Re: Media Center support for Canadian customers

Heh, you are so right.   I personally know 10 people with MCE boxes (more than that, but only 10 that actively use it for TV)

NONE of them have every even logged in to GreenButton, even after telling them about it.
2 of them are technically inclined (SA's)

Most of them simply re-install if MCE gets weird on them.

Only 4 of them have inquired to me why MCE doesn't record a lot of the time.   And that is after they reinstalled it a many times already trying to fix it.

Only a very tiny percentage of the world will look at, or post in forums.   Enthusiasts you call us :-)

I think it's a pretty safe bet that for users with this problem in Canada, the ratio is at least 1 to 1000 , who read this thread, and those who do not come to GreenButton at all.

One of the major problems of a system like MCE is that it can not work right for SO MANY REASONS, drivers, updates, config, installing wrong codec. The list goes on and on.

What you have now  is many thousands of people with flakey MCE boxes who will assume they did something to break it again and have no idea how to fix it again (sadly they don't know it's not fixable at all this time).

I've done something new. I might have news next week. Cross your fingers.

It's safe to uncross our fingers now?

Actually, yes. We will produce a fix. I don't have the details yet on when it will be available (it will be well before our next product release though). I was kind of hoping to have more info for you before I posted something new.

So, just to set expectations, we're still Microsoft and we still are slower than end-users want us to be. I'm just saying, it won't likely be next week. But it will happen, and when I have a date I will share it.

Excellent!! and thank you for your hard work getting this agreed on.

So now our posts in this thread can be much more positive...  with us asking when it will be available every week or two...

    OMG!  OMG!  OMG!

They're going to actually FIX this?!  Like... SOLVE the DRM crisis?

I can't WAIT to see what happens.

PS. Sarcastic tone NOT intended, I really am genuinely curious about what's going to happen.

:-)    Yay  :-)   That is truly good news.

XP/MCE fix as well as a Vista fix I assume?

(I invested in Linksys extenders, as far as I know, they still don't work at all with Vista)

I'm unsure, actually, about XP vs. Vista. Are you guys more on Vista or more on XP? (Not that that will drive the decision, but I'm curious.)

XP MCE x 3 for me (only two with tuners in them)  + 2 V1 extenders

All my friends are on XP MCE as well.

For us, Vista is more important.

We have two Vista systems and four MCE2005 systems (actually 5 MCE 2005 at the moment, but one needs a new home).  I'll also be adding a new high end Vista 64 bit system (8+ GB RAM, another Quad processor, etc.) soon for a new project (it will run Media Center also, but no permanent tuner).

The main HTPC, doing the recording, is running Vista; but all of them are used to watch TV (~85% of the watching is actually done on the main HTPC).

Yeah I'm on XP MCE 2005 actually.  From what I've read, MOST people out there are going to be XP MCE.  I'm personally VERY gun shy about Vista.
