Yeah - I think it will be released in January. We have to get on the release train at specific intervals; that's the next available time. I know, "soon" is a relative term.

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions

I'm glad there's a patch coming out to resolve this.

I just discovered this thread as I too am having this issue. I live in Vancouver BC and have cable from Shaw and MCE won't record anything on channel EA2 for me either (although it seems I can time shift the channel fine).

I'm running MCE 2k5 with all the latest updates from Windows Update and using a Sapphire Theater 650 Pro tuner.

Sorry to be a pest Jess but we are now 1/3 of the way through January.  Any update?  Once a patch is released how will we know so that we can test it?  (Other than not getting failed recordings)

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions

I've also been having this same issue with both Vista and MCE2005, on the Shaw network in Canada and unable to record shows from Movie Central such as "The Wire".   I see that a fix is coming and I think I was told that the fix is available when attending CES last week (But don't want to misquote).  If it is - does anybody have a link.  Incidentally my Shaw PVR records all these programs withount any issues while my Media Centre on Vista Ultimate does not.  I really need to get Media Centre to work before my wife kills me!

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions

I'm new to MC with Vista having just bought a Hauppague tuner this past weekend. I quickly ran into the problems described in this very interesting thread.

I'll chime in saying I too am anxiously waiting for the patch. I live downtown Vancouver (Canada) but am using the small provider Novus rather than Shaw.

I tried the DRMreset tool mentioned very early in the thread (not realizing it was a 32 page thread) and naturally it didn't work. Prior to running the tool MC actually told me in a small popup-bubble that recording was stopped because of copyright now I think that warning has been removed, although I can see the message in the eventlog still.

Regardless, looking forward to the patch!

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions

    A revelation, sort of.....

I've been experience the same problems with my MCE 2005 box that others are reporting. I live in Canada and I use Shaw digital box for my signal. Everything was working great for two years with only minor issues until just before Christmas. I noticed the error msg for everything that I was trying to record. After a few weeks, I give up and unhooked my MCE 2005 box as we had watched all the recorded shows. I had almost given up on the everything and was going to purchase a PVR from Bell ExpressVu and leave Shaw because they where preventing me from recording anything. After some playing around with my MCE 2005 unit, I notice the digital box was on channel 313, which happens to be a ppv channel for Shaw. I did some testing, I would set up to record a show and leave the channel on 313, I would get the error msg, saying copyright restrictions prevent recording..... I would try and record the same show the next day only change the channel to a non ppv channel, a channel that I was able to get a feed from using LiveTV. I found that I was able to record without issue. I tried again and again, and what I found is that MCE 2005, at least the way mine is configured starts to record before it changes the channel, which in my case gives me the error msg. As for why I was on that channel or a channel that I don't subscribe to.....all I can say is too many remotes and kids that think they can change channels.

My problem seems to be solved

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions

That would certainly explain a lot; Even if media center only starts recording the moment it finishes changing channels, some boxes don't change channels for a second or two after you type in the new channel, so MCE would end up capturing some of it. And, if the cable boxes generates the don't-record codes, it might even continue broadcasting it for a few seconds after the channel change. The way the fix was hinted at, it should take care of that issue too. Nice find.

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions

I just want to put in another complaint that we have STILL not gotten any fix, any official announcement or acknowledgment, and no sense at all of a timeline for these things. I am STILL getting these messages and missing out on shows that I bloody well pay to have pumped into my home. this is more than just an annoyance, it's a serious flaw.

You have a witness brother.  And Jessica mentioned January as the possible release date - she has gone and so has Groundhog Day and no fix!

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions

Can I we assume this will be tied into SP1?  Now that it has got to manufacturing, can we be told yet what media center features/fixes will be in SP1?

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions

I am currently installing SP1 release and I will test this issue by recording something on shaw channel 34 (EA2) and let you guys know the results.

Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions

Just a quick update: the fix for this was prepped then pulled for some reason. There was some sort of snafu somwhere along the line. I don't have a current timeline for when we will finally get this out the door.
