    RE: ATI Remote Wonder with MCE 2005

    I was guessing that the NVIDIA remote's software is organized in a similar way as the ATI. Doing a quick search on the net suggests that your X10 driver is found in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus controllers as NVIDIA Wireless Remote Receiver. You always need a driver here, try with the one you have, try with ATI's, or software for any other clone of this remote control (there are heaps!) like Niveus http://www.niveusmedia.com/gallery/rc_full.htm.

    The driver takes care of making the remote button presses available in your system. Then you need an application that listens to these button presses, convert them into the desired keyboard keystrokes, and send them on to the desired application window (MCE in my case). This is where I ditched ATI's software (ATIRW.exe) and instead used RW Key Master / Factory to get more flexibility in key assignments. My search suggests that the corresponding NVIDIA application in your case is Nvarem.exe which you will find as a running process and autorun. You should make sure this doesn't run (you don't have to uninstall) so remove the autorun and terminate the process, or reboot.

    So, my first recommendation is to try RW Key Master / Factory with your existing driver. If not ok, try with other manufacturers' drivers together with RWM/F and remember to disable their corresponding "applications" that are usually installed at the same time. If you still have no luck try other X10 applications instead of RWM/F, like x10rc (there are more if you look around). You need to find the combination that works with your hardware.

    Sorry, not owning this hardware I cannot help you more than this so you're on your own now. Remember that Google is your friend and also do not forget NVIDIA's own forums at http://forums.nvidia.com

    RE: ATI Remote Wonder with MCE 2005

    Hi Folks - I was under the impression this would launch Media Centre from the standard XP desktop but mine does not. Unless Im a bit dim I can't see anywhere to configure a button on th RW (ie the power button) to launch an application (ie MCE).

    If anybody could point me in the right direction to fix this I would be very grateful.

    Cheers

    RE: ATI Remote Wonder with MCE 2005

    If you have followed the instructions in my initial post, the RW power button should launch Media Center, due to the following keyboard mapping:

    RW button       MCE function                 Keyboard shortcut
    ---------       ------------                 -----------------
    Power           Start MCE                    WindowsLogo+Alt+Enter

    The WindowsLogo sequence is built into MCE, so your system should respond to it and my supplied RW mapping should be fine.

    There is no way of pointing out and executing an arbitrary application binary through RwKeyFactory.

    RE: ATI Remote Wonder with MCE 2005

    Thanks mikewse,

    I think I must be very close but I'm unsure I'm doing exactly the right thing with the "Key Factory Config".

    As there were a number of .rwc files from following your installation instruction I decided to download and use your own .rwc file (rwkeyfactory-mce2005.rwc).

    When I checked the config for 'power' it was switched to off (enabled = No).

    The problem is that I'm not sure if (a) I'm using the correct config file, although most of the RW functions appear to operate now within MCE, and (b) how to make a 'win+alt+enter' modification - I can make a 'win+alt' but am not seeing an option on the menu to add a further '+enter' (see screen capture attached).

    I'm a bit of a newbie at all this so once again your help would be appreciated.

    Regards

    TBird1

    RE: ATI Remote Wonder with MCE 2005

    My file rwkeyfactory-mce2005.rwc contains the enabled Power button mapping, see for yourself in the downloaded file:

    Enabled_55=1
    RW_Key_55=Power Off
    RptCount_55=0
    RptDelay_55=250
    ActionType_55=Simple
    WindowsKey_55=Enter
    Modifiers_55=Alt+Win
    Types_55=On

    So, it is something on your end that has removed the binding. Maybe yourself?

    Anyway, to bind it the way I have done you specify both Alt and Win as modifiers and then choose Enter for key.

    Does anyone one know if there is an MCE shortcut for "eject disc"?

    RE: ATI Remote Wonder with MCE 2005

    HI, i am a total newbie about media center. I had my old motherboard with a p4 1.5 processor so i decided why not build a media center pc. Today i've installed windows mce on the pc but couldnt find a way to make my ATI remote wonder work. I've tried latest drivers - 3.03 but they didnt work. So i've tried some older (found 1.4 on some cd) but when i rebooted an plugged the usb wireless controller the system was unable to find x10ufx2.sys. After an hour on google ive installed x10drivers.exe. Everything seems fine (no system alerts) but my remote controller still didnt work. So i've found this forum and this post. Followed all your steps, but my remote wonder still wont work. What is the problem? On the Advanced tab of RW key master is RC Name: ATI Remote Wonder 1 and RC Info: ATI driver 3.02, X10net.dll. Why is there the driver version 3.02 when i have 1.4 drivers? What should i do to make my RW work???

    Thanx for your reply.

    Best regards, Matej Bartok, Slovakia

    RE: ATI Remote Wonder with MCE 2005

    The version of the Remote Wonder installation package and of the actual X10 driver is not necessarily the same number. I am using the Remote Wonder version 3.01 software which puts an X10 driver with version 2.36 on my system.

    You should make sure that your RW's USB Receiver is online:

    Open Control Panel|System|Hardware|Device Manager

    and check under Universal Serial Bus controllers. On my system there is an entry "ATI Wireless Remote Receiver V2.36" which only appears when the receiver is connected and recognized by the operating system.

    If this is ok, and things are still not working, I would suggest you check if the remote control is broken (or need batteries ;-).

    RE: ATI Remote Wonder with MCE 2005

    Hi,
    ok, i understand that the versions of Remote Wonder driver and X10 driver doesn't need to be the same. But how did u get your's 3.01 RW soft to work on MCE? I was installing 3.03 with no success - missing some dll files. On this site i found, that RW will not work with drivers 3.xx on MCE. And older drivers require X10 drivers (x10ufx2.sys and some other files). So i've installed X10 drivers but they didn't work with RCmaster.

    And yes, my USB receiver was online and yes, i had a new set of batteries in remote control, i am a newbie but not stupid ;-)

    RE: ATI Remote Wonder with MCE 2005

    I did nothing special to have 3.01 working on MCE. Device Manager reports that the driver is in the x10uif.sys file.

    Actually, once when I disconnected my receiver and plugged it back in again it seemed Windows "lost" its configuration and I had to point out the DLL file manually. In 3.01 it is installed to C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\RemCtrl\drivers.

    "3.xx version not working on MCE": well, I haven't read about this nor tried the latest 3.03, but note that 3.01 ships a 2.x X10 driver while you mentioned that 3.03 ships a 3.x X10 driver. Maybe that's the important point?

    I suggest you clean your system from all different RW and X10 versions you've had installed so you get back to the state where your receiver is an "unknown" USB device. Then install 3.01.

    RE: ATI Remote Wonder with MCE 2005

    I installed remote wonder driver 3.03 last night on a clean MCE 2005 install --- it works.

    Hi,

    Have you removed the attachment: rwkeyfactory-mce2005.rwc from your post?

    Couldn't find it..

    I can't get the file to work. I copied the settings, saved it, then loaded it into RW Key Factory, but i get a list of 'unused'
