Re: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned)

Really, I never liked the program that much. I still did the "hack" the regedit way until I finally used TV Pack. What was the last and best version of the tuner "extension" program? Just out of curiosity, does it include the newer thought of how to properly set the record and watch order as well as the preferred status?

Re: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned)

I'm having trouble getting my additional 2 CableCard tuners working in VMC using either of the methods in the original post.  The tuners all work fine from Digital Signal Diagnostics, but I get a "Tuner Not Available" message the moment I try to tune to the 3rd tuner (recording on the first 2).

Does the registry hack still work or was it invalidated by a Windows Update?  Do we have to use the TVPack now?

Right click here save as to your desktop.

    Run the app

    Push the Get Tuners button
Name all the tuners that are red saving after each is named.
Go back and click the Enabled for MCE check box after.
Restart the computer or stop and restart all MCE services.

Ignore configure now it does nothing.

If this does not work download teamviewer from http://teamviewer.com/index.aspx
Install and send me an email, I will help get it working for you.

    Team viewer kicks ass.

    Scuffs,

Have you been playing with the TV pack on vista ? People are reporting this mod does not work with the TV pack. Any ideas ?

Hey scuffs, I just wanted to thank you for the link to that app.  I followed a VERY long reg-hack method (different thread), and while I could record 2 channels and watch another, I got errors when trying to record 3 channels at once.  Running the app with your instructions cleared it right up- thanks!

Your welcome, I plan on making a graphical how to later

I will run it on a tv pack machine soon just to test.

Re: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned) need help

    Hi

I am rebuilding my mce 2005 m/c as it had become unusable after SP3 - tuners would not tune, restricted content error, aggrergate errors etc. I have load on xp mce operating system and now want some direction as to next steps.

    - Should I download all updates first before setting up MCE ?

    - I want to add a tuner - I have a Hauppauge PVR 500 Dual analogue tuner and a Hauppauge HVR 1300 analogue and digital tuner now in the pc, but have not yet enabled them. What is best approach to get all three tuners working correctly in MCE.

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

    I am based in Ireland.

    Thanks

    Sean

Re: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned) need help

Install the OS then update rollup 2 then SP3 then update everything.  Make sure MCE is fully updated.  Make sure all hardware is installed then run setup.

Verify that you can record, and watch live tv.

After its done run Ramon's program, click on the red tuner and name it then save.

Click on something else then click back and click then enabled for MCE checkbox.

Click on something else then click back

I really need to make a graphical how to.  I will get around too it soon.

edit: update rollup 2 needed to come first.  I am doing more research on this now thanks to the next post.

Re: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned) need help

    woooooo.

I could be wrong, but I think it is very important to NOT put SP3 on right away. Many of the Media Center updates will not install properly if you put SP3 on. There is a thread about it all somewhere here, but I can't find it right off hand. Essentially it was to install MCE2005 using your 2-disk round-robin install. Tell it NOT to do automatic updates yet. THen install .NET 1.1 and .NET1.1 SP1, and one of the .NET critcal updates. Get the two Media Center updates, ROllup 2 and the last cumulative update for media center. Then after you have gotten those two updates you can let it do auto updates, I think. In my opinion, I would let it do it in this order, or go find a better listing. I know the one time I saw a post about this there was a semi-official MS answer that detailed the steps very well.

Re: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned) need help

I forgot to put the Rollup 2 in there, I have added it now.

I reinstalled my dads MCE machine a month ago and I didnt have any problems with .net install problems but better safe than sorry.

Re: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned) need help

I set up three ATI DCT's and all of them work when MCE is set to work as single or dual tuners but I cannot watch separate channels on all three tuners (using the PC and two Xbox 360 extenders) when all three are enabled (via reg hack)

I used a registry hack and even ran scuffs utility but to no avail. On my third extender device (or the pc), I will get a "Tuner not available" message.

    Anyone have any tips?

Re: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned) need help

Just to be clear it isnt mine.  The credits are in the program.

After you set it up try rebooting a few times.  I have no idea why but a recent change has caused it to not work even after the first reboot.

If I can, I will do that how too tonight.  I may even be able to show the multiple reboots.

Re: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned) need help

rebooted twice, still no dice. I'll try rebooting a couple more times tomorrow, but i'm not optimistic. Looks like I may have to reinstall vista and then upgrade to the TV pack like bryanb did (he says he did this in another thread)
