Re: myTV v1.0.08038c released
spplutchok:It seems that Arne is NOT interested in
supporting his users. i am tired of being ignored and putting up with
the constant erroring of his buggy plug-in. I wish I hadn't ponied up
and paid for his commercial version. As far as I am concerned, I have
been suckered.
Arne, you contributed this thread two days ago
(7-2-2008) but ignored requests for info on your site and it's
problems. Your unwillingness to inform your user base when they can
expect continued support is conduct unbecoming of a IT professional.
You have an obligation to support users who have paid for your
software.
myTV is a good product. I would very much like to
use it. I need support to work out a recurring error message when
using it. I shouldn't have to seek support for your product on a
third-party website.
I have been patient and have had enough. I
can only conclude that myTV has been abandoned by it's author and is
now a dead project.
Though i am willing to accept that it may have taken you as long to write your post that you missed the post by Arne beforehand, I think we just need to calm down a bit. I understand your current feelings, but I trust Arne when he says he's working to get it back up. One thing is that I don't see where Arne contributed to this thread on 7-2-08 since there most recent posts before today are from 7/1/08. So please check your facts before posting ;) Lets all just calm down and see what we can do to help Arne out :D

Re: myTV v1.0.08038c released
SirMeili:Hey Arne,
Thanks for the heads up. If there is anything you need let me know. I can see about tracking down the linksys you need and getting it for you if that at all helps out ;)
You have my email and such from the mytv website, if not pm me here and I'll give it to you.
Sir Meili
That would be great. If anyone happens to have a Linksys WRT54GS v1-v3 or any WRTSL54GS I'm willing to take it off your hands if the price is right. There are others I could use, but since I'm running a customized dd-wrt I need the 32MB of ram these two devices offer.
I'll get an email out to you tomorrow also. Thanks for the support, much appreciated.

Re: myTV v1.0.08038c released
What is my fucking problem? Are you serious? The first thing I saw when I checked this thread today in the very first post (2007-08-12) is the following edit contributed on 7/2/2008: ---edit 7/2 2008--- New Trial versions available for download here. There hasn't been a public announcement made yet, but the files are there. Version 1.0.08038c is the current build.
Will post full details with new screenshots and an overview of the application in a day or so. ---end edit--
Prior to that I don't see you on this thread after a 2008-03-10 post. In this day and age do you really expect me to believe that you could not get to some computer, somewhere, anywhere, and check this thread or contact your user base in some way? Please... But let me spell out MY fucking problem for you: I have thousands of dollars invested in a home theater system (HTPC, TV, Stereo, etc.) which I cannot get to operate reliably enough to put into service for my wife and family due to constant errors related to YOUR SOFTWARE. They don't understand why they can't select myTV without getting a "Stupid myTVService error!" I'm sick of contending with these errors and defending your software when I can't reach you. I'm going to bat for you and You Can't Understand My FUCKING Problem?Aside from the above edit contribution, You haven't been on YOUR thread since 2008-03-10, almost 4 (Four) months. Since I can't get support from you or access to your website & forums for a crucial PAID component of my system, and notice many others on this thread feeling as frustrated I am, perhaps you can imagine that I am understandably PISSED.I very much appreciate the assistance of the many betatesters on this thread who have offered invaluable advice regarding myTV setup/error issues. Without them and others on this thread there would have been no news and no hope of resolving some of my problems. In fact without you resurfacing here I would still think you skipped town. However, my problems with myTV are not theirs to resolve. I paid you and expect you to stand behind your product. Don't get pissy with me when I come to a conclusion that you abandoned us. My offer still stands: If you need financial or technical assistance, I know that your user base won't let you down. Your software is worth way more than what I paid. I appreciate all your hard work and really want to see your product succeed. Setup a PayPal account so that your user base can contribute to your recovery. I'm sure that my $20.00 along with the assistance of others will go a long way to shore you up until you get back on your feet. Own up to your mistake - your user base deserved assurance when you went offline. Your management of this crisis sucked!!!

Re: myTV v1.0.08038c released
spplutchock, clearly you're an idiot....
I could solve your problems in about two minutes, but you continue to *** and moan about support not being provided in this thread (it's against the rules for a commercial app).
Support is provided in the official forums, which clearly you've been to since you claim to have bought the commercial application.
Given, the site's been down for a while, due to what sounds like a serious incident at the developers home. That's probably slightly more important to fix than dealing with your little hissy fits.

