I just upgraded to an XPS 420 with two DCTs. It's working GREAT so now's
the time to think about getting rid of my old HTPC. Here's the parts list.
CPU. AMD X2 4800+ Brisbane AM2
MOTHERBOARD. ABIT AN-M2HD AM2 w/NVIDIA GeForce 7050PV HDMI uATX
RAM. Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (Dual Channel)
HARD DRIVE. Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 7200rpm SATAII
DVD BURNER. LITE-ON 20X DVD±R Burner with 12X DVD-RAM write and LightScribe
VIDEO CARD. HIS Hightech H385QX512NP Radeon HD 3850 512MB w/HDCP
CASE. Antec Veris Fusion Black 430 Micro ATX Media Center w/ IR
O/S. Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (a real copy.. i'll give you the disc)
REMOTE. Vista Media Center Remote
KEYBOARD. Logitech S510 Wireless Mouse and Keyboard with Media Controls
Just throw some tuner cards in it and plug it in. It's got plenty of
connectors. 2xDVI plus an adapter for DVI-HDMI and DVI-VGA. As far as
audio, it is 7.1 capable as well as having an optical digital out and
if you want to use the HDMI connector, audio is included. The all of
the connectors on the front work. The display works perfectly but there
is a scratch on the inside of the plastic cover. You can only see it when
the screen is off.
There are two open PCI slots for tuners. Plenty of USB and firewire ports.
You can also play the latest games on this system with the beefy video card.
It's quiet and very suitable for the living room. You can get a $130 Blu-Ray
drive and throw it in there if you want. I got tons of compliments from my
friends on how it looks and how well it works.
If you are interested, I am in the San Francisco Bay Area. I can answer your
questions and make sure it'll do what you want it to do.
