You may want to look at this. It seems to go quite a bit further than what is discussed here.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

    Hey everyone,

Not sure if any of the original developers are still out there but I have a question about the driver and associated tools.  I recently installed the driver and can use MCEIRREC and MCEIRPLAY to control some devices but not the one I really need.  I have an ONKYO TX-SR506 Receiver that will not seem to work with the recorded IR commands from it's remote.  Recordings say that they are successful and the blaster flashes but thats all.  I know that the driver is working properly through the MCE IR blaster since I was able to learn and control a Sony and Sherwood receiver but nothing with the Onkyo.  I tought the the Onkyo may be using a higher frequency than is supported through the MCE IR blaster but from the little research that I did, it seems that Onkyo uses the NEC format that seems to be very common which leads me to believe that it should work.  I even tried to use HIP and loaded in CCF codes from the remotecentral.com site but still no luck.

If anyone has had any success controling an Onkyo amplifier or has some of the IR codes and is willing to share, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    GK

I have the same receiver, and have never been able to satisfactorily get it to work with the MS blaster (in fact, I only got it respond once or twice to the blaster).   I also tried LIRC, which worked a bit better but never well enough to get more than about 50% success rate.   If you ever get it to work reliably, I'd love to hear about it :)

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I read through this thread and the FAQ, but have a couple questions.  My only goal with this software is to modify the MCE power command to create discrete power on / power off commands (acutally standby, wake from S3).  Someone had a similar power question around p24, so maybe this will answer his question as well.

I'm running vista MCE, with the microsoft USB IR reciever and a harmony 680 remote trained by my microsoft remote.  I have the original microsoft remote in case I need it.

I installed the modified driver and installed the complete version of HIP.  HIP seems easier, so i'd prefer to use it unless i'm required to use girder.  I then followed the instructions from the FAQ to opened the pre-configured MCEIR.hip file.  This gives me a profile with most MCE commands already included.

    I have a couple problems / questions:

    1. It doesnt seem to recognize IR input.  When i try to train a new command, it hangs on the 'send command' window.  It does recognize up/down/left/right keys for some reason though.

    2. What's the best way to implement new power commands?

Thanks in advance for any help.  Let me know if there's any other information I should provide.

    J1mb0b,

Thanks for the reply.  I was worried that this would be the answer I got.  I'm going to try and purchase a USB-UIRT and go straight to Girder.  Would have been nice to use the MCE IR but that's life.

Just out of curiosity, did you ever use the HIP application with CCF codes?  I got the full HEX code spreadsheet from one of the other forums but have yet to be able to get it to work.  It may in fact be the MCE IR that is not able to broadcast the IR command.

    Thanks again.

I never tried HIP, but I did compile a bunch of CCF codes from remoteexchange (?).  I managed to get the receiver to respond to the MCE blaster once or twice, so I know it does work, but I guess the receiver is pickier than some others.  I'm now using my Palm Tungsten E as a universal remote to drive it.  It works perfectly, so I've given up on the MCE blaster for that purpose.  Sorry I can't help more.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

You will find a complete CCF file for Win XP MCE at RemoteCentral.com, which is a valuable resource for all kinds of data around remote controls.  I have successfully used this file as the basis for an MCE remote control emulation using TV Remote Controller from pdawin.com.
