    TW4T:

Any chance of some screen shots, pref from the xbox entender?

There's a screenshot on the web site, and in this forum.

If anyone wants to donate me an xbox 360, I'll be happy to post some screenshots from it, and maybe even figure out how to optimize the code for extenders. Make it the elite edition with a copy of Rock Band though Wink [;)]

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    I have produced a new version now based on various feedback. Changes are;

    1) Added triple-tap to the search so it can be used from the remote
    2) Cleaned up the screen layout to make it align better
    3) Added an episode description display, and made it easier to see the program name.

    Available now from http://www.milliesoft.co.uk/.

This is great software - many thanks for developing this...

Just wish it would work on an extender that I have in the lounge...

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

Thank you so much for this. I just don't know whether to love you or hate you!

Love because this is a feature that Media Centre absolutely needs. Microsoft & the BBC should have got it sorted from Day 1.

Hate because I'd decided a while back not to upgrade to Vista just yet as there is no new functionality over what I've already got in my nicely working MCE2005. Fiji would be my upgrade reason. However, you have now provided that functionality kick that Vista was missing. Shall I upgrade now, or wait for Fiji as I was planning?? Oh, I don't know...!

Regarding the extenders I believe the reason the performance isn't good it because the video stream is Flash. The extenders use a hybrid remote desktop connection. For general screen display the regular RDP protocol is used. But RDP was never designed for streaming video, so for that the file is transferred over to the extender where it handles the decoding and display. That's why the 360 can't handle divx etc, Microsoft haven't provided the software in the 360 to decode the files. In this instance the extender is attempting to render the Flash video over RDP rather than natively. Unfortunately that's never going to work smoothly.

MCE2005 (Will go with the Win7 public beta when available) | AMD64X2 3600+ | 3Gb Ram | 1.5Tb HDD | Hauppauge PVR150 | nVidia 7300LE silent GPU | Pig ugly big black case | Dead DVD drive | Virgin Media cable | Xbox 360 wired extender

Version 1.3 is much nicer - easier to use.
FYI, i still occasionally see the 'Click to Play' icon when streaming a programme (It doesnt bother me but I thought I'd let you know) - It does not appear central in the screen it is more towards the top left of the screen. Note that I am using a 32" Widescreen but I am not sure if that has anything to do with anything.
Keep up the GREAT work!  Exellant program!

    Glad you like it.

For me, media center was the one big reason for upgrading to Vista. The user interface is so much nicer - with thumbnail previews of recorded TV, opaque menus over video instead of relegation to a box in the corner, and a much nicer extention layer (I have written my share of XP MCE apps too, and I know this would not have looked or behaved nearly as nice in XP). I think it is a shame that microsoft weren't able (or willing) to put the new media center interface on XP though.

Thanks for the explaination on why this isn't functioning well on the extenders. I am surprised that it doesn't just push the html to the extender. but if it doesn't it doesn't.

Thanks for the screenshot. That's wierd. I'll have a think about why that may happening.

I've tried yougle but it doesn't work great with x64.  However your app does. It was a serious suggestion anyways.

I would say that a Youtube plugin should be a seperate project but it would be nice to see itv.com/catchup content added to this somehow (or maybe this should also be a seperate project for someone)

That's an interesting idea. I took a quick look at the ITV site, and it doesn't seem to be quite as scrapable as the iPlayer web page, and it uses silverlight. That's a whole new area I'm not sure I'm ready to go in to yet. I'll bear it in mind for a rainy day though.

4OD actually looks more plausible - it's well structured and predictable. Again another rainy day project perhaps.
