Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

I ran all my tests and it all works

So here is my big question, and I feel bad asking it.

Did you enable Remote Desktop by right clicking on my computer going to properties then clicking remote settings on the left side, and verify that it is enabled?

Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

    One more thing to check:

I have observed that after installing some hotfixes the firewall settings somehow get messed up and couple of times I have seen that the Remote Desktop was not allowed through firewall. So I would suggest checking that in addition to Remote Desktop settings as suggested before.

Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

appreciate the responses.... but definitely never had touched the remote desktop settings after it was working... so unless a hot fix somehow unchecked it.  I did double check the windows firewall and even manually removed and added the RDP port 3389 (which is set in the registry) ..

and coincidentally my router had died around the same time (purely coincidental, coulda been a day or 2 after the rdp stopped working i dont know).  So i was also setting up a new router, but it wasnt like i had messed up the settings b/c (see next paragraph)

anyway i ended up upgrading to ultimate through some student deal for $65 (yeah yeah, i know) and have had no problems using the same router settings I had on the new router ...

on the plus side, i at least gey my copy/paste working 100% and my sound over RDP working...

good luck all, Microsoft won this battle with me :(

Don't mean to just "bump" this thread, but I need people to report back on this one too. I'm holding off installing my latest Vista updates, 890380, 938464 and 954154, until I get more info. This could be an unfortunate seriousness if it is true.

@ionizer: did you try and re-install the patch again?

    tskx.

So, with respect to this mini-thread in this thread, therefore, no one can corroborate that one of the recent hotfixes has disabled the RDP patch? I will go ahead and do my latest upgrades then.

    Thanksx.

Hi can someone post or link to the versions of termsrv.dll and steps necessary to get concurrent sessions for both XP x64 SP2 and Vista x64 SP1 that are currently working for you on these versions?  Thanks in advance.

Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

I just enabled this over the last weekend for the first time ever on all my Vista systems. The updates up to 10/06/08 have all been applied.

So this is working with the latest TERMSRV.DLL (size 438kb and NOT size 418kb file) for SP1.

On 1 system with Ultimate SP1 and HTPC and notebook with Home Premium.

Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

was this on x64 vista ult sp1?  if so, can you post the termsrv.dll and any additional steps,  bat or reg files you used?  i've tried numerous versions after doing a fresh vista x64 ult install and all updates possible as of today to no avail.  TermService service starts with the latest I've found, but no connecty :(

anyone have it for XP x64 SP2?

Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

Sorry - I did not document this but I only have 32 bit versions therefore cannot speak to x64 - I used what is currently out there -

    http://www.unet.fi/fransblog/2007/08/30/enable-remote-desktop-connection-on-vista-home-premium/

It took me a couple of trys but it did work.

Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

all right well i'll never know why but just for s&g's i tried one more time with the x64 .bat from this RDP_Vista_SP1.zip version and lo and behold it finally went through.  I ran Ultimate.bat as Admin from this same zip file 4 times before and every time it would get to the listening step and say "not listening" and I wouldn't be able to connect.  Last night the stars aligned I guess.  One thing is that if you're not being prompted for a yes/no by the .bat it will fail not listening.  Only difference the last time was that I re-downloaded rather than running the one from my NAS.  Maybe a permission thing, who knows?  Still would appreciate XP x64 SP2 version.

Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

One thing I have noticed in the past when installing this patch (not sure if anyone has mentioned this already or not) is that I always had to extract it to a local location on the computer (i.e. the Desktop) and run it from there, as opposed to running it directly from the zip file or from a network share. I don't know if this will help anybody, but just thought I would throw it out there. Thanks!

It works on a administrator account but not on a normal account..

What should I do to solve this problem?

Re: Vista Remote Desktop - possible to enable more than one user?

I have successfully used the hack on home premium x64.  But there is one thing that bugs me - some might consider it a feature, but not me.

Senario:  Host = Desktop  , Client = Laptop

When I (the one and only user) log in from the client to the host, the host computer stays logged in.  The RD connection starts another user session even though the user/pass are identical.  I would prefer it to log off the desktop user automatically (like the "normal" non-hacked RD).  Is there a way to make that happen?

    Thanks,

    HUGE

    start
    run
    mstsc /console

    or

    start
    run
    mstsc /admin

Depending on the version of remote desktop your running  XP SP2 is console, SP3 admin Vista its admin.  If your pre SP1 Im not sure about that, but try and you will get it.
