I have also encountered the "unpause" problem after installing this update.  Additionally, I've noticed that if I resize the window from full screen, then when I restore the Media Center window to full screen the Live TV video "stutters" or "hiccups" (highly technical terms, I know.)  The only fix for this problem seems to be a reboot.  I'm also going to remove the update.

    DevilFish:

Same (unpausing) issue confirmed for me on Vista Ultimate (32-bit). Screensaver kicking in also causes playback to resume (actually, even from stop rather than pause) which is extremely annoying if you've left a video half way through, intending to return to it later...

Removing the update and rebooting has returned things to a state I can live with.

Same here.  Video I had stopped (not paused) began playing again after the screensaver kicked in.  Very annoying.  I certainly hope we don't have to wait several months for another cumulative update to resolve this issue.

I have the unpausing issue and another issue nobody brought up.

After viewing a recorded program, I get a black screen. No longer do I get the options: Done, Restart, Keep, Delete. Sometimes, instead of a black screen, the last frame from the program is displayed.

Anyone else see this happen after the Cumulative update?

I'm having exactly the same problem as you described after viewing a recorded program, I just get a black screen.

Now that you mention it, this happened to me as well.

Ditto on the black screen. Me thinks a roll back is in order. Sad [:(]

I'm getting the same too with the black screen and paused media resumes on minimize.  All since the update.  Think I may be rolling back if it gets annoying!

Yep, me too with the unpausing if screensaver kicks in.

Great, another quality MS release, and guess what, it won't be fixed until the next cumulative update. Nice one.

I am getting the unpause at screensaver start and the black screen at the end of videos about 75% of the time.

I'm glad I found this thread. I too was experiencing random resume from pause and a black screen when hitting the stop button on live TV.  I had no idea what was causing it, but uninstalling the update fixed it.

Re: Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB950126) is now available

I am really glad this thread has appeared, so glad I joined the site :)

I have tried everything ( short of the rollback option ) with no luck. Having gone over

the KB950126 release information theres a little sentence that reads :

" This update addresses a blank screen issue that occurs when you switch between full-screen mode and windowed mode while you play videos. "

All I can say is ... Hmmmmmmm

The issue manifests itself when VMC loses focus , either when resizing , screen saver kicks in, minimzing, maximising or running some web based content, in my case TunerFree MCE ( formally Iplayer MCE )

Its completely predictable and more than a little annoying. Its favourite party piece is , screen goes blank for screensaver etc , movie resumes or restarts.

Re: Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB950126) is now available

I haven't been able to apply the x64 version of 950126 since this was announced.  It ran, searched for updates, and then said "This update does not apply to your system".  However today I see 950124 and 950125 in my Patch Tuesday scheduled updates.  I'll see how it goes!

    • This update provides broader Media Center support for newer TV set-top boxes.

    • This update addresses a picture quality issue that occurs when you use Media Center Extender on an Xbox 360 console that has a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connector to the TV for video and a Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format (S/PDIF) connection to the audio device for audio.
    • This update addresses an issue in which the Media Center Extender stops responding (hangs) when you play a large non-WMV video over an HTTP session.
    • This update provides support for 50Hz output together with better quality for HD models. This feature applies primarily to regions that use the PAL video standard.

Re: Update for MeCumulative dia Center for Windows Vista (KB950126) is now available

I have the same issues. I get the black screen at the end of recorded TV shows (haven't tried videos or DVD's yet). However if I hit "exit" on my remote the black screen goes away and it brings up the usual screen.

Re: Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB950126) is now available

    Got that as well.

Minimizing Media Center would cause a paused video to start playing, and maximizing back would do the same.

The blank/black screen would happen to me if I paused playback, let the computer go into standby, then resumed and would need to press 'back' to get to the 'resume' screen that I would normally get because now I would get the black/blank screen. I would resume playback, but I would get no audio after that point, and would have to press play again during playback to get the audio to start (this was supposed to be fixed by SP1).

Uninstalling KB950126 fixed the blank screen and pause/playback on minimize/restore problems.

The 'no audio problem on resume' remains.

Another ongoing issue: If, during playback from the suspend/resume scenario, I pressed pause and play again, it would restart the entire recording from the start.

Thanks to dmagerl for pointing me to this thread after posting here:

And that's my life with VMC of late.

(And I won't start with DRM of a show that's ending preventing the start of a recording of a show that isn't...)

    ;)

    Slainte.

Re: Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB950126) is now available

We've confirmed the issues with minimize/video resume and blank screen at end of recorded playback.  We're investigating the cause of this and why our test passes did not catch this.

Only workaround at this time is to uninstall KB950126 if this is a scenario you use frequently.
