Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    Hi Everyone.

Searched the Web and ended up here.  Whew.  So it's not just me.

I got this laptop in Aug 2006.  Using XP.

In recent months, daily updates had become hit-n-miss (setup to get manually).   Lately, I noticed only weekday updates.

Then, no updates Friday-through-Sunday or even until later on a Monday.

Now, it's been about 5 days of no Guide updates!

I'm going to have to setup my Series Recordings manually, if this continues.  Hence, not 'Guide' dependent.

        :O->=;

    Analog Tuner / Antenna.

    Start Date:  8/17 8pm  -   End Date:  8/31 11pm ET.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

Mine is off as of 8/31 5PM PST.

This might help in any diagnostic:

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

I too am having the same issues...guide has not been updated in roughly 6-7 days or so.  I initially thought it was a problem on my end with my network, but it wasn't.

My Satelite provider is Bell Expressvu (West) here in Canada.

I located a thread over on Microsoft's "Windows XP Newsgroups", and I'm providing the link here, for those that are interested.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.mediacenter&mid=811ca97b-45da-4f04-b807-58e27d1ee60b

Also, in the hopes that it helps somebody figure this out, (since I too believe that this a problem on Microsoft's end), I'm including the activity log from my gateway/router showing what my Windows XP 2005 MCE (w/ SP2 and RU2) is doing...

    1219632306.654    832 192.168.10.249 TCP_MISS/302 573 GET http://www.microsoft.com/ - DIRECT/207.46.19.254 text/html
    1219632307.365    705 192.168.10.249 TCP_REFRESH_HIT/200 63909 GET http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx - DIRECT/65.55.21.250 text/html
    1219632321.268   1227 192.168.10.249 TCP_MISS/200 292 POST http://sqm.msn.com/sqm/ehome/sqmserver.dll - DIRECT/131.107.113.76 -

As best as I can tell, the "problem" lies in the sqm.msn.com site, since the last time MCE did anything, the log entry looked like this:

    1219171706.556  40928 192.168.10.249 TCP_MISS/502 1415 POST http://sqm.msn.com/sqm/ehome/sqmserver.dll - DIRECT/131.107.113.76 text/html

Hopefully this info helps somebody figure this out, since I'm at my wits end...

    Thanks,

    Paul

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    Mike,

As was pointed out this is not just TV Pack 2008.  I'm running Vista w/ SP1.  I've tried setting up the TV signal again with both the analog and digital listings for my area.  Same result with both.  In the about Guide it shows a start date of Aug 17 and an end date of Aug 31.  I do find it odd that the start date would continue to show the 17th when it's the 25th today.  It seems like it's stuck on that date and it goes out the two weeks from that so it's ending on the 31st.  To me that seems like a key to the problem.  I hope this helps in troubleshooting.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

I'm not sure if these means anything, but I did some checking on zap2it.com, and it seems that their listings are fine.  Further, I decided (on a whim) to check tv.msn.com.

Much to my surprise, the listings there also end on August 31st.

Does this mean anything to anybody?  Are the listings in the EPG directly related to the listing in tv.msn.com?

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

I'm glad that I am not the only one with this problem I have noticed this for a few days now. I have not checked it this morning to see if there was an update last night. I hope that this is fixed soon. I dont have the TV pack so this issue is across the board. Someone from MS needs to respond with an ETA ASAP!!!

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

Microsoft wants to charge for technical support over email?  I tried to contact them and I get the option for Phone or email.  Phone is ridiculously priced and when I tried to send an email it asked me for payment options.

This problem is something on their end. Who charges service costs for email support?  Especially when the service is faulty.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

Even if they do get this fixed I am really starting to question continuing with MCE. The fact that there is virtually no way to contact Microsoft directly about such a major problem has me worried for the future, especially with the new TV season starting in just a few weeks. I might give SageTV a try, it's been a while since I checked it out and you know that something like this would be addressed much faster with them.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

I don't think this is a software problem. I bet this has something to do with the external guide source and some issue with them. Never the less MS needs to address this forum with some answers ASAP. I never have had an issue with Media Center so I have faith that it will be taken care of.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

Same issue with me too. Guide information shows last update was Start 8/17 End 9/1. When I run it manually I get a message back that "Update was Completed" but nothing is updated. I too tried to look fro support at support.microsoft.com. That site tells you you need to go to your PC manufacturer (Dell). Dell tells me they cannot report the issue to Microsort and now Microsoft wants to charge for support. Very frustrating

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

I'm having the same issue - no guide listings past August 31st.  Nothing special about my media center, Vista SP1, fully updated, only MS drivers, etc.  No TV-Pack, hardly anything else installed.  Manual attempts to update result in an almost-immediate "guide updated successfully."  Also tried restarting.

I'm not panicking yet, but September 1st is only a week away.  This is particularly bad timing with the fall telly starting up soon.

Re: Media Center Guide not updating

I'm so glad I found this forum- I was beginning to think I was going crazy because my program guide won't update past 8/31.

After doing some research, do you think this problem has anything to do with Zap2It - when you do an internet search on them and Media Center, it looks like they planned to discontinue free tv listings last year on 9/1/07.  Obviously, that didn't happen.  But is it possible that Microsoft has an annual contract with them that expires 8/31/08 and that is why we cannot download past that date?

Just a theory, I don't have anything to back this up.  It appears to maybe just be a coincidence on the date from 2007.
