I did that, adding multiple disks to one DB entry.  It works, but my comment about the interface being obtrusive is regarding all 15+ buttons (1 per disk) that are displayed.  I think a scrollable list view that displayed say 7 -10 at would work better for what I'm looking for.  Just my opinion, similiar to what Movie Collector does for DB entries with multiple links, which is what I use now but find the interface a bit cumbersome.

Well we dont import that way anymore, the in code version of the mymovies importer has been changed to do folder scanning. So you just point it at the base directory and it goes through finding all your mymovies.xml files and loading them. Automated scanning is coming but as you can imagine, its a large and sometimes painful process given that no 2 people seem use the same folder structure. We are in the process now of creating windows services for things such as database management and transcoding services. One of these will be a folder monitor service that will be able to locate and add/remove movies from the database directly without user interaction. Once that is complete it will add/remove titles to the UI as they are found. This will not be a part of the next official release but very like a large part of the release after that.
Is there an easier way for me to update my OML library then loading MM collection manager then opening OML editor and manually scanning the exported MM.xml to OML? Thank for a great looking interface. My extender should arrive in the next couple of days...can't wait to see how well OML works with that!! Thanks for all the hard work guys!!

Also, for those 2 disk movie...is it possible to merge the two into a continuos play. Maybe by editing the .vob structure??? I tried to do it once before but wasn't able to get it to work just by renumbering the .vob files. ie: VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB then next .vob file from side 2 would be changed from VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_4.VOB and so on...

Hope that make some sort of sence?? Thanks!!

I hope to have this fixed very soon. I'm restructuring the details screen with pivots (tabs) and all the links will be in its own tab. This has been on my priority list for a while but I had no computer for a few weeks.

I agree with you, taranu is working to redesign this screen, hopefully we'll have something "nicer" to deal with this type of situation

Yes, sorta, in the current daily builds the mymovies importer has been changed to a folder importer, so you dont have to export a large xml file from mymovies.  Simply point the mymovies importer as the base folder that all your mymovies files are located (i.e. all the movies you have loaded into mymovies) and it will scan for the individual mymovies.xml files and load each one.  Alternately you can use our file/dvd scanner importer which will given a folder to look through scan for all valid files types that OML supports and load each one as a movie entry.  This is great for dvds, somewhat raw for other file types but will continue to grow in ability and strength and likely end up being our the primary source of our automated scanning/loading engine once it is written.

Not yet but we do play to add a flag to movie items that says each disk should be played back to back.  If you happen to have a wpl playlist for all the items you can use that file as your only "disk" and OML will currently play each entry in turn from that wpl file.  Hopefully this "auto playlist" flag will get added soon.  Very likely prior to the next official release.  Its not that its difficult to do, just that we are all working hard on other parts of OML at the moment.

Do you think it's possible to create a batch file to run the file/dvd scanner both manually and every say 12 hours with vista task scheduler? Since MM automatically scans and loads new movies found on a drive this may work nicely. I remember seeing a command line type of dos application in the OML directory...not sure??

    Hi,

I'm just seeking to confirm that OML stores all movie metadata and other information including file paths to the movies, in a file named C:\ProgramData\OpenMediaLibrary\oml.dat.

    Is this correct?

Better then that, we are building a windows service that will do this with many configurable options.  This will likely be get a lot of developer attention after the next official beta is released.  Right now we're finishing up work on our own transcoding library (that runs as a service along side the primary collection manager).  We're starting to flesh out the process of using WCF to all the db editor to be run/used from any machine on the network since the collection management will be a wcf complient service, the plugin will likely also move to being just a semi-dump client to this service as well.  So... lots of stuff in the works, this a good idea, we've been discussing it ourselves and have a great many plans for it.

    Picky UI request.

Could the settings tab be moved all the way to the right of the selection bar? It would be nice to go right to the genre, actor, year filters first. Thank you!!

I'll look into this.  Im working on a feature that will let you select which filters appear in that list at the moment, I'll see if I can put something togeather that lets you order the ones you activate as well.

I'm really loving the progress that is being made with Open Media Library. I've been using it to seperately manage my 'personal media' collection with great success. Currently I have to use the Settings page to hide the Movie Library strip when I'm not perusing my video collection. While this method works there are a LOT of extra button pushes required.

I would really love to see a password protection feature added to the program. I just need an optional feature that prompts for a configurable 4-digit pin number when I attempt to open the program. I have NEVER seen this feature on any other MCE video player and I think it would really make OML stand out from the others.

Oh and while I'm already begging...one other feature that I would love to see is the ability to play movies directly from the main title selection screen. DVD Library, My Movies and vmcNetflix all allow you to simply press the remote's Play button on the currently highlighted movie thumbnail to start the movie.

Thanks for listening...keep up the great work!

I requested a "Hide my porn from the kids" feature over at the official forums. The response was:

I think we have basically decided to hook into the pre-existing VMC parental controls, which basically lets you select a max rating and a never this rating settings. In order to get past this you would have to enter a pin number. We can/will likely offer the ability to hide titles that do not fall under the given set of parental restrictions.

I'm not sure this approach will cover the specific need, though, unless it is multi-layered. What happens if you want to unlock that R movie when you have company over? Suddenly all your porn will be visible, too. Depending on who is visiting, that could lead to some interesting moments. "Mom, dad... we were supposed to be watching Braveheart... I'm not going to watch DP-stravaganza #4 with you!"

The best option I've seen so far is Squirrel Stash, I just don't like having to create encrypted virtual drives to store the files.

Is is possible yet, to put our DVD and bluray content into separate categories.  So when we are browsing our library we can show all our DVD\rips and HD content separately

also can we make custom categories, or custom genre's.. so we can group lets say all "kids movies" etc..

You can filter by Video Format right now to show all your DVDs, Blueray, etc

You can add Tags with DB Editor and filter by Tags in the UI. You can then tag kids movies "Kid Movies",  etc.

You can have the start page be the Format page or the Tags page, Genres, etc.
