hd-pvr vs avi cablecard STB (DRM and Picture Quality Question)

Hi, I am fairly new at this right now but have begun reading the forums. I think everybody that has offered information on related subjects.  I think that I have a fairly good understianding of the basic differences between the 2 devices ( hd-pvr vs avi cablecard STB). My question lies in DRM. I know that I will be able to record any high def content (That I subscribe to) with the HD_PVR provided that my STB offers component video out,  the only real caveat being it can not be integrated inot VMC live tv ect (at  this time). But if I purchase a full blown VMC enabled pc with cable card tuner will I be able to record all HD content that I have paid for (subscirbed)? Does any one out there have a definitive answer on this? My suspicion would be that the cable company would enable "no record" flag for all premium content. Secondly is the recording quality of the hd-pvr noticable (degraded) compared to HD STB to HDTV connection?
