Re: Vista Home Premium for $50 - promotion

I was told I would receive a call within 24-48 hours from Microsoft but of course I'm not that patient. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard any more info about what they are going to do to fix this problem.

I have sent a couple of emails to the address you posted above, but no response so far.

I never got a response either, but soon after I sent that email I was able to go out and purchase my product keys. They were invalid though so I'm still not able to install Vista on my other PCs. I did find out that the keys they gave me were for Windows Server 2003. I would say that's unbelievable that they would do something like...but we are talking about Microsoft here and nothing seems to surprise me anymore.

You can install on the other 2 PCs - just don't enter a product key.  You then can select the version that you are buying (in this case, Home Premium), and complete the install.  You have 30 days to enter a valid product key.  That's what I did.

I thought about doing that but for some reason I'm afraid it won't work right...go figure. I think I might try that anyway though.

Ok, here's the nightmare.  Bought Vista Ultimate full edition - clean installed on my main system.  Went online and bought two more license keys for $105 after tax - tried to upgrade my other machines (each with full versions of xp on them)  and the reg keys are invalid.  I've got receipts, order numbers and have practically memorized the keys by now, and all MS says (via Mr. Prabhu) is "the vista team is working on it".  Just give me the darned keys man - don't take a week thinking about it!

So far out $105 (non-refundable) for two keys that are invalid!

That's pretty much where we all are right now.  Don't forget, though, that you can install on your two Home Premium machines without product keys.  I'm sure they will get this fixed within 30 days, so there isn't much risk of doing it that way.

As another poster above mentioned - it didn't work when I tried it that way.  Ended up having to wipe the partition and reinstall XP home and SP2 just to get back to function.  The upgrade stopped just before the setup screen for Vista (ie, at the last possible moment).  Krishna at MS-India swears he will "escalate my issue to the highest level".  Holding breath (not).

That's odd - I don't recall anyone else posting that they had difficulty installing without a product key.

If you want more than the 30 days, then at the end of the 30 days run this command slmgr -rearm then reboot, and you have another 30 days. doing this you can get a maximum of 120 days trial :)

I was able to purchase 2 copies of home premium with 1 of my beta keys.

Both the key's I got from the order don't work.   Hopefully I'll get valid ones soon.
