Re: New Video Browser Plugin Feature Request

    Hi Eddy,

Here you go, I have created a pack of my images in a small rapidshare download (3.5mb) for you and anyone else that would like to use them, there are a few variations on some topics to give you a choice of images and I even did a couple of exercise ones for you, hope they prove usefull...

    http://rapidshare.com/files/169359831/Olywas_Image_Pack.rar.html

Obviously you just need to pick the ones you want - place them in the relevant folder(s) and rename them to folder.jpg - let me know what you think. I'm gonna post these on the VB board also and if people like them I may consider doing a batch for the Genres when I get the time.

    Regards,

    Olywa

Thank you very much Olywa, and especial thanks for the specific extras you included on top of those on your system!

I will get them tried out later on today.

    Cheers,
    Eddy

Re: New Video Browser Plugin Feature Request

    I have two requests:

1.)Please make this software more user-friendly!!! I spent no less than 4 hours figuring out all the ins and outs of the necessity of Virtual Folders (text files). I am fairly quick when it comes to code-solving, but this was just too tough for its market. There should be a place inside of Video Browser the first time you open it and under the options menu to specify the folders where you keep media. Since your whole idea is to have the ability to show a "TV Library", "Movie Library", "American TV", etc., you should just have a place in the options (or a separate settings program under Program Files) where you can specify the folder to monitor and what type of files it holds (i.e. "Kids Movies") This would allow the vast majority of VMC users to easily integrate and use the Video Browser software, and I think that you would have a LOT more community interest at that point.

2.)Include some stock images for all of the genres and folder types (Kids Movies, TV, Movies, etc.) It would not be terribly difficult, and you could put them in such that they could be enabled or disabled from the options menu (not through the config file)

These are just my critical thoughts on an otherwise WONDERFUL program. CHEERS! I hope my info helps, that's why I'm sharing it!

Re: New Video Browser Plugin Feature Request

    Hi jakewill,

I'm not sure if your post was aimed at me but just in case I'm not affiliated with the software or the developer. I merely created some images for use with it :)

But in response to your points I personally think the software if very user friendly - using virtual folders is a little fiddly but the software is a 'work in progress' and will get better as Sam andd the guys work on it. Placing short-cuts in you 'videos' folder works well for people (like me) who have lots of media in different locations. And there is lots of help available on the Video Browser forum here...   http://bbs.wasnotwas.com/

As VB is now open source there are also several guys working on it to make bug fixes and add new features - you might want to submit your requests formerely via their google code site...  http://code.google.com/p/videobrowser/downloads

Regarding the genres pack I do agree with you there - stock images would be nice but there are lot's of people using the software and can create images as I did and make them available - you are welcome to use my Video Library screen images a couple of posts back for your initial screen if they are useful and I have just put together a full pack of genre images with simple instructions to use them in a post over on the vb forum here: http://bbs.wasnotwas.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=280

For those that want them you can get my set here: http://rapidshare.com/files/170338408/GenreImages.rar.html

just extract all the images and place in C:\ProgramData\VideoBrowser\GenreImages\     ...and that's it, you're done!

    Anyway, hope it helps :)

    Olywa

Please note: these images correspond to genre metadata from the imdb, sourced using salamis movie organiser, if you used a different source for your movie metadata then you may find that you need to rename the images acording to the correct genres in your xml files.

Re: New Video Browser Plugin Feature Request

I have a quick question. I have all my dvds ripped to my hard drive in folders and indexed with MyMovies. They display great through the Video Browser. Howerver, I wanted to put a movie in the browser that is just a file instead of a dvd structure and now whenever I click on the folder for my films, the movie that's a file starts and it doesn't go into browse my videos, but just starts the movie i had just placed in there that was a file. Is that normal? Is it not possible to have both dvds and files in the browser as long as they are in seperate folders? Let me know. Thanks.

Re: New Video Browser Plugin Feature Request

You need a mymovies.xml file in there too.

