I have a HTPC and I want to move it to a new location and be able to record Directv  (analog I know) but still be able to watch HD with the set top box connected to my TV.

Do I just need to keep my HDMI cable hooked to the TV the way it is now and run a second set of cables from the Directv box (component & red-black RCA) to the HTPC? IF this is the way to do this it looks like I am now stuck being able to watch a second program wile recording.

Please let me know if I am on the right path or way off. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you are on the right path, do you have DVI or second HDMI on the TV?

Yes it does have 2 HDMI inputs. I do not have HDMI on my PC. I was thinking of getting a video card with HDMI but will I gain over using component seen that it is not HDTV?

If your video card has DVI use a DVI to HDMI adpater .
