For those of you who can get the plugin to tune channels but then can't see them, try plugin in the cable to the tuner directly into the outside line or get a gain amplifier.  That's what got mine to work.  Drove me nuts for 2 days and then saw a post about amplifiers somewhere else.  Had one in the shed, plugged it in and it worked fine.

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

So I'm in the same boat that a few others appear to be in.  I have installed the driver and run the QAM scan utility.  The scan detects 31 channels.  The problem is getting those channels to display.

My understanding of the situation is that once the scan completes and you reboot new channels should be added to the Digital TV channels in Media Center.  When I go to check the digital tv signal strength all I see is the standard over the air channels, nothing new.  None of these channels get a signal, and I'm assuming that is expected as they are setup for an antenna not cable QAM.

    Am I just missing something???

    Thanks,
    John

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

Here is the last email I received from Hauppuage.  Maybe it will help you...didn't me:

    REINSTALL THE HVR-1800

    Please complete the following:

Please click on link to download the HCWCLEAR.exe application to remove previous driver and application:
    http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/utils/hcwclear.exe

Run the HCWClear.exe/select total removal and search all INF Files/Reboot computer.

Cancel New Hardware found wizard or tell it to “Ask me again later”

    Click on link: http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/install_cd/cd_4.2.zip

    • Download the file to your computer:
    • Unzip this file to a directory you will remember, such as Desktop
    • Run Setup.exe, from the unzipped directory.
    • Click Step 1. Install Drivers. This will install the base driver. At the completion of the driver install, you should see a message which says Drivers have been updated successfully.
    • Click Step 2. Install WinTV. This will install the WinTV applications, 'middleware', decoders, TV services and other necessary files.

    TMG01
Are you saying that installing WinTV is a requirement for getting QAM in Vista Media Center?  Anyone have thoughts on this?

    Thanks,
    John

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

I am not saying anything as I have not gotten this to work yet.  This is what the email from Hauppuage Tech Support says.  Try it and tell us what you get.

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

I recently had to redo my setup and I reinstalled the plugin and again got it working on my 1600.  From listening to ya'll talk, there is one step I think ya'll are forgeting.  After you get it installed and scaned.  You have to go into TV setup, Set up TV Source, and configure the Antenna.  It will then ask you NTSC or ATSC (antenna or qam).  You should then be able to edit your lineup in the guide editing part of the setup for MCE.  Need more help let me know!

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

I am unable to get it to tune all the local Clear QAM channels coming in on my Comcast feeds.   I know what frequencies my Clear QAM channels are coming in (courtesy WinTV).  Is there a file, registry key, etc.......... I can edit to enter that information?  I get all the Clear QAM channels in WinTV6 and GBPVR.  TIA

This is interesting.  I've been shopping for a vista tv tuner since mine doesn't work properly after upgrading.  I'll definitely be getting the 1600, or 1800.  Hopefully by then all these problems will be worked out.

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

I have the 1800 installed but with no detection of QAM channels through Media Center or WinTV. I get the analog and Over-the-Air channels fine. I ran the setup as instructed and all of the suggestions mentioned in this forum (removals, drivers, software, setups, etc.) but with no detection of QAM. I have the cable coax plugged to the DTV plug on my card.

I called Hauppauge Tech Support and Time Warner Cable and got some info:

    • Time Warner Cable is not encrypting any of their digital or local channels (except for premium channels of course); all should show up in Clear QAM.
    • Hauppauge suggested to install the WinTV and driver version from the UK website. That has a different options when selecting Clear QAM Source under the "Sources" tab. You can basically Cable or Cable HRC (the US version doesn't have any option).
    • There was an older version of 1800 cards (about a year ago) that did not have the QAM enabled. Anything purchased this year is almost certain to have QAM (like mine).

Hope this helps someone; if anybody can send me some hints I will appreciate it a lot. At this point, my first step is to at least get QAM through WinTV or anything. HELP!!!

Well that's just great... I must have one of those older cards  - no QAM on mine either.
Does anybody know if... I was to email them and complain about my 1800 not doing QAM as advertised, without anyway of me proving it is still under warranty to possibly geting this card swapped out with one that lives up to specs?

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

I have three of these HVR-1800 cards instsalled in VMC but no clearQAM.  So, I am using my OTA for the HDTV local stations and an analog STB for the rest of the cable channels...just like I had it with the 3 AverMedia A180 cards they replaced.  I have tried everything Hauppuage told me to do but no luck.  I have read on AVS forum that Verizon FIOS has screwed up their PSID and will be fixing it "soon".  I doubt that but I will just wait for now.  It could be the problem if true. Two of these cards wre replaced by Hauppuage so I doubt they are the earlier versions that do not have QAM activated on the cards.  But...who knows!

This was on Comcast.  I was able to tune ClearQAM on WinTV using the HRC and all "All Frequencies" option when scanning.  Hope it helps

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

I just did a complete harddrive wipe and reinstall.  At first I couldn't get qam to work on WinTV or Media Center using the hauppauge_cd_3.4d1.zip file.  Thanks for posting the link to hauppauge_cd_3.4.2.zip.  When I installed it, restarted, ran the qam plugin software and rebooted, it worked. When I run the digital tv signal strength in vmc I can see which channels have a signal.  If I run WinTV I find that only 2 channels are getting signals right now.  So qam is working again.

On my original setup (pre reinstall) I used the tuner drivers that windows locates online, then ran the qam plugin, and it worked fine.  Then I wanted to install WinTV so I could see what qam channels I was missing and that's when the problems started.  When I used the hauppauge drivers (pre cd_3.4.2) the qam plugin never worked.

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

Where can I find the 3.4.2.zip file?

I just bought a HVR-1250 and I have Vista Ultimate. I have not install any driver or software yet. What do I need to install get QAM using the beta plugin and in what order?

Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

Well using the 4.2 link TMG01 posted fixed the "case 13" errors I was getting while using the plugin.
Now my clear qam channels are mapped but when I go to view them I get a black screen. Eventually, it gives me an error suggesting the signal is too weak or something like that. I have no issues picking up the channels in wintv so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. (

EDIT: I got an email from Hauppage saying they're aware of the issue.

    Side note:
Did you all know Hauppage has a support forum? There's a U.S. section.
