i will coordinate with Pete to graphically improve the full 7 day weather.  i am bored this weekend, so it should get done.  I am also going to try and add a text forcast for the next day or so.

The alternate solution is, just buy a bigger TV :)  On my 42" 1080LCD, at 1920 x 1080 I can have the OEM logo window display 3 days of weather with no issue :)  Too bad 100" screens are so expensive lol.

I found this for creating the service via .Net, http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-5784748.html and it also mention's adding a timer to the code to get it to start/stop when necessary.  Are you already looking at doing this or should I go ahead and try it?

    I'll help however I can.

Thankyou dravor. I have already created a service. The problem is that it fails to connect to the internet to get eh weather. I'll have a look through that articale and give it a go. One thing i have found out though is we need to use the System Threading timer and not the timer from the IDE.

That is odd, running it under Local System it should have the permissions to connect.

I have a little problem with Vista4CastConfig, I run my system at 720p and the config form is just too long to fit on screen. Strangely dragging it up a bit doesn't help as the form is cut off short. I guess .NET is capping to the maximum viewable size. This means I don't get the save and load buttons.

I managed to save my config in the end by blind tabbing to the invisible button! Could the form be rearranged a bit or perhaps a scroll bar added?

P.S. Any chance of a no logo option? It ends up just being a splodge anyway.

Can you get a screen shot of the config program please. What is the resolution of your screen? No one else has mentioned this yet. It sounds like you are running the wrong resolution for your screen. Which screen do you have? I trust you are running the correct resolution but i just want to check.

Sorry but the logo has to be there. Its part of the terms within weather.com's SDK.

Re: Vista4Cast V1.2; Weather on vista start page.

I can get a shot later but I have just realised why it is probably happening. I have a Panasonic plasma, my vertical resolution is set to 720, but I also have my DPI set to 120 to make the O/S usable at 10 feet. The length of the config form gets restricted to 720 but the large DPI pushes the button elements off the bottom.

Could the logo have a transparency slider which ranges from 0 - 100? ;-)

OK here is a shot to show the problem:

    Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

As you can see the form is cut off short at 720 pixels before the Load, Save, Exit buttons. (The top is missing because I have dragged the dialog up to clear the taskbar)

    Hi IT Troll
    I see your problem. I use 1920 x 1080 so i didn't know this problem existed.

I have had to reformat my MCE PC due to buying a new TV tuner card (which isn't working correctly, i digress). Anyway it turns out you don't need .NET 3.5 so i have removed that text and the link, i have also made the setting section a bit slimmer so it should now fit your screen, hopefully.

Is there any news on getting the service to auto update the weather?

Just thought I'd check in :-)

    Hi Mark
I have been concentrating on getting the extended weather bit sorted. I'm getting there but slowly. I am doing it in MCML. I made a breakthough with it yesterday but i can't give really give any indication on timescales yet.

As for the service, i have done a windows task tray version that does the same as the service, i've been testing it over the last week.I think i have ironed out most/all of the wrinkles.
