disconnect and reconnect the ir emitters. sometimes they feel in but aren't. it takes the usb reciever plus an emitter connected for that error to not appear.

I am also getting this error and can't resolve it. I have one IR emitter connected to my IR receiver (the thing I point my remote at). I have an NTL set-top box -what do I need to do to get this working? Do I need to tape the IR emitter to the front of the NTL box?

    1. You need to give the emitter a good shove when you insert it into the IR receiver - you should feel a 'double-click' if the thing is properly inserted.

    2. In most cases you cannot attach the emitter direct to an NTL or Telewest cable box, as these boxes use non-standard (Irda) infra-red signalling. The solution is to buy a redremote cable and attach this t oyour cable box, and put the emitter on top of it. See www.redremote.co.uk for further details.

    Thanks,

If the emitter is correctly connected and in working order but my NTL STB cannot understand it will I get the 'IR Hardware Not Connected' error or just some other error telling me it cannot communicate with the STB (i.e. it is connected but just not able to communicate)?

If it gets rid of the error message and it still doesnt work then at least I'll know its a compatiblilty issue and not a hardware issue with the emitter and so I'll buy the red remote device.

RE: "IR Hardware not detected" PLEASE HELP ME, WHY DOES IT SAY THIS, I HAVE EVERTHING SET UP

Just got a chance to check out the IR emitter and the connection into port 1 on the IR receiver unit (i.e. the device I am plugging the emitter into) seems a little loose compared to the connection in port 2. I tried setting up with the emitter connected to port 2 but I get the same error.

In the case where all parts are working if an emitter is connected to port 2 while port 1 is empty will it be picked up?

I'm just trying to ascertain if the emitter/connection is faulty and I need to send it back, thanks

Re: RE: "IR Hardware not detected" PLEASE HELP ME, WHY DOES IT SAY THIS, I HAVE EVERTHING SET UP

I.ve been wrestling with thie same  IR Hardware not detected thing with no sucess. i just now came across a site discussing this problem and one suggestion caught my interest and after trying it i think it;s the solution.  it's pretty simple as follows :

           Media Center Settings
Select >  I WILL MANUALLY CONFIGURE MY TV SIGNAL
Select >  ANTENNA   ( i dont care what you are plugged into)
Select >  Analog-Only Antenna (same as above)
Select >  Return To TV Settings - unless you really want guide listings
    Select >  Finish

you have now by-passed the IR Control Device - you have to use a cable input and not an S-Video or
       Composit input..

P.S. i have MCE 2005 Win XP with a satellite receiver and i didn't see step 3 (analog only) but it worked fine
the only hitch was i wound up set to channel 2 and had to horse around to get it changed to Channel 3
