I have installed the new driver and everything is working so far. I am using VMC with the Aver VMC tool.
Doug
I just got a first BSOD since I updated the Aver driver to the latest version on Vista x64:
BugCheck D1, {38, 2, 0, fffffa60007c53c1}
I think this driver is more stable than the previous beta driver. Hopefully, this will survive the Olympics.
So can I use the tuner for both QAM and NTSC off the same cable? (I didn't see an answer to that question) I don’t need it for recording, but I don’t want to have to change the setup every time I change from a QAM channel to an analog (NTSC) channel.
Any chance for something similar for the NanoExpress? So I that I can get my ClearQAM in VMC as well as my analog channels?
Thanks!
Heat
Felix,
I have OEM M791 tuner card that came with my gateway computer. Will there be any driver update for clear QAM reception? I see your company is very active when it comes to M780 and now with USB Volar Max tuner.

Tito,
Let me know if your M791 works for QAM using the "TV Pack" in VMC. I see people selling these cards for half the price of the M780 online and will pick one up if QAM is confirmed.
thanks
I have not been able to see my QAM channels in Vista Media Center. I tried looking for the Aver_ClearQAM tool but can't seem to find it! I went to ftp.aver.com/max and found a zip file that seems to be the plug-in that enables VMC to see QAM channels. I installed that, re-setup my TV signal in VMC but still the same - can't seem to detect the QAM channels though the regular NTSC channels through the Volar Max works fine. I must be doing something wrong! Appreciate any help (or a step-by-step guide :))

There may be some workarounds for hybrid cards so that you can switch between NTSC and ATSC or QAM but if you do get it working you must be diligent in staving off simultaneous NTSC / ATSC (or QAM) operation on said tuner solution. This technique might (I stress might) work for tuners with software encoders like the AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max and AverTV Bravo Hybrid PCI-E (H788) but I’m not sure as I don’t have this hardware to test with:
Its probably better for users of Hybrid cards to simply buy another tuner and add it to their systems as this will yield increased functionality and prevent analog / digital tuner conflicts that will likely result in corrupted recordings (or missed recordings).
BTW, AverMedia users with the AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max, AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress and AVerTV Hybrid Bravo PCIe TV Tuners might want to give the AVerMedia FM Gadget v1.1.0.3 a try:
The Avermedia A180 PCI HDTV Tuner Card is ATSC only as far as I know so it wouldn’t be possible for it to tune NTSC. The AVerTV Volar MAX H826 is a Hybrid so it can do NTSC and ATSC or QAM but not simultaneously.
