Re: New vmcNetFlix Add-In for Vista Media Center
eluttmann1:
And then in the narative; the Movie Time are all "0".
Did something get messed up?
Okay, I did a quick look and it seems that the JSON movie data provided by NetFlix is now only providing movie lenth for WatchNow movies. In the next release, I'll try to replace "0" length with "unknown" length - long term I'll see if there is a way to obtain the length elsewhere.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.9 Release
I have been waiting on a couple releases before I tried again. I installed the latest 1.0.9 version, and I get to the point where you hit watch now on the main PC (not extender testing yet)... but I get an error message that tells me that there was....
Unable to play movie Unknown Player Error! Would you like to reinitialize the movie player and play the movie again?
If I click yes, it just loops through and gives me the same error.

First thing to check on the main PC is that you can manually play WatchNow movie through NetFlix via IE7. There was an update to the NetFlix movie player recently and doing it manually prompts you though it.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.9 Release
I have not been succesful in setting the application up yet to work ion the 360. I have the one disk at a time membership and have set the extender to clone. I either get License unavailable, or can not play video. I just installed the new version (1.0.9) and have tried netflix watch now throught ie7 and vmc on the pc. Both work.
I tried to look through the posts, but is this working on the 360? My pc is Vista Ultimate with SP1.
Also, it would be great to be able to use the messenger pad with the 360 controller. :)
Thanks for the help and the great app. I am confident it will work once I figure out what I am doing wrong.

Actually, last night when I was using MyNetflix it prompted me to update my license. So yes, I can watch via IE7 (just checked now), and I can through the MyNetflix plugin.

I do have it working on a 360, and other have had sucess as well...
Try the following:
1) From the extender(360), go to Settings->Movie Player and select the Reset Extender Setup button
2) Resetart the vmcNetflix app on the extender and proceed with cloning when you get the setup dialogs. When done, you should enter thethe vmcNetFlix app's main menu.
3) Attempt to play a movie on the extender, if it doesn't work you should get a dialog about re-initialize the player. Enter Yes, then wait - this can take a bit. you should get a dialog about the intialization being complete and then it will automatically play the video again. If it fails, then send the following logs to vmcNetflix@gmail.com
C:\Users\Mcx1\AppData\Local\Temp\vmcExtenderSetup.log
C:\Users\Mcx1\AppData\Local\Temp\AxPlayer\AxPlayer.log
Thanks,

I sent the AxPlayer.log... but I couldn't find a vmcExtenderSetup.log In looking at it... it looks like it has captured my Watch Now attempt through IE7... not through vmcNetflix plugin.

I just replied ... it seems that vmcExtenderSetup is not getting executed - I'm wondering if some app (like anti-virus or firwall) is blocking access?

There is also a service that runs in the background (vmcNetFlix Download Manager) - you might want to make sure it is running as well. It uses port 8081 as a localproxy - if it's not working you would get an error as well when attempting to play.

Re: New vmcNetFlix Add-In for Vista Media Center
This has got to be the coolest new I've used in a long, long time. It took me about 10 minutes and I'm streaming away to my 360! I don't think I'll be getting too much sleep tonight!
Thanks!

I had to manually start the vmcextendersetup.exe to get the vmcextendersetup.log file. I sent it and the axplayer.log file via email. Since I started it manually with my media center session minimized, I didn't see a video, but I heard the opening scene from 2001: A Space Oddysey. I checked the temp directory and I now have the vmcextendersetup.log file. I un-minimized my media center session and attempted a movie stream since I saw that the service was started and the vmcNetFlix application running. But still got the player error. I wonder if I have to restart my Media Center session to get it working correctly now? I can't at the moment... the wife wants to watch a few things before she lets me "play" with it anymore. :)

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.9 Release
eluttmann1: HerrShaft:After using the newer install, I was able to start the vmcNetflix. However, I'm still having problems with initializing the extender. On my main account, when I logged into vmcNetflix, I did not see any option to initilize the Extender. I tried changing the setting for "Extender Setup Timeout", but that didn't seem to effect anything. I did see that option when I started the vmcNetflix from the extender, but answering yes didn't result in anything. It was also unable to play the videos on the extender, but only show the main UI. Is there some way to force-invoke the extender setup on the PC?
Note: I have tried rebooting the PC and restarting MCE multiple times, but I never saw the vmcExtenderSetup.exe in the process list except when I manually started it.
On the VMC account, delete the following file and run the vmcNetFlix app again. You should then see a message indicating extenders can now be setup. Also, before doing this, make sure you can view WatchNow movies from IE7 on the VMC PC.
C:\ProgramData\vmcNetFlix_Data\vmcNetFlix_AppStore.dat
Then go to Settings->Movie Player->Initialize Movie Player button, wait for the dialog stating that the re-initialization completed. Then play a movie to make sure it is working on the VMC PC.
After that, on the Extender run the vmcNetFlix app and go to Settings->Movie Player->Reset Extender button. Then restart the vmcNetFlix app on the extender and you should get the extender setup messages again. I'm assuming you want to "clone" the license, so select that option. When you attempt to play a movie, if it fails you should get a popup asking if you want to re-initialize and attempt to play again. Select this and see if it works for you - during the re-initialize you will see the "busy orb", don't do anything (it might take a while) then you should get a dialog saying the re-init finished and it will automatically attempt to play the movie for you again. If this doesn't work, increment the delay one more time and try again.

Removing the license I've accidentally acquired while trying to setup from the MCX account solved my problem. Thanks for your help Eric

What I'm unclear of is why you can't get vmcExtenderSetup to run when launched from Media Center. Question: when you did attempt to initialize the movie player from the vmcNetFlix app, did it take a while and then notify you that it completed?
