    Re: Multi Monitor support.

Sorry guys, I was on vacation for about 2 weeks, and I've been catching up on work stuff... I'll try to answer questions now - if I miss something let me know Smile [:)]  I also appologize in advance for not making regular posts, I'm traveling around a bit over the next couple of months, so my posting will be sporadic for a little while.

    TTN:

That was perfect. I only have one problem. When VMC starts, it is only startet in a small windows. I then have to click on the MCE Multi Mon icon i the taskbar an choose FullScreen to get it to fill the whole TV screen.

Is there a way to always get it to lauch in fullscreen?

If the /fullscreen parameter isn't working, then no... I know there is some bugginess with this when run at startup, so I will try to troubleshoot it for the next version.

    Vinez:

Hi apologize and correct me for my english, Because right now i am using ASUS R2HV UMPC, isit possible or by how i can output dual screen with VGA and TV Out Tuner(which is Yellow colour alike headset port). Because i was hoping that i can do normal surfing(which is output to my Monitor through VGA) while watching video (Which can output to TV from the TV Tuner port).

My Asus R2Hv do have an output function call "Intel Dual Display Clone" which can output dual screen e.g. Monitor + TV, Notebook + monitor or Notebook + TV.  The thing is how can i watch video in TV and surfing/chatting in my Monitor.

There should be a way to select to Extend your desktop rather than to clone it (in the display properties for your computer).

    kendrome:

Are you using GDI to do the "Restore" command on Media Center? I'm trying to create a program to stop Media Center from going full screen, and I can reposition the media center window easily, and I've been able to get rid of the border/title bar. But I've been unable to get Media Center from Full Screen to Windowed mode. If you could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

For the "Restore" command I am actually checking the state of the current window, and then applying the appropriate action to it.  I haven't been able to find a way to prevent full screen, but by checking the state I can see if it is the traditional full screen mode, or if it is maximized using my app.

    scrambler:

    ...

Is it compatible with XP MCE

I understand you need to launch MC using the App desktop icon, but can you use the Remote Green button to lauch MC through the App?

Yes it is compatible with XP, but no, you can't currently use the green button on the remote for it - although, if you are using a 3rd party remote, or if you have hacked the drivers using something like HIP, then you could remap the remote button to run the app.  I have been looking into another solution for this, but nothing to announce yet.

Glad you like it so far cw-kid, Smile [:)]

If you double click the tray icon (rather than selecting "Launch..." from the menu) then it will open in full screen on the default monitor.

For the next version (haven't started work on this yet) I'd like to add command line parameters so you can have a shortcut to do a specific task (e.g. open Media Center on screen 1 in fullscreen).  I'd also like to see about capturing the remote commands and make it so they are always sent to the Media Center window (if it's open).  I've looked briefly at: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms996387.aspx and http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb417079.aspx- but I just don't have time right now to work on this...

If someone else wants to figure out this side of it, I'll see what I can do to implement it in this app.  It seems and-81 from the MediaPortal forums might have a way to do it, but I haven't tried to contact him yet about it... http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mce-replacement-plugin-165/ir-server-suite-media-center-35090/

Hi Ryan. Just wondering if you have done any new work on this applicaiton recently?

The chap who is coding the ngRC application is doing some interesting stuff with sending remote commands to media center even if the media center app is not currently the focus which I thought was very good. Not sure how much any of this relates to what you were wanting to do but take a look at his news feed. http://www.olphro.de/wordpress/news/

    Nope, nothing recently. Sad [:(]

Thanks for the link though, it looks like that could be a good start.

    Re: Multi Monitor support.

Is it possible to switch VMC from one monitor to another from within VMC using the remote?

I have two monitors on my PC, a 22" on my desk and a 19" close to my bed. Ideally I'd like to switch media center from one to the other without having to use a keyboard or mouse.

I guess it would need to be written as a VMC addin so that an extra menu option appeared somewhere inside the media center interface to allow this to work.

Does such a thing already exist anywhere?

    Thanks

    Edward

I don't know of anything for this...

I've thought about doing some command line parameters in the program for doing this, then you would either need to map a button on the remote to do that, or you/someone could make an icon for Media Center to run the program with the parameter to change screens.

bright white border?  I haven't seen this.

Can you post a screenshot?  Also a few other questions:

    1. Are you running Vista?
    2. Do you have the TV Pack installed?
    3. What video card to you have?

    Re: Multi Monitor support.

    1. I'm running XP
    2. No clue if I have the TV pack installed (going to bed soon so I'll look into it tomorrow after work)
    3. Nvidia 512mb 7800gtx

As for the border, I thought it was normal because I also tried mcemultimon and I still get the white border. I'll look into it some more tomorrow myself, but right now I need to get to bed and get up for work in the morning. Thanks for replying so quickly.

The screenshot I took can be seen HERE

Edit: not sure if you can make it out clearly due to the white background.. I'll fix it tomorrow.. sorry

    Re: Multi Monitor support.

    Ok, thanks for the screenshot...

It looks like it isn't removing the window frame properly.  You won't have the TV Pack - it is Vista only.  I have only tested this on Vista machines (and that's really what I made it for), so I never tried it on XP.  I have an XP machine somewhere that I'll dig up and see if I can do some testing on it.  Not sure if it will be hard to fix or not, but we'll see.

    Ryan

I have seen this error a few times before when using MCE Multi Mon.

However it's happened twice today both times when I click on Multi Mon and Close Media Center the error appears and then the Multi Mon icon from the system tray disappears.

    Have you seen this before?

    Thanks

I'm trying to replicate the error now...

Are you running 32-bit, or 64 bit?  Also, does it do it every time you select close from the menu?  Lastley, do you remember it ever happening doing something other than "Close Media Center" from the menu?

    32 bit here,

I'm not sure to be honest I will have to monitor it and report back to you. I have seen the error a few times before but I never paid any attention to it before I just clicked on it to get rid of it.

    I understand that.  Smile [:)]

I haven't been able to replicate it yet on 64 bit (that's what most of my systems are); but I'll test it out on a 32 bit system soon and see what I can find.

    Re: Multi Monitor support.

Is it possible to have VMC in fullscreen on two monitors of different display resolutions simultaniously and then toggle between VMC and the desktop on one of the monitors?

I have a 1080p tv in the livingroom and 1680x1050 monitor on the other side of the wall in the kitchen.  I'd like to keep VMC maximized on the monitor in the kitchen all the time and be able to toggle between fullscreen VMC and the desktop.  Can this app do this, or will VMC only be on one monitor at a time?

You would normally use this app with an extended desktop. I.e. VMC runs on your TV which would be the secondary monitor and you then have your normal PC desktop on the computers primary LCD monitor.

If you clone the desktop instead it should be possible to have VMC on both monitors. You might need to use Ultramon as well which handles dual monitor setups running different resolutions.
