    TV Pack in the UK

Since most of the work for TV Pack was to make VMC more europe friendly, has anyone tried it in the UK? - I am really wanting to get the red button working while the olympics are on - however if I stuff everything up the wife factor kicks in (literally)

Yes... and indeed red button does work.... and I have been messing with it for Olympic stuff Smile [:)]

However, it can introduce a few glitches... no show stoppers, but it doesn't seem to be as rock solid as the Vista RTM version. But still worth a go... as your experience may be better..

Working pretty good on a NOVA-T system. Channel change is much faster and the interface definetly runs smoother. Red button & text work really well & just as fast as my skybox.

Some guide issues though - wont let me record Match of the day as a series! NO biggies though so far.

Re: TV Pack in the UK

2 issues for me and both are show stoppers as far as I am concerned.

1 - Series Record no longer works for weekly shows.

2 - Windows Movie Maker and pretty much every other piece of editing software does not recognise the new .wtv file format so you can no longer edit out the leading and trailing garbage from any recording or edit out the ad breaks (in fact trying to open a .wtv file in movie maker will cause it to crash).

I also found the picture quality worse with the tv pack and suspect the new decoders are not up to scratch (my opinion only so dont flame me if you disagree).

Couple of other things I noticed..

..The channel scan now seems to work in reverse - i.e. BBC channels are detected last now whereas before they were detected first.

..What appears to be yet another new bug - occassionally changing channels will just result in the audio playing but the video looping the last few frames from the previous channel (I have to close and reopen media center to get it going again).

..Recording radio stations now takes up a ton of disk space because for some stupid reason it still seems to record the video stream (even though there isn't one).

If you are tempted to install the TV Pack please make sure you have a fresh restore point or better yet a complete backup so you can roll back the changes if you are not happy with the outcome.

Thanks for all your replies - on balance, I'll be patient and wait for the September announcement and see what that brings.

    LOL Big Smile [:D]

Having worked for a large American company for far too long, and spending too much time on the US dominated TGB, I simply refuse now to misspell words like "centre", "analogue" and "programme" and I always use the correct date format!

Does the actual red button on your remote work for the MHEG stuff ?

I have to press "i" and then go to interactive. An on-screen set of buttons then lets me use the redbutton features.

Mind you, I have NEVER been able to enter text with my remote either. Pressing the number buttons always yields numerals.

Possibly something to do with the IR receiver. It's the one on an Antec Fusion Black case.

Yip thats what it is - v similar issue when I used to use the IR doodar in my Zalman 160 case.  I stick with the proper MS one now and it all works great!

I have a Fusion case and an original MS Media Center remote with the Fastext coloured keys and MS IR Receiver.

When I use the Fusion iMon IR reciever it doesn't "see" the coloured keys, but when I use the MS USB IR receiver it does.

AIUI this may be because there are no keyboard shortcuts for the coloured keys - and thus the Fusion iMon receiver can't send those keys to Media Center?

Re: TV Pack in the UK

It says "Not Defined" on the LCD when I press one of these buttons.

I wondered about using different driver s/w but it still didn't work and the LCD didn't work either.

If was to use the external MS receiver, would the power button still put the HTPC to sleep and wake it ?
