Re: Microsoft Official: Windows Media Center TV Pack

Right now, we don't know if TV Pack 2008 will be required or not. The latest post from MS on this is http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/permalink/265339/286746/ShowThread.aspx#286746

    that I've found.

One thing to consider is that the recording format is changed with TV Pack from dvr-ms and as such you'll need something to edit/record the new format.

He likely means version wise and the basic core of the OS:
    Windows 95 was version 4.0, 98 was version 4.1, ME was 4.9
    2000 was 5.0, XP was version 5.1, 2003 Server was 5.2
Vista was 6.0, and the Windows 7 preview was 6.1 as opposed to 7.0

i.e. most drivers worked between 95, 98 and ME, but had to be rewritten for 2000, XP and 2003, and then rewritten again for Vista

Nope, Most Drivers written for XP or even 2000 (limited with 2000)  will work with Windows Vista, I can give you many devices that only had XP drivers and with those drivers works perfect under Vista (Modems, digital cameras, scanners, printers) but, not in every case.

I am getting an error message: "CLCapSvc Module stopped working and closed". Anyone has any idea how to deal with it? The Catalyst Media Center is reporting that it cannot find any Tuner. Someone please help me to resolve this matter!

    Chris - Moderator:
I'll let you in on something, a lot of hacks posted in this website can be considered illegal if you base it off the one legal document we have, the EULA.  Hacked dll (ex. RDP hack)?  That's "illegal" based on the EULA.

Now, I said in one of this threads that if somewhere were to post a link to a cracked Vista ISO or Photoshop that I would delete it.  Given this, you can draw your own conclusion about how I really feel about the TV Pack being "illegal."  I haven't opened the foum up to warez, and as others have said the definition of what the TV Pack is at this point is really just semantics.

Is there anything in the eula for the tv pack that prevents a non-oem to install it on their PC?  I can't find anything that says me installing it is a no-no.  And as Chris wrote above regarding "hacks", this isn't a "hack"--rather an actual kb standalone update; so, I don't see a problem there either.?

After seeing the QAM work, I'm considering jumping back from Sage; but, not at the cost of a new PC and not if I can't do it legally.

Testing it for a week is one thing.  Running it long-term on my home pc "unofficially" or "illegally" is something else!

    HELP!

    thanks

Re: Microsoft Official: Windows Media Center TV Pack

I have been using TV pack on my home built Media center PC for the past couple of months but i've finally decided to remove it (read: restore to a image taken just before i installed it on a freshly built system).

Apart from the odd bug, and the fact that series would stop recording after about 3-4 episodes, i actually thought it was a good pack to have. I use a DVB-T and watch UK freeview. I installed the update recently and that is when things started to go wrong, although i'm not sure whether it was the update that did this.

I lost a listing for ITV Yorkshire, it would not find any guide listings for this channel, so i decided to remove all my channels and search for new ones (as i'd not done this for a while and thought it might find any new ones). After finding all the channels agains and fixing the Yorkshire ITV issue, i carried on using it happily until a series didn't record. I went to check the series listings and it reffered to a "deleted Channel 5" and then the date that i deleted all the channels and re-added them. So i thought, ok i'll remove all my series records and start again, bit of a pain, but it's of my own doing.

Did this, and when the next program was scheduled to record, i checked and it wasn't recording, but when i went to live TV and checked the channel, it said "This program is recording" in the mini guide. I checked the series record and it indicated the right channel, it wasn't pointing at a deleted channel. I then just tried pressing record on a random program, it showed it was recording, but when i went to "recorded TV" there was no recording, and when i went to my recorded TV folder on the hard disk, there was no file.

I've not found anyway to fix this, so i'm going to go back to a Pre-TV pack VMC, as the TVPack, although nice, didn't offer anything i couldn't live without.

Re: Microsoft Official: Windows Media Center TV Pack

There was a bug related to rebuilding the TV pack for which Tim Hayton was providing a fix to anyone who sent him the log. In case you want to give it a try before you go back pls see this post:
