Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008 Buqtrack Thread

Some teletext pages won't work in tv-pack.

In Sweden (goverment television) teletext begins on page 100 and has a few pages of headlines on page 101-105. These headline pages can't be found with TV-pack. You can enter their pagenumbers but it will never find them. Same problem exists for page 300. Other pages works fine though.

I'm currently troubleshoting another issue where I can play a DVD from Windows Media Player but if i try from Media Center i get the sound but just a black picture instead of the dvd menu

    Bug with DVB-S

The major benifit for NZ (New Zealand) was the DVB-S support as this is our main source of digital free-to-air TV, SD only. DVB-T is HD using H.264 so were out of luck there.

The great thing about DVB-S support is that we now have a legal/easy way of getting a program guide, only problem is most of the recordings get cancelled after a little while. Some work some don't, some record for 5mins and some just don't record at all. Really fustrating!

Also one other bug is that the TV codec will stop working after a while when you go to watch live or recorded TV, theis requires media cantre to be restarted and then it works again. Anyone in europe having these issues?

Yes, I get this. After a while especially when I come out of S3 I get Decoder error or Video Error.

I also get some form of codec break (or degeneration) which never happened before installing TV Pack. This is with Live TV (DVB-T) in the UK. If you rapidly skip backwards and then forwards (not REW/FF but skip), after a while it appears as if the processor is struggling to keep up, or as if the TV signal has degenerated. The picture will pixelate badly or go 'blocky' every minute or so. The only solution is to reboot, after which Live TV, and anything else, will then play perfectly again. It only appears to happen when watching live TV, and not recorded TV (either DVR-MS or WTV), but can be reproduced every time.

I did a completely clean install with AnyDVD as the only other software besides Ultimate 64 and TVPack and had no problem burning a show recorded in WTV format to DVD.  It was even an HD program and it got downconverted and burned with nothing more than the usual "Burn to DVD" function.  Possibly adding other software (like Nero) might break the built-in burning applications.  Don't know this for a fact - just speculation.

    Hi All

I can confirm that by adding Nero this does break the DVD buring facility. I uninstalled Nero 8 using the nero remove all tool. This now allows me to burn the show. However, I get no audio. Arcsoft TMT seemed to be set to preferred audio decoder to I have reduced the priority and set the MS Decoders to preferred in DSFMGR. I will report to see if this fixes the audio.

    Hi All

Just to confirm that by reseting the TMT condec to normal priority and setting the MS Decoders to preferred I am now able to successfully burn WTV shows with no issue.

Is it just me or is the zoom option not remembering it's setting on an extender with tv-pack?

I'm having to re-select the zoom mode everytime.  It's really annoying!

I don't know about extenders, but Zoom mode has certainly changed. And it really is annoying.

Before TV pack, the first 'click' of Zoom mode would show your current mode, which was really useful. Only on the second and subsequent clicks would it start cycling through the modes. Now with TV pack, the first 'click' of zoom mode actually changes it it. Which means half the time I always end up cycling through all the modes just to get back to where I started.

Come on MS. How can this possibly be an 'improvement'?

I've noticed that.  I guess it's an improvement because you have one less button to press.

I went through my Speaker setup again last night and I noticed that when I selected 5.1, it played the sounds through the FL, C, FR then FL and FR again, like it was playing the RR and RL sounds through the FL and FR.

I agree that the change in how Zoom works in TV Pack is a step backward. The original behavior where it showed the currect zoom mode first was much better.

I think what some people were asking for as an improvement to the original zoom, was a way to go directly to a particular zoom mode instead of having to cycle through the zoom modes one-by-one.

Would it be possible to enable numbers 1-4 on the remote whenever zoom is is selected?

That would enable going directly to a particular zoom mode.

Now that sounds like a very sensible idea to me.

Make sure you have "Volume Leveling" turned off and try again.  VMC's Volume Leveling has the unfortunate side effect of turning 5.1 surround sound into 2.0 stereo.  I spent several hours fighting it until given the tip by another greenbuttoner.  Too bad VMC didn't tell me when I initially checked the box.

Would that be the Auto setting in DVD and TV audio for the Decoder Settings. Uncheck it and select Normal?

MHEG (in UK) can cause some TV channels to display black screen after using. Its random and frequent bug [clean Vista SP1 integrated install and security updates and two hotfixes with TV Pack)

Found the MHEG can crash a lot.

    ...

Yes TV Pack has been unstable for me too, and it appears to be MHEG causing most of the problems. II find if you use it a lot, particularly if you make selections while the screen is still being updated, Media Center can get into some bizarre states, from which the only solution is to close and re-open it:

    1. High CPU usage resulting in very slow thumbnail display, and jerky, blocky TV playback.
    2. Total loss of display of recorded TV thumbnails. Only a reboot fixed this.
    3. Black screen on some channels.
    4. Certain more complex MHEG screens seemed to completely freeze - like the BBC sports multi-screen page after flicking around the 4 mini-screen options to change the audio.

    ScottC:

    Mike,

You say this is fixed in the next version, is this a hot fix \ windows update or are you speaking of a seperate release.

     spplutchok

Here is what I have found - the the main bug I am having problems with is related to cable cards.  Everything works fine without WTV 2008 however some channels (which I am suppose to have) with cable cards will come up and say ther is no TV signal (if watching live) however if you set the channel to record it will record just fine and you can watch the program, you just can't warch it live.  It appears to only affect HD channels and not neccisarily all of them ( I have 3 channels I am having problems with).

Anyone know the answer to this question about whether the next version is a hot fix \ windows update or a separate release. I looked through this entire thread but did not see an answer :)
