Guys,
Wasn't sure if this is the right place for this, apologies if not.
I have also posted this on AVFORUMS, but no replies sadly; thought I might try here...
I have (about a month now) bought a Series 6 Samsung LE40656A and am very happy with it. However I have a really annoying sound issue.
History...
This was initially connected to a Media Centre running MCE 2005 XP on an Gigabyte M8 board with an XP3000+ 1GB RAM and a Geforce 6200 GT; Life was good.
However to run HD content I quickly discovered that I needed to upgrade the mediacentre so I replaced the lot with the following; Gigabyte GA-G31m-SL2, Intel 3Ghz Dual Core, 2GB RAM, Geforce 8500; running Vista MCE Sp1.
Problem...
Here is where my problems began. The initial Media Centre was connected with a DVI to HDMI cable and on board sound connected seperately to the dedicated HDMI2 phono inputs on the television (This, as the manual states is the correct connection as normally the television expects sound via HDMI and HDMI2 has seperate sound inputs.)
The new media centre however is connected in exactly the same way (Sound via a 3.5mm jack to phono). The television absolutely refuses to acknowledge any sound what so ever.
I know sound is coming out as I can connect up external speakers and sound is good. I've also tried a number of other sound inputs in the HDMI2 input such as iPod, Xbox360 and stereo etc. Nothing will convince the television that there is sound on that input.
I have a theory that the graphics card is somehow sending a signal down the DVI to HDMI cable that I am using which is convincing the television that there is sound coming down the HDMI cable; (Based on the assumption that HDMI2 autosenses sound via phono or HDMI). I cannot swap in the old Media Centre Graphics card (Geforce 6200 GT) as this is a PCI-e board not AGP like the old one.
Ultimately I'd love to swap back in the old media centre; but for a variety of reasons this is no longer an option.
I wondered if anyone has any thoughts on how DVI to HDMI works with regard to sound and any options I can try to resolve this issue. Ultimately I am going to invest in a Speaker system; but there maybe times when sound via the television is sufficient and it would nice to resolve this annoying issue.
Thanks in Advance,
Si.
