Me too.  I tried to change the config file but it did not work.  Sure it was me.  My movies files are in \\server\movies  with videos in \\server\videos.  How do I get them to show up in MediaCenter?  Thanks and please excuse the dunb question!

Hello, this SW seems to be the answer to my problem(don`t like "my movies"), but i can`t get it to work, i installed it and when i tried to use it it crashes, all the time! never worked for me.

Can anyone help me? I looked at the whole 29 pages in this forum, trying to look for a similar problem but  found nothing.

I have set my folder to K:\videos with out a problem.

I don't know much about the meta data I let MyMovies2 handle all that

Each movie must be in its own folder of the same name (Saving Private Ryan\Saving Private Ryan.mkv|avi|etc.).  The easiest (and I think the best) way of importing metadata is to use Salami's Movie Organizer.

I'd also like to direct specific troubleshooting cases to the Video Browser Forum.  You're likely to get better help there.

hi JonL, thats not strictly true, the foldername and video filename can be completely different, the only files that need to have exact names are the cover art file (has to be named folder.jpg) and the metadata file (has to be named mymovies.xml).

i think what mjp14 is asking is whether you can display videos from different drives/partitions, this can be done using the virtual folder feature of video browser (.vf files) there is some notes about doing this on the videobrowser forum as well as this thread.

as far as metadata goes, for movies use salami's movie organiser as JonL says, or use metababel or if its metadata for tv series your after then use tv scout.

Paul, you're correct about folder naming.  It just makes things easier with SMO :)

I prefer TVScout over the others.  I'm guessing the latest betas are supporting the other metadata grabbers again as the SVNs prior to the latest beta were no longer reading anything but TVScout XML files for me.

Otherwise, they should all be getting the same info and putting it in the same format.  It's more a matter of which interface you like best.

I used TVMetaData also until it stopped working.  I've decided not to go back to it over TVScout since Bill (the developer of it) has stated he wants to pass the project along to someone else.

The current beta version will mount an ISO but it will also try to play the ISO which will cause a "cannot play video" error.  I'm hoping Sam et al will fix this in some future version.

I have Arcsoft TMT set to autoplay when a Blu-ray disc is detected.  When an ISO is mounted, TMT will automatically launch.

I was wondering if people could help me with some icons...

I use Sam's Video Browser for everything apart from recorded TV. All movies, documentaries, exercise videos, comedy shows and TV series are archived and accessed via Video Browser.

The way I have it set up is:

D:\Videos\... [Movies / TV Series\Comedy\Exercise]

I have Video Browser pointing to D:\Videos as a starting point. So the initial screen has 4 text entries and currently no graphics.

My question is, has anyone found a good supply of nice graphics that I could stick in the folders to give a nice visual splash to this initial menu system?

I am fairly new to Vista Media Center. I am coming over from BeyondTV.  I was wondering if this would be the right plugin to import and be able to watch my BeyondTV recordings. 

Also, would it be possible to continue importing recordings (I have a PC downstairs that still records via BeyondTV and is networked (the files are available for my Media Center PC).

I think you are on the right track here.

The Video Browser can play all the file formats that BeyondTV can record, assuming that you have the right codec packs installed. It seems that MPEG-2, H.264, WMV and DivX are the 4 file formats possible to record into. I think that all can be played if you have ffdshow tryouts installed.

As regards getting the latest recordings, it';s all a matter of where you point the Video Browser application when you set it up. If you just want to use it for the recorded stuff, then point it at the shared drive space and as soon as a new recording gets put there, it will show up. If you want to use Video Browser for other things too, I'd suggest sticking a shortcut in your "other things" folder that links to the shared drive space.

Anyhow, the only remaining issue is the metadata. I dont know how BeyondTV labels the shows and what form of metadata it uses, bt I imagine it is unlikely to be in a form that Video Browser can use. Can anyone confirm this?

I may suggest using one of the TVDB scrapers to populate your metadata space...

Okay, I think I figured out how to change the video browser folder it looks in.  I've got that setup, but it does not recognize any of the HD files recorded (they are .tp files - I think transport streams).  They play fine in theatertek. 

It does recognize the sd files (.mpg). 

Not sure how to get around this.

  I have a similar setup to you and I thought some nice graphics would make it simpler for the family to find what they want so I created some. Mine currently looks like this:

the images are very bright and slick (not sure the pic does them justice. If you are interested in these I am happy to share them. Might even conside knocking one up for Exercise for you :)
