Re: Open Media Library - souce posted
statious: When I think about it having read your thoughts, I would actually like to see a two-program solution, each doing the best at their respective area.
This.
OML = the best thing out there for movies on VMC. If you overextend the goal, you'll hurt yourself in the long run. Keep OML for movies, and either let others worry about TV, or make it a separate application so that those of us who have no desire to let our TV shows mingle with our movies aren't being forced to deal with features & bloat we don't need.
Once you've got OML under control, if you want to create an OTL (Open TV Library) project, I have no doubts it would be just as fantastic as OML... I just feel it should be kept seperate.

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted
OML keeps saying VIDEO_TS folders are files - is there a way to fix this besides changing them manually? I used My Movies to import the films and My Movies works great

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted
When I installed this application I got an error saying "library is not working" then when I went to say ok it either already checkmarked "dont display this application" or it checkedmarked as I was moving my mouse.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck, any help as to how to get this back?

Well personally I would like OML to encompass EVERYTHING. I know the TV area needs huge work, music needs huge work, online videos need huge work, this to me is all "media". I think if we ever did go the tv route that it should be included in OML but maybe split the current version of OML off to OML-Movies and then you could also have a OML-TV but would be nice if "OML" could have an interface that was shared among all of it for searching, status, etc.
But again I don't think we'll even discuss tv that much in the near future. Our plan is to get everything going solid with the movie aspect first and then add all this extra fluffy bunny stuff after that, if ever...
just my opinion.

I think all members of the OML team feel this way. However, the fear is that this app would turn into a jack of all trades, and not a master of any. There are some great plugins for VMC out there, but many fall short due to the developers lack of time, or trying to go too big and do too much.
I think once OML comes out of beta status, and we have a 1.0 build.... then it's time to look at the rest. In theory most of the OML source could be copied to make a Open TV Library application, or possibly roll everything into one bigger application.
It just won't all happen at once.

While it sounds nice to have an "all-in-one", single entry point app, it's just not practical. Unless you have menus within OML to separate Movies from TV from Music, you'll have to browse through your entire collection of everything when you just want to find a movie to watch. How does that make sense from a usability/user friendly perspective? Once you've branched it off to have different menus within the plugin, how does that differ from different menu options on the VMC menu?
In addition, having a 200-300 movie library is going to increase response times enough as it is... add several seasons of several TV shows, each with 12-22 episodes per season to handle, and response times are going to start becoming a huge annoyance factor. It doesn't matter how well you can program it, that is going to crawl like a snail for anyone with a moderate size collection. Those of us with large collections will find it unusable. Even if we do like what we see, we'll have to find solutions that don't break our systems.
I'm not disagreeing that OML should encompass everything... it SHOULD, and as I've said, I have no doubts that whatever the OML team decides to take on, they will do excellent work. I'm simply saying that it should be modularized so that the individual parts can work in harmony without tripping over each other and causing bigger issues than necessary.

Will OML play ripped Blu-ray movies via an XBOX360 Extender?

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted
The best way I can see that one could make a OTL or OM(ovie)L, is to simply rename Open Media Library to Open Movie Library, and then create a new Open Media Library that is nothing but a page where you can choose which of the three libraries you want to launch.
- Open TV Library - Open Movie Library - Open Music Library

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted
All you need to do is create different apps, but let them communicate with each other. Meaning, at the top, there is a menu choice of Movies or TV, since they don't mesh well together because of different size banners. During a search of an actor or director, results could come up from both though. This would allow a user to install on app independently of each other, but let them still feel as one to the user if they wanted.
Personally, I would want them to be totally separate apps with separate installs.

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted
First of all, thank you so much for such a great app. With the latest release the UI looks fantastic!
I do have one problem, and it may be my computer. Whenever I hold down the right or left arrow key to scroll through the movie covers it just hangs there until I let go then jumps to wherever it was when i stop. It's almost as if it is too fast. VMC Netflix does the same thing. However, DVD Library does not whenever i hold the arrow keys down it scrolls through the movies whithout hanging up. Like I said it could be my computer. What might be nice if there was an option in UI setup page for scrolling speed. That way even if my PC could keep up maybe i don't want it to go that fast, maybe it's to fast for me to see whats going on. You know what i mean?
Anyway thanks again for all of you guys' hard work it has certainly paid off the app is great.

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted
Another feature that might be nice would be able to scroll left/right (back or forward in the movie listings) when looking at the movie details level. Just an idea.

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted
I'm having the exact same issue. Scrolling is impossible, I have to go movie, by movie.
The Vista DVD library does this pretty well though.
I'm also wondering about the ability to move the position of the selected title. It seems you can only move it up and down. Something more like the regular dvd library would be nice.
Also, something I noticed is that when you have the movie details option on, it's a real pain to browse going to the left, as you can't see any of the titles that are coming up, just the current ones. This was easily fixed for me though, by removing the detail option though.

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted
Why are you trying to scroll so fast? If you are scrolling fast to get to a particular movie, then why not use Jump-In-List? To use JIL, just use the numerical keypad to start typing the name of the title you want (like a cell phone text) and it will start jumping to the first movie that matches your input.

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted
Because sometimes you don't know what you want to watch, you want just scroll through and see what catches your eye. Plus, when you have a three year old and she says she wants to watch a "moobie" you scroll through till she says "yeah that one, I want to watch (insert kids movie she's watched a hundred times already here)"