Grab Salami's Movie Organizer and use it to generate one for that folder.

Re: New Video Browser Plugin Feature Request

    Olywa-

Thank you very much for your reply! I was really just standing on my GreenButton soap box and talking to anyone who was listening, as I can see that there are a few people working on this project. :)

I'll try and get those suggestions submitted in the right spot, because like I said, I think that those are two of the main hurdles for average people like myself getting into this wonderful software.  I believe that if we can get all of the features added into a "Settings" section of the GUI, then people can install and start using this software without having to read a book-worth of instructions 3 times over... More interest and usability will lead to more developers.

On a final note, I must ashamedly admit that I downloaded your genre images this morning and copied them to the appropriate folder. :)  They are wonderful, thank you. I have a few more genres that my collection has generated, so I might try to find some images and get them added to the ZIP file and get it posted up somewhere that is easy to find, like TVScout.

    Thanks again!

Re: New Video Browser Plugin Feature Request

    No worries jakewill :)

I'm sure I saw something recently on the VB forum where Sam talked about adding in some settings/config tab so hopefully we'll get there soon.

No problem re using the images, that's why I shared them - and I can't take credit for all of them as a lot of them I pinched (although it did take a while to find/retouch/resize them), only a few of them were my own but I think the all fit well together.

Re the Genres you are missing (I assume this is becasue imdb was not your main metadata source - please let me know?) if you like, let me know what they are and if it's just a few I may try to knock them up for you :)

    Regards,

    Olywa

    Hi haubrija,

You can play movie files and have them alongside your dvdrips, it sounds to me like you have just placed the avi/mkv/mp4 video file straight into your main films folder and that's why it's playing. It needs to be in it's own folder and then that folder placed into your movie folder so for instance c:/films/filmname/film.avi (i.e. c:/videos/Terminator/Terminator.avi)

This is because VB reads the folder and plays the contents.

Please let us know if it helped :)

    Olywa,

You're the man! Thanks for all the info, too!

I have been pulling all of my movie metadata from MyMovies... What program do you use?

Anyway, here are the three genres I don't have.

    "Science-Fiction", "Sports", and "Suspense/Thriller"

Much thanks in advance if you can do this! :)

    Cheers,

Re: New Video Browser Plugin Feature Request

    Hi Jakewill,

I started using mymovies at first but then switched to salami's movie organiser as I found it pulled more data over and could find films that mymovies doesn't have. Although mymovies is more automated definitely prefer Salamis app, he designed it specifically for Video Browser and it lets you have a little more say in what it's doing (though it does take a little longer). All that said I don't advise switching unless you are willing to re-do the movies you already collected metadata for as you will end up with variations in your metadata which could give you problems later - i.e. as below with the genres; mymovies will give you 'sports' and Salamis app will give you 'sport' this would no doubt give you two separate genre folders with some movies in one of them and different movies in the other. Anyway, rambling a bit now...

Re those genres, there are definitely images in my pack for each of those three :) They are named 'sci-fi', 'sport' (no 's' on the end) and 'thriller' so I guess you should just need to rename my images to fit the names you have and then they'll show up :)

Let us know how you get on.

    Regards,

    Olywa

Olywa - Thanks for the reply.  That is how I have it though.  I have the file inside it's own folder with a mymovies.xml in it with a picture.  The video browser still opens up the file when picking it off the first menu.  Is there some setting I need to change?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Re: New Video Browser Plugin Feature Request

    Hi haubrija,

it sounds like you have it set-up correctly, I really don't know what the issue could be. I'd suggest making a post at the VB forum as someone there may know the answer...

Sorry I can't be more help,

Re: New Video Browser Plugin Feature Request

Open up your videobrowser.config file and try setting EnableNestedMovieFolders to False.  If it still gives you issues, also try setting EnableMoviePlaylists to False.

This was a bug in versions prior to the latest beta, but it should have been fixed.
