RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen

Recently bought a new television, and lo and behold...I run into the same issue as you guys.  I've opened ticket 737-900499 with ATI tech support to find out what the heck is going on.  Like many of you I really prefer to run the latest version driver as opposed to the 5.6 version...but one more ticket added.

So what driver version is okay and works? is it 5.6?

Please let me know, I don't want to go testing myself if I can get the answer here..

    thanks!

I see this has been pretty quiet for a bit now.... has anyone gotten any new info on this? I'm currently running the 5.6 drivers and I get screen lines on fast moving images and the DVD menues don't show properly.

    uhh man... fricken ATI.

no new info here unfortunately. I am patiently awaiting the next release which will hopefully be soon -- they seem to be putting them out once a month now. 5.6 does indeed suck. wish i had better news.

In case anyone is wondering, 5.11 does not seem to fix this issue. I urge you to try it and see, but it did not for me. I for one, will be purchasing an Nvidia card for my own use and will recommend them from here on out to our customers. We will certainly not be putting ATI cards in the Media Center machines we make any longer. I am sick of this BS -- they obviously don't care enough about their customers or resellers to fix this.

I to agree, this is complete BS. I fail to see why ATI doesn't make this somewhat a priority.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen

Yeah, wouldn't you like to know why this is not more of a priority than:

3DMark05: Running the application under Windows XP MCE with CrossFire enabled no longer results in a warning message being displayed when closing the application

WTF?! Get your freakin priorities straight, ATI. We can't switch between display peripherals and if I game in a resolution other than the one my desktop is using, chances are that I will lose the entire display. I am incredulous. They can go to hell and I will sell Nvidia based products from now on.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen

I'm with all of you- this sucks and it's been three versions since I sent thema trouble ticket.

I do have a fix that seems to work ok for me- For some reason, when I go into Media Center, it does something to the video card that wakes it up. So before I turn off my TV, I just shut media center down (just the app, not the PC). Then I turn on the TV and press the green button, which launches MCE.

This is running Catalyst 5.11, but it was doing it in 5.10 too. I am running powerstrip to tweak the timing so it fits on my RP CRT HDTV.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen

Just wanted to let you all know that my solution works: Nvidia cards clear this problem right up. I can switch over to set top box and back to the pc, turn the monitor off at will, use fast user switching, and game in alternate resolutions -- all without having to worry that I will lose the display. I may just be happy, but I think the Live TV looks a little better too. I wish you guys luck with this.

Not the best out there, but it is certainly adequate for the gaming I do and media playback has been excellent. You can find these for $140 or so. I did lose 1080p support by moving to this card, but I wasn't using it anyway -- 720p does just fine. If you have any specific questions I'll be glad to answer them. I am going to fire up Battlefield 2 tonight and see how it does. It's quieter than my ATI card too. Good riddance.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen

Yup, same damn problem here...X700 ATI card.  I switched complete machines over this damn mess, went to a Nvidia 6600 (like it a lot btw), and will never buy another ATI card as long as I live.  Never saw this thread until it was too late, so I thought I was the only other person on the planet with the problem.  I posted it here (another forum topic), only got one response, and on AVS Forum (no responses), so I figured it was me.  I had returned the card (almost brand new) and got a new one..no diff.  Went to a major computer place and plugged my box into about 4 diff brand HDTV's, no Diff., etc.  Still thought it was just me and my bad luck as no one was responding to my post about it.. now I see why!  It was in a diff forum! (btw, I did search like heck for anything to do with ATI and never got anywhere near this thread!)   Anyway, I still have the box, WITH A BRAND NEW X700 still sitting cold and unpowered, so it would be nice to get a fix, but after a month it is not even fixed, so I can't see where ATI's priorities are at all.  Maybe not enough voices are being heard.  I will throw mine into the mix, but am not too hopeful.  Good luck all, this cost me $2200.00 (new media box, did not know it was just simply an ATI problem or would have just bought an Nvidia card!), so if you got off cheaper, consider yourself lucky! Damn ATI!

P.S - Oh yeah, my HDTV is the new A10 Sony RPLCD set, just FYI...

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen

So if I'm using XP pro and a 37" sharp aquos with a DVI -> HDMI cable i'm going to have problems with the x300?

If so how bad will the ATI-DVI COMPONENT setup look compared to HDMI?

    Any real drawbacks?  Please advise
