I tried PowerDVD and I can't seem to get all the speakers working, only the front speakers are working in MCE

    Any idea?

Re: Wicked Stutter in Vista MCE Build 5728

Incase anyone is wondering, I went back to Nvidia PureVideo Decoder and the Live TV picture is far better, also I have no more stutter.

To help anyone who still has stutter this is my final config.

    Vista RC2 5744
RC2 Drivers that came with Vista 5744
VMDC (to set the Nvidia PureVideo Decoder as default)
    DivX Codec
    AC3filter

If I can help contact me

Re: Wicked Stutter in Vista MCE Build 5728

    Solved.

Under the suspicion that it was drive activity and not anything to do with drivers or codecs, I started running some performance monitors while playing video in media player and MCE.

Sure enough, every 6 seconds a spike in drive activity.

Went into device manager, pulled up my hard drive:

There's an option called 'Advanced Hard Drive Performance' and it was unchecked (presumably some sort of safety feature blah blah blah in case of power loss blah blah)

I enabled it, and boom.  Hard drive thrashing gone.  Stutter gone.  Video playback is perfect.

That HDD fix is amazing, do it anyway (unless your in to audio creation) huge boots to performance, doesnt seem to work on SATA drives so perhaps they are already enabled by default

So, heres a wee list of things that apparently have fixed this issue of stuttering

Disable / remove wireless network card

Enable HDD setting in device manager

Change Codecs with VMDC, powerdvd / purevideo seems to work

Install  RC1 ATI drivers turn on hardware acceleration, then uninstall ATI RC1 driver

Re: Wicked Stutter in Vista MCE Build 5728

I think it's certain SATA controllers because I have an SATA drive and that option was there for me.  I suspect it's disabled by default in the interest of Microsoft of C.Y.A. but given the boost to performance it should be enabled by default.

With regards to the 'hardware acceleration', where is that option located in the ATI catalyst control center?  There's tons of options there but none of them are labled 'hardware acceleration'.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Wicked Stutter in Vista MCE Build 5728

Fire up CCC, select the advanced settings

Then in tree  find video, then all settings, at the very bottom you will see WMV acceleration, or something to that effect, dispite what it says about media player, it effects all video play back

Has anyone been getting this strange glittery thing in white spots on the screen?

Kinda looks like snow but only in white spots

Thats from the Nvidia Purevideo, already been though all this already.  Nvidia Purevideo has some kind of issue with the RC2 vista drivers, so I just run the Vista decoder and all is good...no stutters, clear Live TV and no other issues.

I hear what you're saying but my stutter went away when I added the Nvidia Purevideo decoder.  PowerDVD wouldn't allow my 5.1 speaker channels to work, only the front speakers were working.

Any other way to get rid of it other than moving away from nvidia?

    Anyway around this?

Re: Wicked Stutter in Vista MCE Build 5728

Not that I know of, I don't get any stutter at all anymore since I installed RC2 so nvidia purevideo really does nothing for me.  As for 5.1 I have a NF4 mobo so getting 5.1 sound to work nicely is like pulling teeth so I just use 2 channel until better drivers arrive.

    OK

I was able to get 5.1 channels to work, I have the Soundblaster Audigy LS, using the vista drivers, but to get all channels to work I had to config it in Nvidia.

I wish I could get it working with no stutter using the Vista decoder, I actually think the picture is better with the Vista decoder.

Re: Wicked Stutter in Vista MCE Build 5728

I'm having the "wicked stutter every six seconds" problem too. Just wanted to add my experiences...
    darren9075:
Install  RC1 ATI drivers turn on hardware acceleration, then uninstall ATI RC1 driver

This didn't fix (or improve) the problem for me.
    darren9075:
That HDD fix is amazing, do it anyway (unless your in to audio creation) huge boots to performance, doesnt seem to work on SATA drives so perhaps they are already enabled by default

This didn't fix (or improve) the problem for me. (This is an option for SATA drives, BTW.)
    darren9075:
Disable / remove wireless network card

    I don't have a wireless network card.
    darren9075:
Change Codecs with VMDC, powerdvd / purevideo seems to work

I tried PureVideo, but this didn't fix (or improve) the problem for me.

So, the problem isn't any of these. It's a more fundamental problem with RC2.

Well maybe its all of those issues plaus other, maybe one or another issue has be the cause on different PC's

Right now I I use VMCD to change my default Decoder back to the RC2 decoder, I'll get the stutter and as soon as I return back to the Nvidia Decoder, it goes away, so I'm assuming we've found multiple issues that cause the stutter and your issue is just one that hasn't been completely discovered yet.

Give some of our know results a second try, it took me a couple time to get it working properly but once it did and I went back to be sure that was the cause each time I went back to the RC2 decoder, I get the stuttering again.

Hope you find your solution soon, it was very annoying for all of us I'm sure

For me, I know it's an RC2 defect, since I've never had a problem with MCE2005, Vista Beta 2, Vista RC1 or Vista RC1+.

Thanks! I've uninstalled the ATI RC1 driver, so I'm back to stutter-free SD, but  I can't watch HD without Microsoft's decoder and/or video driver crashing. <sigh> Let's hope for an RC3 or RC4 that starts working better than MCE2005.

Re: Wicked Stutter in Vista MCE Build 5728

How the heck do you guys get divx to playback in MCE. I am using the Koepi codecs and divx plays fine in wmp but not in mce.
Secondly my powerdvd7 wouldn't install? Any guesses why?

Lastly, what is "VMCD" I have nvidia puredecoder but don't know how to set it,
    thanks!
