    donnnm:

It still works.  Read Schmecky's post eight above this one (http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/permalink/85967/90784/ShowThread.aspx#90784)...

You have to copy the script into a txt file using notepad and then save the file with a .hta extension.

It worked like a champ for me.

    Great work Schmecky - thanks.

No there was an actual GUI based application that was written to do it also.

Re: RE: Increasing the pause buffer

Yes, there is a GUI for it. I first read about it and downloaded it from here:  http://msmvps.com/blogs/chrisl/archive/2006/02/20/84322.aspx

However, the link on Chris's blog site no longer seems to link to the app. I've noticed that the file-download area is missing a few files since TGB site was updated recently. Maybe its just a matter of time until they're uploaded again.

In the meantime, if you want to leave your email address, I can send the file to you. The size of the file is only 700KB.

Re: RE: Increasing the pause buffer

Sorry guys.  Evidently when the site switched to this newer version all the uploads within threads were broken.  Hopefully the moderators will see its usefulness and add it to the downloads sections.

I've placed it on my website for now.  It's Here

    Thanks for your interest ;)

Re: RE: Increasing the pause buffer

    Fantastic !

I always hated when I paused to cook something and then it resumes out of the blue before I'm ready to return.  You have to hurry up and catch up since 30 minutes isnt nearly long enough.  1 or 2 hours is a must thanks!

Problems w/ Increasing the pause buffer

I downloaded GUI software (MCE buffer extender) for increasing the replay buffer about 3 months ago. I have had a repeated problem with trying to rewind past about 40 minutes from live TV.  The media center completely stalls on me, and nothing can fix it except a complete turn off and restart. If I leave the system in the frozen state for 10-15 minutes, on occassion I get a virtual memory error. I have increaesed my virtual memory to 2048 min and max 4096, but I continue to get the error.

Any one else having the same difficults? Any Ideas?
    thanks,
    rtmey

I have an HP media center (z555) w/ 512 memory. I have my recording folder on an external USB drive and the virual memory settings on the internal hard drive.

I've seen live OTA HD channels pause without warning.  The way to resume is hit control alt delete, then alt/tab. (and it plays again)   This problem happened before I ran the mod though so its not related to messing with the buffer. (which I didnt do yet)  I havnt tried rewinding past the normal 30 minutes yet.  I'll give it a try and see how it works out.  I'll apply the gui mod to increase the buffer today and post my findings soon.

    Another question:

Why does a Paused XviD AVI file start playing again after 10 or 20 minutes?   I'm watching a .AVI file, I pause the video, I walk into the other room, the file resumes with out anyone pressing play again! (happens every time)     I can see how the live tv buffer works, but why an AVI file????

Re: Problems w/ Increasing the pause buffer

Sorry to revive an old thread.

I'm using this fix to get a couple of hours buffer time at the moment which is great.

I'm thinking of a move to vista in the near future, does anyone know if vista has the same 30 minute limit, or does it allow a longer buffer

    thanks

Re: Problems w/ Increasing the pause buffer

I'm glad you bumped this one.  I hadn't heard of this fix before, and actually never really considered that I could adjust the pause buffer, slick

Re: Problems w/ Increasing the pause buffer

    Same limit applies in Vista.
That said, the same 'fix' should work in Vista's Media Center as well.

Re: Problems w/ Increasing the pause buffer

In case anyone is wondering, I am just confirming here. The "hta" file posted (at least the text for it), does work under Vista. I tested it under RC2 (5744) and the RTM (retail version)and it in both times gave me over 2 hours of pause time. Thank god for this, it's something Media Center has needed for a long time...

Could someone please repost this Incredibly Useful file? The link is broken, and it was just posted last month.

Re: RE: Increasing the pause buffer

For some reason this forum says that I don't have rights to upload files.  Give me your email and I'll send it along.  Let me know if you're using XP or Vista.  I'm curious if it works on Vista.