Re: myTV v1.0.08038c released
spplutchok: Ok, it may look like that refers to July 2nd, but infact it refers to February 7th when 08038 was released. Something you should already be aware of as I know for a fact you have frequented the myTV website. I'll agree, not using the same dateformats in my edits of the first post in this thread is misleading, but as not everyone in the world uses month/day/year I sometimes get confused - especially so with currently residing in a country using a completely proprietary dateformat.
Anyway, surely you can understand my frustration with your post when I have lost thousands of dollars worth of equipment in a split second due to a lightning strike. Sure, I could have handled the situation better - I could have doubled up on all my hardware and set it up in a secondary location running of a different internet providers backbone thereby ensuring 100% 24/7 access to everyone - then again, myTV isn't bringing in that sort of cash and whilst I would love providing stuff for free that just isn't the way the world works. I still have bills to pay, I need to put food on the table and I need petrol in my tank - as myTV is my main source of income at the moment purchasing new redundant hardware isn't very high on my list.
So in short, given the circumstances I could not have handled the situation any better. I dare you to find another small business with the same extent of damage my infrastructure took which were back online any faster than I will be. Perhaps you don't understand what happens if you put a few thousand (or million - I wasn't there with my voltmeter) volts through an ethernet cable - the cable seizes to exist. The ports on the switch said cables were connected to get burnt out to the extent that the 8 'pins' connecting to the RJ45 plug are also gone. Ok, had I had my cables running in fugly cable-gates it would be fairly easy to replace them, for some reason I prefer having them out of sight, hidden in walls though, which means hours of work goes into pulling replacement cables. It's not like I've lost a single piece of hardware here, my entire network is pretty much gone (bar the backup server I put online a few days before the strike due to my SQL problem) - so you can sit there and cry about your thousands of dollars invested in a HTPC which does not work because of my software (come on, get a grip - the issue you are referring to was resolved months ago over at the official myTV website and if you have performed a reinstall since surely you would remember what the cause was), but please remember that I lost more than my (2 month old) HTPC, it also burnt out servers and network infrastructure clearly costing a lot more.
If you still don't understand - let me make it clearer for you; every day the website is down I am losing money due to lost sales. Not only is this a direct loss there and then but it will also have longer term repercussions as people who may have found the website during the past week would not have done so, thereby they could not have downloaded the trial and hence future sales are also lost. This means it is clearly in my best interest to get the site back up as soon as possible.
Finally, like I already said, the replacement switch is already on order and will be here within the week. The problem I have is the router, which I specified needed to be a v3 or below - any of the WRT54GS's currently available in stores are version 7.2 (or possibly higher) which has 16MB of RAM and 2MB of flash memory where I clearly stated I was in need of the 32/8 my old v3 router provided me with. Hopefully though, with the help of other people here I'll be able to source a router that fits my needs perfectly - and if not, I'll get a temporary solution up.
As for a paypal account - one already exists, as you are clearly aware of since you have previously used PayPal to purchase a myTV license, and whilst donations would be very welcome I am not about to go out begging for money. Had I followed a different business model (donationware or shareware) then yes, but since this is positioned as commercial software where you actually _have_ to pay to get a fully working up-to-date version I don't feel as though I can say "pretty please, send me some more money".
Anyhow, enough arguing. I just hope you can understand why I lost my head with you in the first place. The site will be back up soon with a brand spanking new build available for download. Until then, critical support is available via email only (click Contact here on the TGB forums).

dude, seriously, if you are that unsatisfied with Arne, then i'll give you 20 bucks outta my pocket so u can stfu and go find a better tv archiving program for vista (good luck). the reason all of us betatesters went out of our way to help ppl like you is because we really like what arne is doing for us and the online media community in general. i personally think you got a lot of nerve bitching about a program u only paid 20 bucks for, a program which you admit is worth a lot more. I mean his house got fuckin struck by lighting have some respect, otherwise go scratch.

Re: myTV v1.0.08038c released
Hello Arne,
I just wanted to send my regards about the strike. I have never used the MyTV application and am in the audience of potential purchasers for your income stream. I wanted to let you know that I can understand your reaction to spplutchok's comments given the circumstances you are in. Additionally, I am looking forward to trialing and likely purchasing when you come back online.
To spplutchok, you over-reacted a bit...it happens. I believe it is time to get over it. Could Arne have responded to your original email a bit better...sure, but the guy's been through a lot lately so let's just give him a break. I have been closely monitoring this thread and I was regularly checking to see if the site was back up as well as I am interested in trialing and likely purchasing this add-in for my VMC. I can understand your frustration with not having a working solution for your family, but your options here are a bit limited. I believe you'll find as you read these posts that Arne has many more supporters than you do and the reason is he has provided a great piece of software at a very reasonable price. A one to two week period is simply not enough to throw in the towel and presume the worst (e.g., stating that the product is dead and no longer supported). When you purchased the software, I'm certain you didn't get a SLA for 99.999 % uptime. Regardless, the original basis for your concern is no more as it is clear the software will continue to be supported. I'm certain he will get everything back up and running soon and your family will forget over time as they enjoy this software going forward...also, Arne mentioned a solution in the works that will reduce your dependence on his site which is a good indicator that he recognizes the dependency and is actively making his product better... I'm sure your family will understand that sometimes technology has issues. Best of luck to you and as for me, I'm excited about using this product.
Greg

Re: myTV v1.0.08038c released
Arne: Yes, I completely understand lightning strikes. I have a tree on my property that was one of the tallest in the township. It was struck twice in three years. It can happen.
Dealing with homeowners insurance for recovery sucks worst because of the paperwork headache. You'll never get what you ought to. (Check your warranties on your surge protectors. Often those include coverage for equipment running off them. Its one of the reasons Monster products are expensive.)
Failover systems would probably NOT have resolved this misunderstanding. This misunderstanding exists because when your site went offline, there was no communication to your user base for an extended time.
All I was upset about was how I screwed I thought I was not knowing
what was going on. I was not the only person to start to get worried. There were more than a few who got seriously concerned. Your presence here totally alleviated the tension; I just wish you had dropped in sooner.
PayPal: Regardless of your business model, what I was suggesting was more of an Amish barn raising thing. I did not mean to imply or suggest any "begging of money" on anyones part. I sincerely just wanted to help, financially or otherwise.
Clearly, I made an idiot of myself. I will STFU now, okay? Sorry everyone...

Hi Arne - glad to hear that everything is OK and that you and your family are OK. Also delighted that your working hard in the background to get things up and running again - I and others had every faith that you would be - I'm really missing my fix.
