    High Definition Performance

I've got a 60" 4:3 Mitsubishi HDTV.  It will display a 1080i signal but not a 720p.  The problem I have is when I switch the resolution to 1920x1080 there is a very noticable performance hit.  I'm running a Radeon 9500 Pro.  If I upgrade to an nVidia 6800 would it correct the problem or is it something that can be fixed without a $200 upgrade.  I want to get an OTA HDTV tuner but I realize there isn't much point if the signal is going to the TV at 480P.  Also, I'm connected through RGBHV.

You should be able to use a Nvidia 6600 which is well under $200 at places like NewEgg. It should work as well as the 6800. You also will want to get the PureVideo Decoder. Don't get the 6200 however because it only goes up to 720p.

    RE: High Definition Performance

We have a Mits WS-55813 and "Her HTPC" now drives it with a fanless Gigabyte 6600 @ 1080i using DVI.  Great card and the nVidia drivers make it a snap to set up a RPTV as a display device.  Fantastic picture on our set...

    Re: RE: High Definition Performance

I have Nvidia 7600GT with latest drivers.  2 gigs of ram and dual core CPU.  I connect my Sony Bravia 1080p via DVI.  All SD video is very good, but Blu-Ray playback is jerky with lots of framedrops.  I have LG multi-blu combo drive using PowerDVD.  CPU load never goes beyond 20% while playing video, including Blu-Ray.

    Any ideas?

why revive a 3 year old thread for this?
Your best bet would be to start a new one.

    Re: RE: High Definition Performance

What refresh rate is your screen set at?  If you're running Blu-Ray (24fps) at either 50 or 60Hz you're going to get noticable jerkyness.

I think most bravia's will run at 24hz, but without your model number I can't be sure.

Yeah, don't bump old threads. Not to mention this forum is for MCE and not PowerDVD. You'll probably need a newer video card. I have a 7600gs and it offloads most of the load to the CPU.
