QAM Channels Swap/Change Every Few Days Randomly. [TV Pack]

I'm experiencing an issue with Media Center and TV Pack.  It appears that my QAM channels seem to randomly swap.  Tonight's swapping had 10.1 (CBS) tuned into what should be on 4.1 (NBC) and 4.1 (NBC) was tuned into what is on 4.2 (Weather).  4.2 (Weather) also shows the weather [which was correct].  The guide data stays the same reflecting what should be shown on the channel.

When this occurs the only way to fix the channel swap is to scan the digital channels again, deleting all previously discovered digital channels (Tasks | settings | tv | tv signal | scan for more channels | Delete All | Scan Again)

It will reflect the accurate channels correctly for a few days, a week or sometimes longer and than they seem to swap again.

I've rebuilt this media center box 3 times now and each time the same channel swapping occurs.

    Details:
Cable Provider: Insight Communications (Columbus, OH)
    TV Cards:  1) Avermedia MN780 (Analog/QAM) [.29 drivers]
                       2) ATI HDTV Wonder (only using digital tuner via Antenna) [Vista OEM drivers]
OS: Vista SP1 With TV Pack

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated

I'd use a TV with an ATSC tuner to verify your QAM channels and if its a VMC issue or the channels are truely moving. Comcast was doing this to be a long time ago, when they were moving around channels to clear up space in their freqencies for more HD and such.

I think avsforums has a QAM section with threads for most cities and providers.  I'd check to see whats going on with the mappings.

Re: QAM Channels Swap/Change Every Few Days Randomly. [TV Pack]

I have the same exact issue.  I too am in Columbus, OH and subscribe to Insight cable.  I installed Vista Premium sp1 with the TV Pack 2008 fresh.  I have 2 AverMedia M780 tuners installed with the .29 drivers.

I noticed the channel swap last night.  The channels affected are

    4.1 - Local NBC affiliate
4.2 - Subchannel for NBC (weather)
    10.1 - Local CBS affiliate

Now the guide shows the correct programming that should be on the channels.  My 10.1 was showing the 4.1 programming.  And my 4.1 was showing the 4.2 programming.  4.2 seemed unaffected as it was showing the correct programming.  As the guide was correct it taped an hour of weather which was supposed to be something totally different.

I also noticed the swap on the 16th.  On that day only my 4.1 and 10.1 were perfectly swapped.  I re-ran the channel scan and that fixed the issue.  And all was well until last night.  The weird thing about last nights swap was I didn't rescan the channels to fix the issue.  I turned my tv on this morning to find this time and they swapped back on their own.

I have not plugged the cable directly into the tv to see what it would show.  Any ideas?

I had this issue too with my Avermedia M780 until I upgraded to the beta .30 driver.  See this to obtain:

Also, when I had this issue, when I rebooted, the problem went away (at least for a while...)

Good luck- it was annoying! AL

Thanks, I installed .30 tonight.  Will see if this fixes the issue.

Welp,  The channel switching occured again last night. 4.1 was showing the same as 4.2.  Confirmed on my other TV's with QAM Tuners, this was incorrect.

This morning I woke up and check and the channels are fine again. 4.1 is what it should be.  I didn't touch anything in media center (no channel rescans or anything).

    This is getting very frustrating.

What should have been a 60 min recording of the TV Show "Life" is represented by what was on 4.2 "Weather Plus"...

Re: QAM Channels Swap/Change Every Few Days Randomly. [TV Pack]

I just had this happen this afternoon FOX HD was being shown on 25.1(correct) and 5.1(ABC DT).
It seems to have also screwed up all the series recording set on 5.1. they are all set to 25.1 now.
I use the ATSC Guide data because using the Comcast Digital Cable Guide blows up VMC when changing channels in live tv
Boy I hope the updates on the 14th fix some  of this stuff!

So it would appear that this isn't a hardware issue as you're experiencing this same issue and you've got different tuners than what I am running (2 x HVR-1600).

Are there expected updates for TVpack coming this Patch Tuesday?

Re: QAM Channels Swap/Change Every Few Days Randomly. [TV Pack]

I have to agree this issue is *not* a HW problem... I have two systems with VMC and TV Pack (and one TV in the house that is QAM native as well).  Cable TV here is Time Warner Digital Cable (Cary, NC).  The two VMC systems are similar HW, but the TV tuners are different - primary system has dual AverMedia M780 combos, and the secondary system has a single ATI Theater Pro 650 combo.  Primary system had the EPG download issue a week or two ago (failed to get updates), so I rebuilt it from scratch over this past weekend... EPG download is now working again, but there is one QAM channel swap: ABC 11.1 in the guide is really displaying ABC 11.3 content (weather subchannel).  The secondary system (never touched recently, was working fine since TV Pack added) also now has this same channel swap, it must have happened ~last week as well.  The TV in house picks up channels 11.1, 11.2, 11.3 all working fine, so Time Warner isn't the problem.  I have not noticed this channel swap issue until ~last week on either system before.

So, based on my new channel swap issue, and a fresh OS re-build in the mix, with different TV tuners, I am pretty sure this is a SW-related (TV Pack) issue... the EPG issue is also apparently known (possibly related to this channel swap issue), and hopefully a Windows Update fix "soon" will help resolve them... I hope so!!

Re: QAM Channels Swap/Change Every Few Days Randomly. [TV Pack]

I had this same channel swap issue with TV Pack and M780.

Resolved it by manually adding the actual QAM channel to the EPG config.

The problem seems to only impact channels that are "remapped" from their actual QAM channel during initial scan (possibly due to PSIP data?). For example ABC-HD is actual QAM channel 80.1 in my area, but mapped to 7.1 during the scan. And this was one of the channels that would get randomly "swapped".

    Steps:
    1. Goto Settings | TV | Guide | Add Missing Channels | Add QAM Channel
    2. Add actual QAM channel number (e.g. 80.1). Use the silicondust site to find the actual QAM channel number.
    3. Goto Edit Channels | Edit Listings for the channel you just added (80.1). Set the listings to the exact same as the existing channel (e.g. 7.1)
    4. Merge the channels when VMC asks
    5. Goto Edit Channels | Edit Sources for the original channel (7.1). There should be multiple sources probably identically named. The bottom one is usually the one you just manually added. Make sure that one is checked and the other "screwed up" ones are unchecked. You may need trial/error to ensure the correct source is selected.

This has kept my swapping issue in check. I've also noticed that when one actual channel gets swapped, every subchannel gets messed up as well (i.e. whatever was on 80.2, 80.3, 80.4, etc is now swapped as well).
