I have installed the new driver and everything is working so far.  I am using VMC with the Aver VMC tool.

I just got a first BSOD since I updated the Aver driver to the latest version on Vista x64:

    BugCheck D1, {38, 2, 0, fffffa60007c53c1}

I think this driver is more stable than the previous beta driver. Hopefully, this will survive the Olympics.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE

So can I use the tuner for both QAM and NTSC off the same cable?  (I didn't see an answer to that question) I don’t need it for recording, but I don’t want to have to change the setup every time I change from a QAM channel to an analog (NTSC) channel.

Any chance for something similar for the NanoExpress?  So I that I can get my ClearQAM in VMC as well as my analog channels?

    Thanks!

    Felix,

I have OEM M791 tuner card that came with my gateway computer. Will there be any driver update for clear QAM reception? I see your company is very active when it comes to M780 and now with USB Volar Max tuner.

    Felixk:

    Dear TheGreenButton.com folks,

AVerMedia Technologies, Inc is committed to support more product with Clear QAM support for Media Center and I proud to announce new product to you AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max.

This tuner is USB Stick form factor, very light and portable and this Tuner received highest award on CES 2008 and USB 2.0 Certified too.

This tuner support QAM in Vista VMC or XP MCE (both x32 and x64 bit) using an original drivers  and same QAM Plug-In for Microsoft Media Center (both XP based and Vista based)

You can find more information about AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max on following link: http://www.aver.com/mpd/hybrid_volar_max.html. and its available from AVerMedia Secure E-Store for $79.99.

Please  run AVer_ClearQAM.exe to scan for Digital Channels (Please notice that with this Plug in you can only watch Unencrypted "Clear" QAM Channels, not your Premium Channels. Some of the channels that Plug in will recognized will be Encrypted by your Cable Company and  you cannot see then, you will have to manually removed them from MCE TV Guide. Also you can manually rename Clear QAM Channels in MCE/VMC TV Guide.

Please download Vista MCE Plug-In from the following FTP:

    ftp.aver.com/Max

    Felix,
I have the same question.  My HP s3500t came with a m792, which looks to be an OEM version of the m780.  Is there going to be QAMsupport  in VMC for this card?

I just installed the TV Pack with under the vista media center and now my AverMedia Volar Max is only showing up as an digital tuner, nolonger and hybrid.  It mentions that is has detected the tuner but that it is not properly set up.

FYI : I am using the .85 drivers

    Tito,

Let me know if your M791 works for QAM using the "TV Pack" in VMC. I see people selling these cards for half the price of the M780 online and will pick one up if QAM is confirmed.

    thanks

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE

I have not been able to see my QAM channels in Vista Media Center. I tried looking for the Aver_ClearQAM tool but can't seem to find it! I went to ftp.aver.com/max and found a zip file that seems to be the plug-in that enables VMC to see QAM channels. I installed that, re-setup my TV signal in VMC but still the same - can't seem to detect the QAM channels though the regular NTSC channels through the Volar Max works fine. I must be doing something wrong! Appreciate any help (or a step-by-step guide :))

There may be some workarounds for hybrid cards so that you can switch between NTSC and ATSC or QAM but if you do get it working you must be diligent in staving off simultaneous NTSC / ATSC (or QAM) operation on said tuner solution. This technique might (I stress might) work for tuners with software encoders like the AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max and AverTV Bravo Hybrid PCI-E (H788) but I’m not sure as I don’t have this hardware to test with:

    http://www.hdtvtunerinfo.com/vistahdtvinstall.html

Its probably better for users of Hybrid cards to simply buy another tuner and add it to their systems as this will yield increased functionality and prevent analog / digital tuner conflicts that will likely result in corrupted recordings (or missed recordings).

BTW, AverMedia users with the AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max, AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress and AVerTV Hybrid Bravo PCIe TV Tuners might want to give the AVerMedia FM Gadget v1.1.0.3 a try:

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE

With the TV Pack installed the Volar Max will not allow both ATSC and NTSC to be configured at the same time in MCE.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE

The Avermedia A180 PCI HDTV Tuner Card is ATSC only as far as I know so it wouldn’t be possible for it to tune NTSC. The AVerTV Volar MAX H826 is a Hybrid so it can do NTSC and ATSC or QAM but not simultaneously.

Thanks for correcting that. (I edited the post to correct it) I was confusing the A180 with the Hauppauge 1500 I think. (My Hauppauge 1500 does allow both to be set up with TV Pack)

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE

    Greetings all,

Purchased an AverTV Hybrid Volar Max two weeks ago. Running WinXP SP3 home edition & AverMedia software included with Volar Max purchase. Using latest software & drivers. Cable (Comcast) connected to tuner. Everything is working great, with only one exception:  the "lowest" or first QAM channel (36.1 which is our local PBS HD station) detected in auto scan has no video/black screen but audio is present. This occurs at software launch (and with scheduled recording). When watching live TV and I move channel selection up or down one channel and return to 36.1 it then tunes this channel correctly. Then while watching live TV on 36.1 and I close then relaunch the software, I get no video/black screen (audio only) on 36.1 channel, but moving channel selection up or down then returning to 36.1 as described above results in correct tuning of this channel. Scheduled recording for this particular channel has the same result; no video/black screen, but audio is present. As stated above, everything else is working great; scheduled recording of other channels (QAM and/or analog) works correctly. I would be grateful for any assistance with this problem.

SO...... i have followed all the steps, but media center doesnt ask me to set up my digital after my cable. i set up the cable and it says it is done. if i set up the antenna first it says i need to set up cable first if i use it. if i just go ahead with setting up the antenna i see the channels that aver clear qam exported, but then i dont have my analog cable channels. how can i get media center to recognize it has both tuners?
