I can't get sky tv on my vista mce machine.

Hi all, I live in France but am English, and here in Toulouse it is possible to recieve sky television, which I currently do. I wanted to start using my media centre pc to record tv and so i bought this, http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/data_hvr1100.html and when I put this in, wen't to set up tv using these instructions. http://www.hdtvtunerinfo.com/mceremoteinstall.html But mce doesn't come up with an option to use manual setup, is there someting I am doing wrong or is it just my setup?
Sorry if this sounds a bit stupid but it is really starting to annoy me now so....
    Many thanks in advance.

From looking at the Hauppauge site you gave that card is combo DVB-T (Freeview)/analogue. However the analogue side, which you need to use to hook up to your Sky box, relies on software converting the signal to MPEG2. Media Centre only works with cards that do that conversion in hardware on the card itself. Something like the Hauppauge PVR150 does the job.

The card should work fine on the DVB-T side though. I assume France has digital broadcasting so you could pick up the local channels.

Do you know if I could get it working with any other software?
    Like sage tv?

Sorry, not familiar with any other software. Isn't there anything available directly from Hauppauge?

No, actually I have the HVR-1100 in one of my machines and I know for a fact that it IS actually capable of playing analog broadcasts in Vista media center.

There is a software on the CD of your card called Hauppauge SoftMCE or something like that - you simply need to install that driver and then you can watch analog channels on media center. You can also find that program on Hauppauge's website.

Re: I can't get sky tv on my vista mce machine.

    U need:
    1. an active Sky viewing card
    2. a connection to a sky digital dish
    3. a FloppyDTV-S2 Tuner Card
    4. a T-Rex 4.1 CAM with Predator 3.6 firmware
    5. Patience and determination getting the EPG data usable but its more a case of getting used to the horrible VMC user interface for these tasks and weird behavior, then settling for the missing guide data with certain channels. After a second reinstall, I avoided the EPG filter tools as they screwed things up even worse.

This is my current solution. Only has ability to watch/record one channel, this is due to sky encryption, to watch one, record other, you would need 2 x the Tuner card and 2 x the T-Rex CAM and 2 x the subscription/viewing card. Works for me though, im very happy with this setup.

you can buy both from several sources, the CAM i bought came with the Predator preloaded, so i didnt need to use the Duolabs CAS3+ Programmer i bought at same time. Use google to find them or pm me if your stuck.

    Hi Tiger,

you don't actually need to go the FloppyDTV route, you can capture the signal using an analogue capture card, but the picture/sound quality is no where near as good as using these bits of hardware - however the cost is a lot more for the floppydtv!

I used to use the 150MCE, however since moving to floppydtv, I've not looked back...

Also, the analog route with STB would work better in the TVPack software, as the channel info in the EPG is not available via any other means currently.

Hi Tony, thx for the reply m8, but when i invested in a native 1080p screen i didnt want analogue capture card res as it looks like a BBC model B resolution on a huge plasma. I also have a 7.1 THX system so crappy pic n crappy sound is a no go.

i found early on that sky tv n scart was a no go unless u have a little telly the size of a small satsuma.

if ur gonna invest in a media center to do it, then thru trial and error of many different ways and missed expections, then IMO this is the best way for UK Sky TV Subs for now...

regarding the EPG and TVPack 2008.. i reverted immediately to a backup and removed it. it didnt show any listings for any shows that were not current T + 1 hour. it trashed some of the other nice features also but most worst of all... despite having some gaps in EPG listsings using standard VMC b4, it was worse. I did try XML TV experiments also but too many are in their infancy. However, i will try these again in a couple of months time as one or two seemed very good, but trashed something else :S I'll wait til MS sort out the US release of TVpack and hopefully with h.264 support which they sneaked out with the final release..

For now... I can live without listings for babestation and JML etc and who the hell needs BBC HD..? i mean I pay for it already through my license and i cant even see it? criminal, but BBC is so downgraded to an anti-western, anti-european, anti-american propaganda station that who cares now anyway? apart from apologists and terrorists.. who really cares anyway?.. really you should be ashamed your british... i hope the ministry of propaganda crashes and burns into commercial advertising reality and the unseen, unelected, anti-western news editors and spineless controller gets extracated to guantanamo for political questioning.. and we should all be sorry for what we did or many generations of our ancestors did sumtime or another..

... back on topic here... but what was cool about TV Pack 2008 was it sorted out the sound for all other MTV channels which had no sound before and other channels that multi channel audio but was mute due to mce issue. TBH, i can wait for this fix to be proper as the pain is worth more than the gain for now. lets wait for the official endorsed update unless it solves more problems than inroduces for u ;-)

Re: I can't get sky tv on my vista mce machine.

There are some other UK users who have posted on other threads a workaround to get the guide working in TV Pack with Sky and FloppyDTV.

The hack involves using an anologue capture card to get the correct guide data than mapping that to your floppydtv channels. You can than remove the analogue card. Messy.....I know, but as you said 'trial and error of many different ways'.
