RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
First off, great app!!!! For the movies that could be found it seemed to import the coverart properly. For the movies I had to manually add using other services I do not get the image. I then went and found the ones I would use, named them folder.jpg and placed them in the main folder for the movie, the one above video_ts, but they still do not show up. I've rebooted mce a few times but no changes. I read on the other forum that a few people had solved this problem but no answer was given, do you know the solution? Also: It seems really strange that brand new movies just released dont show up.... Do they take some time for their database to update or something? finally.... it would be really nice to skip the non-video folders during the scan. Each time I open the program it has to scan through all 2500 music albums which just takes way to long... just an idea....

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
none of mine were showing up, until i enabled "download information for music, DVDs, etc automatically". it's under settings. enabling it in Window Media Player does not enable it for the Media Center App.

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
Thanks; I’m releasing a beta version very soon (the one you use is just a very early test version) I’ve added auto update support of the app itself, so I can publish new versions and it will auto update in seconds when you start it. I checked the image problems you had, and it looks like MCE doesn’t want to download images from other places than images.windowsmedia.com, so I’ll just remove the largeCoverParams/smallCoverParams data from the XML (on meta info that is non-AMG); and make sure that the app downloads a folder.jpg file for all “custom added” movies. When it comes to the startup scan, I’ll put in some functions that allow you to exclude the directories you don’t want to scan… In time, I will probably drop the whole scan stuff, and make it build up a local db of all videos instead, but I have a lot of other stuff to do first…. I’m almost done with some nice functions to custom edit the movie info (and have it uploaded to the web service) so that you can have MCE display what ever you want… And then a brief explanation of the search functions. If you look at the search results here;
Valid AMG id’s - is from our local metaservice, at this moment it’s only about 100 id’s here. This is dependent on people using this service, so that we can get valid id’s this way. Custom movies - Is custom info that users can create/modify and upload to the metaservice, and then have MCE auto-download every time it needs it. IMDB Movies - Is queried from IMDB (online) and par$ed (had to use $, the forum didn't like the word with an 's') into XML that MCE can understand, usually this will contain all info (including synopsis), but NOT chapters. Title search from AMG - Is search done by title in AMG’s metaservice; this usually gives us everything, EXCEPT synopsis (as I can see). And we don’t get any valid dvdid here either. But we can use this info (that contains chapter) and ‘merge’ it with some info from IMDB, and we will have a complete movie info that MCE can download on demand

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
Wow, the upcoming changes sound amazing. I'm really looking forward to trying the new vs. as they come out. So far I still have not been able to get the folder.jpg to show up and yes I did turn on the download information for dvd etc, in the media player and also in mce. As your new vs. will make it easier I will not spend my time trying to figure out what is wrong there. I have to say that other than it taking a few seconds to get the movie started after selecting it that this seems to work pretty good. I can get my system to hang by stopping and then reselecting a new movie to fast, but I'm sure that has more to do with mce than anything else. I'm running a decently fast machine so I'm pretty certain that's not it. Anyhow, thanks for such a great application. I'm really starting to have a lot of fun with it. By the way, I did see a demo of the vista vs. of mce and it looks pretty amazing. From the audio side at least they had the same type of 'theme' I was talking about with a screen full of album covers that scrolled very fast. I'm really hoping that they do the same for movies. If you need early beta testers etc, just let me know, I'd be glad to help out.

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
Here is another update: The images and the startup scan has not been taken care of yet, I will fix that in a couple of days. But this one supports adding of custom movie info And this one auto-update itself when needed (so no need to download other versions later) I’ve also added a form where you can post messages to me (requests/bugs etc..) I've also put up a temp place where ppl can submit & search dvdid's (if someone want's to share id's with us ) http://www.e-home.no/metaservices/search.aspx

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
it would be great if the program had a feature to automaticaly upload DVDIDs from our collections, or at least the custom DVDIDs. this would be a quick way to build that database. also, is it possible to get the DVD folders to show up only in "My DVDs", but not "My Videos"? It's not a big deal since i don't use my videos for anything anyway, but now there's just a bunch of empty directories showing up.

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
Right now I'm only uploading valid id's, but of course, It's no problem to make a function to upload all id's. But, non-valid id's is itself not very interesting, the only thing interesting is your custom movie info (if any). Are you talking about the ability to upload all your 'custom' meta xml files to the meta service ? In that case, jepps, no problem, I can quickly make a function for that... When it comes to showing DVDs in MyDVDs and not 'My Videos'; don't know if this is possible, I think both this functions (MyDVDs & 'My Videos') uses the "shell folder" path to "My Video" You can move MyDVDs to another pc over the network if you move the "shell folder" path for it, but then 'My Videos' follows ...

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
Hi Gelano, I also want to ask you your permission to use and distribute DvdControl.dll. The program Andy build got me inspired to do some work again and I basicly build (with the help off some code snipets from Andy, Thanks!) the same thing he did, but with an MCE interface. It's basicly done, just have to do some minor code cleanup and then have a select group of people test it before I release it. Thanks, Danee

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
Kristian, I downloaded beta 1 and ran the program. It seem to update itself and then say "Application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). Click on OK to terminate." Any ideas? Thanks

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
I got the same thing but redownloaded the zip just now and it works (saw it on xpmce.com originally). Kristian, I did post a message on the other forum for you. Here it is cuz it seems you read here more frequently: "Hi Kristian,
Even tho I added M:\DVDs (a network drive where I have my DVD collection) to the monitored folders in Media Player, your app continued to look at the currently logged in user's "My Video" directory. I had to modify HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\My Video to point to M:\DVDs for the app to find my DVDs. You'll see about 30 additional entries to your database as of 9:45AM this morning from me."

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
Her is a new working version I've disabled the autoupdate feature, will be fixed in the next release. This one only scan the My Video folder (where MCE looks for DVD's)

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
Hi, before posting my question, I have to admit that I'm totally new in MCE - just got my first MCE system. So sorry, if I'm missing the obvious ... After reading through all the posts here on "my DVDs", I still can't seem to figure out the most straight forward way for my problem: I have a Sony MCE station with DVD changer attached. 95% of my DVDs are region 2 (german), so I'vet set the changer drive to region 2 - works just fine. However, I'm missing basically all the DVD metadata in "my DVDs". Tried "my Movies", but than again, it doesn't support the changer at the moment, so it's not my solution (even though I really liked the features "myMovies" provides...) I guess, my question is, if there's an idiot compatible step by step "howto" that explains how (and where) I would store the meta data. I'd appreciate if anyone of you experts yould provide me some firsthand advise on that. Thanks, Jan

RE: Enable "My DVD's" with full info using DVD images
I'm currently working on this, a way to map your Region2 ID's to valid Region1 ID's. Can you give me a couple of your Region2 DVDID's (use 'My DVD Settings' to extract it) and the title for the movies? If you do that I can put them into my metaservice and you can do a quick test to se if it works well....
