I'm really loving the progress that is being made with Open Media Library. I've been using it to seperately manage my 'personal media' collection with great success. Currently I have to use the Settings page to hide the Movie Library strip when I'm not perusing my video collection. While this method works there are a LOT of extra button pushes required.

I would really love to see a password protection feature added to the program. I just need an optional feature that prompts for a configurable 4-digit pin number when I attempt to open the program. I have NEVER seen this feature on any other MCE video player and I think it would really make OML stand out from the others.

Oh and while I'm already begging...one other feature that I would love to see is the ability to play movies directly from the main title selection screen. DVD Library, My Movies and vmcNetflix all allow you to simply press the remote's Play button on the currently highlighted movie thumbnail to start the movie.

Thanks for listening...keep up the great work!

I requested a "Hide my porn from the kids" feature over at the official forums. The response was:
I think we have basically decided to hook into the pre-existing VMC parental controls, which basically lets you select a max rating and a never this rating settings. In order to get past this you would have to enter a pin number. We can/will likely offer the ability to hide titles that do not fall under the given set of parental restrictions.
I'm not sure this approach will cover the specific need, though, unless it is multi-layered. What happens if you want to unlock that R movie when you have company over? Suddenly all your porn will be visible, too. Depending on who is visiting, that could lead to some interesting moments. "Mom, dad... we were supposed to be watching Braveheart... I'm not going to watch DP-stravaganza #4 with you!" The best option I've seen so far is Squirrel Stash, I just don't like having to create encrypted virtual drives to store the files.

This is a good point, I'll start a discussion on our official forums for the development team and see what we come up with.

If I want to try this app out, and I know its still a beta, what is the most stable version, still the public release or the last daily build?

    Thanks

I'm sure this is posted somewhere but I can't find it.  I have installed the latest version and it works just fine on my PC.  However when I try to play a DVD on my 360 Elite (from a VOB file), I get an error that states that the file can't be found or the file type is not recognized.  My movies are ripped 1:1 onto a WMHS and the file path is mapped to the main PC.  I have tried using the mapped file path and also a direct network file path and both get the same error.

If anyone can tell me how to get it to work on my 360, that would be great.  Thanks.

Make sure you have transcode 360 installed. Reboot then try again.

    Good luck!!

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

Ive tried Transcode360 numerous times and it fails. I reckon you ought to wait until OML have finished their version of a transcoder...well I am anyway.

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

Transcoder works when just transcoding directly from the file but not if I'm trying to play the file through OML.  Humph!

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

Does anyone have Virtual Clone Drive working with the latest daily build? I have OML pointing to c:\program files\elaborate bytes\VirtualCloneDrive\VCDMount.exe but every time I click the Play Movie button, I get an error that says, "Could not mount [E:\\] or don't know how to play this file type". I know Virtual Clone Drive is working properly cause if I go directly to the .ISO file and right-click and select mount, the file will mount and I can play the movie. can anyone help? This is the last piece I need to have my mediacenter working. Thanks.

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

Ok, this may be a really silly question, and may have been covered within the last 40+ pages. On the screenshots of this app, the first screen shows loads of DVD covers and then the description of the highlighted dvd on the left handside. Does this view still exist? I'm trying this on my laptop and the description appears along the bottom of the screen. I only have 4 films to check it against (rest are on my main MCE), so I'm not sure if this maybe the problem. For information these 4 dvd covers show up on the far right of the screen.

    Thanks

Is this project still being worked on? There haven't been any posts on here for a while and there are no daily builds for over a month. I hope you guys haven't given up cause this OML is amazing.

I think the main developers have just run out of time with their daily workload picking up. That being said the project is open source, and any developers wanting to help can always come aboard.

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

I think I can speak for most when I say, there is not a single person watching these developments that is not overcome with praise for the development team for a spendid piece of work.  We should all realise it is time given by these talented few, for nothing in return.

As a community though, I think it's time we could do with hearing the voice of one of these 'masters of their art', as a comfort blanket that the project is still very much alive.  So is our droogan leader.. the 'king' Manon himself going to answer our call, and update us?  Or will that brainiac who can make a whole language out of the letter "C" hear our crys?... that's you trasns!

Just give your followers our hope and dreams back!

    Cheers guys, you're all aces!

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

Do we have a clear solution for transcoding yet? Is the built-in transcoder working? If not, is there a way to simply mount an avi or mkv as a disk image so it can be played on my XBox 360 extender? Thanks in advance.
