I've searched the forums and I didn't find any answer to my question which is pretty simple. Is there any way to make work a Vista remote control under XP MCE? Because I'm on XP and I can't find any remote for XP MCE in Canada.

Funny but that's not what I asked. I got a Vista one for 30$ shipped, while this one is 38$ + shipping. That's why I asked if there was some kind of tweak to make it work on XP MCE 2005.

What remote do you have? if its the same as the one in the link above it should work fine.

Maybe you can use Intelliremote to remap the buttons, but that's $30usd :D. That $38+shipping is looking pretty good about now.

I think I'll upgrade to Vista anyway because they delivered one with my laptop. MCE comes with Vista Ultimate right?

Here's an XP remote from the same site... You'll probably need to upgrade your hardware anyway to move to Vista.

A XP MCE 2005 remote will work with Vista Media Center and Vista Media Center remote will work with XP MCE 2005.

not true at all.

I have several Vista Computers and one running MCE2005.

the MS Remote for MCE2005 works fine on vista, however it is missing some of the buttons.

The Vista remote i purchased from Newegg which comes with it's own IR Receiver only works in a certain combination.

If i use the MCE receiver and the Vista remote, on Vista, most everything works.
If I use the Vista Receiver and the MCE remote, on Vista, most everything works.
If I use the MCE Receiver and the MCE remote, On Vista, everything works.
If Iuse the Vista receiver on the MCE2005 computer, it will not even recognize the receiver as a USB device.

This is very common.
So it's not the remote that is the problem, but rather the IR Receiver.
