    Future Home Server features?

I saw this on engadget, there's a posting from Microsoft on a jobs site looking for a developer for the next version of Home Server:

    http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/08/next-version-of-windows-home-server-promises-time-machine-like-u/

    From the posting:

Just to give a couple of examples ? Time Machine compete UI for backup and restore, Windows Media Center integration UI, Live Mesh integration UI etc.. are three of the top UI deliverables for our next version.

I don't really care about the Time Machine UI, because WHS has a great backup solution as is (and yes I can already restore any file from any day I have a backup for).  The Media Center integration I can't wait for though.  Glad to know they're busy working on that, because I'd love to have my WHS contain all of my tuners as well.  Now just hopefully they're secretly working on Softsled...

There's no telling how long it'll take before that's out. And we all know they're not touching softsled. You'll have to go SageTV for that option.

Hey, don't rain on my dreams. Wink [;)]

Seriously though, yeah I'm sure it won't work exactly how I want it and stuff, but I can hope, can't I?

And I've checked out SageTV, and its interface is crap compared to MediaCenter.  I realize you can skin it, but eh even still, its not good enough.

Point being, we've been waiting for quite a few years for softsled. It's not going to happen, just ask Chris. That's one of the reasons why I'm skipping Vista MCE all together and going SageTV.
Interface aside, it does what we want. I'm used to the MCE2005 interface, so the SageMC interface will not be much of a change for me.

Future WHS feature?  How about not corrupting my files with these "file conflicts" that pop up every few days?  PP1 is even less reliable than pre-PP1 since the file conflicts will occur randomly even if you aren't editing any files.  They should worry about future features after they fix that.

Dude, that sounds like an issue pertaining to you only. I haven't heard of that with anyone else and I'm a mod over at HP's MSS forum. Have you tried a server restore?

It's a real problem, but it isn't getting talked about as much as the earlier issues and I suspect that it isn't affecting as many people.

They're fixing it themselves by doing this, however you do it:

Next I used WHS Cleanup to scan the affected folders and get rid of the old shadow copy. Give the system a few moments for the error to go away and repeat for all affected files.
