Virgin Media + FireDTV + Windows Media Centre

    Greetings all,

This question has probably plucked up a few times around this forum (although i cant seam to find the answer in the search bar)

However, im currently a semi T&C obiding Virgin customer with a V+ box and a 2nd standard box (Telewest area)

I was looking into getting my whole system working without the Set-Top boxes, essentially hiding the fact that i have virgin TV anywhere in my house, then I came to notice that FireDTV supports a firewire connection to my PC (providing I have the correct CAM, and am willing to scrap my terms and conditions)

I suppose my question bears, is that will VMC support the setup I am planning to do (with the HDTV output) and provide me with all the services that I currently have through my V+ service, or will i need to "Daisy Chain" multiple FireDTV boxes along and has anyone else tried/done the same setup as I am currently planning?

I know i sound inexperienced with this stuff, and thats probably because I am, this is a whole new area for me, and i realise there will be bumps in the road.

    Thanks in advance.

    --edit--
PS.  If you need something other then a FireDTV Receiver, or other people have done setups like this but with different equipment, please let me know aswell.

Re: Virgin Media + FireDTV + Windows Media Centre

    Hi,

Maybe I can add a few part answers and thus contibute to the whole?

I'm currently running a FloppyDTV S2 card alongside my faithful Hauppauge 500MCE. I'm using VMC with the 2008 TV pack. I'm seeing all the FTA stuff from 4 satellites including BBC HD. That's some 4'200 digital radio and TV programs plus about 40 analogue cable.

The FloppyDTV S2 has a single CAM slot and is a single tuner so to watch one encrypted channel and record a second I'd need 2 Cams and 2 FloppyDTV cards. The card is firewire connected to an internal Firewire header on the motherboard and performs well. You can daisychain the firewire on these internal cards too, using the cable in the box that can either be used to connect internally, externally or daisy-chain, thanks to well-thought out connectors.

I'm now in the process of selecting a CAM that will support both a UK Sky card and a Swiss card. There area few CAMs that accept two cards.

    RS
