert in this software (hell, i can't even get it to run myself!). However sometimes a fresh look at the problem may help... Feel free to read on if you think i may be able to help.

There appears to be a similar problem with Quicken accounting software. Windows installer having problems with not enough access. Info here: http://web.intuit.com/support/quicken/2003/win/574122.html

It also states the following(on the same FAQ page):
This error may appear due to policy settings on your computer. See Microsoft Knowledge Base article 227181 for instructions on modifying this information.
That KB link is here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q227181

The aforementioned may be worth a look, check to make sure you indeed have privileges (I know you said you already had, also that there is no 3rd party firewall/protection software that could prevent it from installing.
Check to make sure you have the most recent version of the windows installer.

Failing that, possibly wait for IgnoranceIsBliss to help. :)
    Good luck

nop.... this pages are relative to Windows 2000. The Vista does not have some reg keys that are in those pages.

Re: Yougle 2.0 (for Vista) - ALPHA testers needed soon

I'm afraid that I simply don't know what could cause that problem - I'm using a very normal Windows Installer program, so I can't think of why it would be having issues. Do you have User Account Control turned on in Vista?

It does sound like there is a Group Policy or a similar thing in place to prevent the installation of your software.

It doesn't REALLY matter at the moment though, since right now Yougle isn't working properly. Not only has Youtube changed the way you access their videos, but Microsoft has also changed the way Windows deals with URL's.

Re: Yougle 2.0 (for Vista) - ALPHA testers needed soon

    Good News!

Yougle 2 has had a MAJOR rework, and is now running as Yougle Vista. I've completely revamped the engine behind it, and it's now sourcing data from DailyMotion, DivX Stage 6, MSN Sandbox, Blip.TV, Google Video / Youtube, WWITV and (for Australian audiences only) "The Chasers War on Everything" from ABC TV.

It supports downloading files from sites that allow it (ie. Google Video & DivX Stage 6), searching and browsing.

I'll also be releasing an SDK to help people write their own data sources, so if you want to make your own data source, you can.

I'll be uploading a video of the new version very shortly, and hopefully a complete new alpha build soon!

    Uhh Bad news.

I've uninstalled the old version (yougle 2) and just downloaded the app from http://www.push-a-button.com.au/downloads/showdownload.php?ID=12

Still stuffed. Doesn't work, same problem as before.

Where is that new version you said you had???

Re: Yougle 2.0 (for Vista) - ALPHA testers needed soon

hmm, odd. It didnt let me post...

Tried uninstalling the old version that wasn't getting through to YouTube, installed a fresh copy off the site , only to find that it fails exactly like the old one.

Is it up there on the web?

If not, and you have time and want me to give it a test whirl, end me a copy, I have a spare few hour or so to give it a try on the production machine before the other half gets home and wants to watch sea patrol.

    Shoot me a message :)

    Cheers

I am sure he will put it up when he is ready to do it.

Anyway, didn't you notice the version number and file name were exactly the same?
