Re: New TV archive plugin for VMC.

Looking at the main menu screenshot, I'm not quite loving the spiral-in and spiral-out effect, but the plug-in concept is great. How about something more traditional like a vertical version of the OSX taskbar, where the selected item becomes bigger?

Re: New TV archive plugin for VMC.

    Damn it.

Ok, I received a PM from someone the other day offering help with SQL. I'd like to take you up on that Smile [:)]

I figured I'd cracked it, but I tried running the installer on a fresh box only to find out the SQLExpress server I managed to include in the bootstrap was incompatible with Vista. It needs you to upgrade to SP2 after installation,  which is fine except for the fact my setup.msi then fails as it cannot connect to the newly installed SQLExpress server.

    So, if someone can provide help on one of the following two scenarios, please do;

    • Including the latest SQLExpress server as part of my WiX package
    • Providing a BootStrapper which will install the latest (Vista compatible) SQLExpress server

That'll teach me for running against a "full-blown" SQL server on my "basement" server whilst developing (although, I'm sure I've had Express installed on one of my desktops before, without having to bother about SP2 ... is there a later release perhaps?).

New TV is a great idea and MCE sorely needs a plug like this.

But man, I agree. That spiral thing is just trying too hard and it doesn't work visually.

For some examples, take a look at these implementations of a TV Series plugin from Media Portal:

    http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/original_thread_mp_tvseries-t12720.html (scroll down a bit)

    or

    http://img297.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tvseriesfanartbb9.jpg

    or

    http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5097&d=1173366311

Another suggestion (also from Media Portal,) is to hide episode summary for unwatched episodes, to prevent spoilers. They highlight watched episodes, so you know what you've already watched and when you get to a series, actually jump to the first unwatched episode.

    Thanks for the plug!

Re: New TV archive plugin for VMC.

woodrbe: Mail on the way. I did manage to sort it by DIYing a manual bootstrapper for SP2, but I'd still like some input on other issues.

Musictype: Personally I quite like the spiral, but that's what this beta is all about. If I get enough comments asking to change it to a more 'traditional' menu I'd certainly do that. One very simple option here would be to have two 'main menus' and let the user choose which one (s)he'd like to use. Fanart is not something I will ever implement, simply due to how VMC handles scaling, 4:3/16:9 screens and layout  (well, and the fact I don't personally like it Stick out tongue [:P]).

Anyhow, if you're on the betalist you're more than welcome to come with comments on the current layout once you've played around with myTV for a bit Big Smile [:D]

Re: New TV archive plugin for VMC.

ahelseth, I am basing my comments only on the image posted, so I might be shooting from the hip:-)

I've kind of switched to Media Portal for the last three or four weeks, to a large extent because of he lack of a decent TV series plugin for MCE, and because of what I feel is the cluttered Main Menu in Vista MCE, which just keep getting more cluttered....

But, I'd love to get in on the beta (and will re-enable MCE, which right now is disabled through MMC:-) Maybe it will make me get back to MCE:-))))

Re: New TV archive plugin for VMC.

I'm looking forward to seeing this move forward because, like Musictype, I've had to move to MediaPortal for my TV Series but VMC handles television much better for me than TV Engine so I'm stuck jumping back and forth... so much fun!

Re: New TV archive plugin for VMC.

Everyone for whom I had an emailaddress should now have received the link.

There may or may not be a problem with my mailserver at the moment, in which case simply keep replies here or on the myTV site. Thanks.

    Awesome, very excited...

    First error, during install:

"Error -2147217900: failed to execute SQL string, error detail: The server principal 'BUILTIN\Users' already exists., SQL key: SqlScript1 SQL string: CREATE LOGIN [BUILTIN\Users] FROM WINDOWS EXEC sp_grantdbaccess 'BUILTIN\Users' Exec sp_addrolemember 'db_owner', 'BUILTIN\users'

Re: New TV archive plugin for VMC.

Ok, that went better - the initial extractor didn't call the installer, just extracted them (defaulted to desktop), I ran setup.exe and that seemed to run without errors.

Haven't run the app yet, just wanted to report that the previous bug is gone now.

Off to work for a bit, I will report more findings later...

Re: New TV archive plugin for VMC.

I recieved the same error as moontan.  I realized the SQL install wasn't being called, so I ran the other installed inside the zip.  This installed the SQL & then moved on to the myTV plugin.  All went well this time.

I assume I made a mistake when typing in the location of the folder I wanted to add.  I believe I left the words in the input box as well as typing my address.  When I clicked "enter" nothing happened, as I was expecting a confirmation prompt. I tried a couple more times, then exited out and tried to re-enter myTV, at which time I was told there was an error and I would return to the main menu.

I tried removing myTV & the mySQL, but unpon re-installing I was told the table already existed and the install couldn't continue.  Any directions on how to manually remove the table & more details of how to enter my folders path?

Re: New TV archive plugin for VMC.

Just tried to install the new version. These are the following errors I receive.

I get this error when I try to launch the setup that has the old XP Package Icon

"Prerequisite check for system component SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 failed with the following error message:
"This version of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is not supported for the current processor architecture."

See the setup log file located at 'C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\VSDC0DF.tmp\install.log' for more information."

And this is the error I get mid-way through the installation if I try to install from the other Setup file

"Error -2147467259: failed to create SQL database:
    myTV, error detail: unknown error."

I hope either of these are helpful in diagnosing the problem. I am using Vista Ultimate x64 edition. If you need any more information just ask ;)

Edit:// Away from the above, I was just wondering if the SQL database is being such a problem couldn't its functions be reproduced by using .ini files and having the pluggin itself handle all the reading and writing to those files? And then keep those files in a central location inside a folder or .zip file which could be easily removed or edited if required.
