You either have to wait for advent to add this feature to his MC Menu Mender, or edit the ehres.dll - read through this:

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

Video Browser works great, but I can't seem to get the tvdb scrapper application to recognize and find metadata for mkv files. I know this because when the files were in their original mkv extension, the scrapper application would just skip over them. However, if I renamed them to the avi extension, it would find the metadata properly. Has anyone else been experiencing this problem? And currently is there a solution? Thanks

EDIT: Yes, I am using the latest version with the updates API

        if filename =~ /\.(avi|mpg|mpeg|mp4|divx|mkv)$/

            puts filename

            episode = get_details(Pathname.new(filename), refresh)

            if episode
                puts "found: #{episode.episode_number} - #{episode.name} - #{episode.series.name}"
                begin
                  episode.fix_name! if fixnames
                rescue
            puts "Error: " + $!
          end
            else
puts "no data found for #{filename}"
            end

            puts
        end

I found this bit of code in the rb file. It seem to suggest that the scrapper app is indeed compatible with mkv files, but as I've said, I just can't get it to work.

    Hi Sambo,

this is a great enhancement to media center.

ive now got the latest beta installed.

The look and feel is very nice, works very quickly on my rig.

there are just a few things that id like to mention that could improve it.

    1. Support for extenders. Whilst i can launch it from the Pictures & Videos strip, it starts but is empty.

    2. An option to generate thumbs for the avi files (same as generated by windows/wmp11/vmc)

    3. I seem to have an issue where in certain folders where multiple avi's are located, when i select that folder it just plays one of them without showing me the contents of the folder or giving me a choice.

If you were able to address those 3 points i can wave goodbye to the 'Videos' in VMC for good.

Really nice app and thanks for sharing :)

I use this app with my extenders and it works fine.  In my case, I use shortcuts to view and navigate video folders.  For my extenders, I place the shortcut in the Video folder located within the USER folders for the extender (e.g. MCX1...).  I alos think the extender can not use mapped drives, so my shortcuts use UNC such as //servername/serverfolder/moviefolder.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I am not all that familiar with extenders.  Does the extended GUI look exactly like it would on a VMC HTPC?  I have been looking for a good replacement for my HTPC, but I can never find one with a decent GUI.  If I could use Sam's Player, it would be great.

Also, could you let me know what extender you use?  I would need one that supports Video_TS movie rips, as well as Blu-Ray mkv's, with full audio support (Blu-Ray ripped with 7 channel Flac is fine as well).

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

All my video's are DVR-MS or MP4 and they work on extenders. DVR-MS seems to work best.

I didn't really think so, thanks.  It amazes me how many products people buy that are completely crippled.

I would love to get rid of my HTPC, but there is simply nothing else out there that provides both a great GUI and the ability to play back any type of media I want.

Hi all, first I want to say thanks for this outstanding Plugin! Can someone please tell me why this Plugin doesn’t allow me to Fast Forward nor Rewind avi files? I even try Media Control Plugin, but I’m still not able to Fast Forward and Rewind avi files. Am I doing something wrong? I’m running Vista SP1 with TV Pack. Any help is certainly appreciated.

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

It may have something to do with TV Pack.  I'm not running it and have always been able to FF/RW all AVI, MP4, MKV, etc.

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

Do you have to install Media Control in order to Fast Forward and Rewind or are you able to do so without this Plugin? Thanks in advance.

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

I do have MediaControl installed, but I have FF/RW functionality all disabled.  I use it only for the automatic bookmarking.

Regardless, I am able to FF/RW on Media Center systems that do not have it installed also.

interesting, i will be giving mediacontrol a go myself tonight. for me i cannot forward and rewind when viewing avi, mkv, mp4 format files, i can only skip in chunks of time using the "skip" and "replay" buttons on the remote.

oh yeah i haven't seen this mentioned so thought i would advertise the fact that sam now has a uservoice page so you can vote for and request features for video browser:-

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

    Oops...I think that's what I meant.  I can't actually FF/RW everything - I use the skip function.

I do have some AVI files that will FF/RW, but the majority will not.  Sorry for the confusion.  I've not used FF/RW for so long that the skip function sort of took its place.

    Re: New Video Browser Plugin

Well, it must be TV Pack because I don't think I'm able to skip. I can remember pressing skip, but nothing happened. Is anyone using TV Pack experiencing the same problem? Thank you all for responding.

Most likely it is not TV Pack.

At least in my configuration "skip" works, as it has always worked (both 64 and 32 bit, with TV Pack).

FF/RW has never worked for H.264 in VMC, nor in MCE (it's a MS thing, and I personally think it's retarded that they refuse to support the format.)

Some are very happy with MediaControl, but unfortunately, I have never been able to get it to work reliably in my system.

P.S. Since the FF/RW doesn't really have much to do with VB specifically, but is a general VMC shortcoming, I'd suggest that discussion of it moves to a more appropriate forum, like Ask MS or Vista™ Media Center General. Just so we don't clutter this thread needlessly:-)
