    twynne:
No joy here with the latest version and Vista Home Premium. Any attempt to remote desktop just fails - no error message at all.

Home premium doesn't support RDP at all.

For those just coming into this thread, I've posted a summary guideover at MissingRemote with all the steps mentioned in the several pages necessary to make this work. Remember, this only works on Business & Ultimate versions of MCE.

    Microsoft will be pleased.

Once again, being a cheapskate and only having Home Premium I lose out - I am a loser! :(

So, c'mon someone get rd working on Home Premium....

Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

awww Gordon, c'mon now! The problem there is that I've never seen a hack or anything to ever get a "Home" version of even XP to support Remote Desktop at all.

Best bet would be to try selling your copy & get Ultimate i'd think?

Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

Now here's something annoying (to me at least).

I just purchased another MCE 2005 a few months ago and we heavily use remote desktop on a regular basis between our 6 MCE 2005 systems (not multi-user at the moment though).  I always use remote desktop for all system maintenance, especially on the kids computers while they are asleep and also use it whenever I want to modify scheduled recordings if I'm not in the family/home theater room.

This latest MCE 2005 includes an express upgrade to the "equivalent Vista version" when it becomes available.  My primary purpose for purchasing it was actually to purchase the equivalent Vista version.  My intention is, when it arrives, to install Vista on the main HTPC - the one that I remote desktop into the most by far.  Now I find out that the express upgrade only gets you Vista Home Premium - which does not include any remote desktop functionality at all.

So Microsoft's upgrade to the "equivalent OS" is actually a downgrade in functionality.  I'll have to pay another $200 to upgrade this Vista to get the same functionality I have now - or just keep using the old operating system that was intended to be a stop gap until Vista was released.

Why would the equivalent OS be missing this core functionality?
