Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

There was once a program called onedemand - this was able to do some stuff with ITV/BBC/4OD.

I dont know what happened to it - but it had some sort of premise for 4OD - may be worth a look?

Once again, thanks for the plugin - I've given it to a few now and they're all using it and so far its all been plain sailing! well done!

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    This application was mentioned on the BBC iPlayer forums at;

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbiplayer/F7331806?thread=4991470

but the moderators blanked out the posts that linked to this forum and to my site for a few days, saying they were checking out the post to see if it violated the house rules. All of the posts are now visible again, so I guess the BBC are happy with what I have done. I was pretty sure that it didn't violate their terms and conditions, but I wasn't sure how happy they would be. I can rest a bit more easily now.

I cant see why it would be a problem, if anything you are helping by making iplayer available to a wider audience (MediaCenter users) - and your not profitting by it - so fair play as far as I am concerned!

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

I was just thinking, would it be possible to add an option to be able to download the hi-def version of a TV programme? (Assuming the user has the BBC iPlayer download manager already installed)
    Thanks.....keep up the good work!

I'd second that in some ways - Although the easiness of streaming is nice - Though the name of iplayer files was a problem last time - they're just numbers (dates?!) rather than names or episodes etc.

Maybe the BBC will someday (Soon I hope) realise there mistakes and actually name the files in a logical way.  I doubt our (Greatest) guy who is devolping the plugin can do anything about it.  Maybe once this plugin is perfected we can nag, nag & nag some more at the BBC to change the naming process of the files (I'm no programmer but I'm sure it can't be that hard to simply change filenames - even use the existing silly numbered system plus the TV programme name)

I thought this would be a quick easy thing to add, but I have spent quite some time now digging in to it, and it's not easy. The BBC have some obscure code for integrating an Active X control with the Kontiki application, that I just can't seem to get working locally. I'll keep looking when I get a chance, but it's not going to be real soon.

I wouldnt put too much effort in to it.
After all we all still have legs to be able to get up and use the BBC's download program; it was just a thought. :)
    Thanks

Congratulations on getting this to work but I have an issue...

Playing starts fine in windowed mode with the video in the centre of the screen and filling about 3/4 of the screen area but when I try to go full screen the video goes smaller and is ofset to the left, the taskbar also becomes visible with the program running along side MCE.

    Elonex Artisan HTPC Case > AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual Core (2.3Ghz) > 4 Gig DDR2 > Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H Motherboard > ATI HD3200 Onboard Graphics > HDMI TV/Audio Output > 2 x Hauppauge 1300 DVB-T Cards

Does the same happen when you use the BBC iPlayer web site? Have you got the latest version of flash (9.0.28.0 or later)?

    Hi,
Any new updates of my favourite plugin?
Personally I'd like this plugin have the native interface of Media Center (but I'm the the devloper so it's not my choice and I wouldnt have a clue how to change it myself)
As always I'd just like to say Nice work and keep it up!!! ;-)

I haven't done anything on it in a while, because I didn't have any changes to make. If there are any suggestions, I'd welcome them.

I did see that C4 have revamped their download content so that it works from just a browser, so I may have a go at adding that as a channel soon - although a quick look at the C4 web site shows that it is nowhere near as well structured as the BBC one, so it may not be as neat.

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    I have made a number of changes to iPlayer MCE;
    1. Added support for Channel 4 Watch Online content - accessible via the channel list
    2. Added a link on the BBC video pages to take you to the native iPlayer page - you can download the content from there if you want the high def version. It's not all remote navigable, but it saves you having to start a browser and search for it again.
    3. Added the launch point to the "TV" menu bar so you don't have to dig as deep to launch it
    4. Plus various other UI fixes
Available to download now from here. You need to uninstall the earlier version then install the latest one.

    Working Perfectly!!!!
At this rate we won't need project Kangaroo (The project which BBC, ITV & Channel 4, etc are currently developing to integrate all channels into one (non-mce) program).

Keep up the Fantastic work :)

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

Is it possible to pause the playback of the iplayer with the MCE remote? My connection speed isn't quite fast enough to stream the video from start to finish, so it would be nice to let it download in advance when in pause, so that I can play it without jitters.

    Cheers,

    Jon
